Does this pic from St. Pierre’s Wednesday meeting with Mark Coleman give any GSP fans cause for concern going into his Saturday night fight against Thiago Alves?

Courtesy of Cage Potato:
whoa, that looks nasty!
Yeah it does. I really hope it doesn’t have too much of an affect on him tomorrow night.
That´s where he keeps his grease..
Ha I actually lol’d
I did too. lol
Wouldn’t that be nasty if GSP took ALves down and landed an EXPLODING BURSITIS SACK elbow right across his forehead!
here come the excuses already…but I’m going to put some more on alves!!!
I am not preparing any excuses, but I gotta say I don’t like seeing that elbow.
that’s from training w/ florian. He’s learned the secret to “HELLBOWS!!”
That looks nasty!
not sure what exactly is wrong, but it doesn’t look good!
Heaven help Alves if he catches him on the chin with that!
My concern is GSP wearing that Lacoste shirt with his red biker shorts. You think GSP ever walks into a restaurant just wearing his tights?
I hear that Alves weighed in at 175 lbs this morning. looks like the weight cut wont be a problem
anybody else catch the presser…Brock tried to leave early 3 TIMES!!! The first time Dana physically stopped him and told him to “SIT DOWN!”….love it!!!!!! Dana was shaking his head like “who does this guy think he is?”!!!!
Awesome. More proof of Borck’s tool-like antics.
Props to neeko for the “Borck” name.
Thanks for noticing my Typo ORJ ;o))
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoVrX_t-Tes
Here’s one vid of Brock trying to bail on the presser. Looks like Dana told him to sit his ass down lol.
hahahaah DANA>>>>>BROCK
WAR DANA!!!!!!!!!!! hahahah I think Brock has gotten too cocky for his own good!!!
Where did you see that?
gotta love it…”your going nowhere! Sit your ass in that $2 chair!!!”
looks like bursitis, he should have had that drained already and on meds.
Definitely bursitis. It’s a common overuse injury for wrestlers. It’s an enlarged bursa sack, which can cause pain, limited ROM, and consequently reduced hand speed.
tHmetking: THANKS! THats what I like to hear!
War Alves!
Definatly a bursitis. Hopefully not infected. Should have it drained before the fight and feel fine.
I must confess this development has me slightly concerned. I hope it hasn’t prevented him from training like he usually does. I reckon if it was really bad he’d have postponed the fight … but still…
No way is postponing a fight an option for this event. If this had been any other time, i think they would have pushed it to a different PPV. Kinda like Nog vs Mir…..couldnt lose that main event, was too important for the card. Otherwise Nog would not have fought.
Looks like there is some extra bone in there of something.
The elbow issue is likely a ruptured bursis sack. What is showing is fluid build up. This is not an umcommon thing, and should NOT affect GSP in the fight.
Good, thanks CL. I noticed this in some pics yesterday as well and thought GSP had some particularly pointy elbows.
Just more surface area to smash into Alves’ face while he’s helpless on his back, flopping liike a baby seal.
yeah CL, I’ve had my knees and elbows filled with fluid.. It definitely affects your movement
Lesnar became UFC heavyweigt champ wth a brain full of fluid – so Georges should be OK.
I don’t think this will affect his game unless it changes his hand speed because of inablity to bend the elbow. It looks a little larger than it should but I think he’s probably fine for the fight. I think where this will affect him is in his GnP game but I don’t really think that matters because he has many different options than just elbows on the ground. I sincerly hope this is not an injury because I hate it when fighters fight with injuries. They are always quick to say I was injured before this fight and thats why I lost… well then I hope you learned your lesson and don’t fight injured again jackass!
It’s a malignant tumor. It will explode mid-match, and GSP will win by squirting elbow cancer on Alves’ face.
like James Thomson’s ear…haha…but in all seriousness, I’m not impressed
Hey I am from MTL & a huge GSP fan but I have to say it. I heard it was vaseline that he was hiding under there. WAR GSP!!!
That was awesome.
Where you live in MTL neeko?
BURSITIS like SoCalStunNa said
Oh boy, now he will really be trying to hump Thiago. Alves TD defense better be on point.
Can you really sit there and imply that GSP “humps” his way to victories?
The implication was that that bad elbow will only for limited strikes on the feet and limited attack in the gaurd, therefore his plan for victory, humping.
My apologies. However I do disagree. I don’t think it will make much a difference.
That looks nasty,
Alves to win by Lump rubbing round 2.
It’s not a cause for cencern because GSP has it almost all the time. It looks a little bit worse this time but it’s not a big deal.
I Think it’s maids elbow and it’s very easy to treat
You’re thinking of maids knee. Which is an inflamed bursa of the knee from all the cleaning while on the knees. Nurse maid elbow is actually a dislocation of the radial head of the elbow typically an injury of young childen who get yanked by the hand by a nurse maid.
very good dr.g yes nurse maids elbow could wind up with a gun stock deforimty.
You may be right. Either way it’s not bone growth at most it’s probably just swelling. I doubt it’s going to affect him.
Maybe Ken-Flo has shared the secret of “hellbows” with GSP.
In training camp they have been sharpening the tip of the elbow like an old fashioned pencil sharpener.
He’ll be fine.
and I know it’s hard to tell…. but…
COLEMAN LOOKS GASSED!
LOL zino. Yeah he looks like he is ready to sit down.
lol I don’t get the cauliflower reference in the headline…but that definitely looks like it dislocated or something.
I guess we’ll have to see if he throws many right hands…
It all depends on how his elbows feel. If they are painful to the touch, he is in trouble.
I am curious to know exactly what GSP has been elbowing during training camp. Most of the time, fighters practice GnP elbows on a heavy bag laying on the mat.
So I guess we know have 2 questions heading into this fight.
1) Will GSP’s lumpy elbows cause discomfort and keep him from throwing his big elbows from the guard?
2) Will Thiago Alves make weight?
Has anyone heard about Alves’s current weight recently???????
Yea he said he was 183ils yesterday at the press Conf. He said he is usually 188il but is ahead of what he thought he would be.
Oops i ment 183lbs
Great news, not only is Alves looking good weight wise but GSP is potentially coming into this fight injured. Don’t get me wrong, I want Thiago to beat GSP at his best so that there’s no excuses but staying healthy is a part of training and if he gets injured then fights anyway, it’s his own fault if he loses.
You said ils instead of lbs in your above comment.
Sorry had to do it.
At the press conference he said he’s cutting well. He was at 183 yesterday. He said normally at this time he’s around 188.
THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!
John said in another thread that he weighed 175 this morning.
Looks like he’s right on target then. That’s good news.
From greasegate to elbowgate. I hope Alves doesnt accuse GSP of implanting an extra elbow after he gets smashed.

