The woes for top-flight lightweight Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante (14-3-1) continue, suffering a hairline fracture of his right knee during a training session last week.
According to sources close to Cavalcante, the American Top Team member was forced to withdraw from his upcoming showdown with Daisuke Nakamura (20-10) at DREAM 11 in Yokohama, Japan, on Oct. 6.
The injury is the latest mishap in Cavalcante's prolonged health struggle that has derailed his climb through the lightweight hierarchy. Going winless (0-2-1) in his last three bouts with his last win coming in 2007, it looks like he will have to wait even longer to restore himself to the former glory of two-time K-1 Hero's titleholder.
No official announcement has been made by DREAM regarding the replacement for Daisuke Nakamura. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more on the developing story and the DREAM 11 fight card.