lol, I love it, making the change now!

yes that is bursitis and yes it hurts and, yes it will be a factor I asure you.
Wow, that’s cool you can tell that from just a picture…why do I bother going to the doctor ever. Just kidding, but really you can’t tell what it is just from a picture.
yeah you pretty much can in this case, it looks like bursitis
Ummm, no you can’t. He could have periosteal new bone formation or any number of soft tissue conditions. People have been saying that his elbow has looked odd for a while now so who knows what it could be.
I’m not saying it’s not bursitis, all I’m saying is that it may not be.
Even if it is bursitis it’s nothing a cortazone(sp?)
shot won’t cure for the 25 minutes he needs it.
yeah its burisits
He could have periosteal new bone formation or any number of soft tissue conditions.
yes causing bursitis.
I don’t remember where it was, but I noticed his weird elbow shape a year or so ago. I think it’s just how his bones are structured. Looks weird but I doubt it’s anything else beyond that. That could be painful for Alves though, if smashed into his face.
I don’t ever remember seeing his elbow look like that before. It may just be the angle, but it doesnt look too good.
I don’t think it’ll factor much. Sure, GSP’s elbows are dangerous, but it wont stop him from doing everything else. And its not like Alves can attack the elbow.
Moi I agree with you on this one. I noticed the same thing on his elbow before the Penn fight. It is funny that all of a sudden it is an issue. Trying to create something out of nothing.
It’s bursitis and it will be a factor. google bursitis and see how common it is for wrestlers and MMA athletes.
http://www.canadastarboxing.com/ufc/2006/ufc65-bad-intentions/hughes-stpierre.jpg. Posted by BS further down. Shows up here and his elbow is bent.
His elbows stick out a little, but he definately does not have that all the time, it is not how his elbows are made. I have trained with him and I would remember touching an extra head coming out of his arm. Hope it does not affect his riddum.
I noticed his elbow during the Spike show (can’t remember the name of the show)…if it’s any consulation to GSP fans, I screwed my elbow up years ago by sliding into a goal post during a hockey game and it swelled up like GSP’s is. Broken bone chips floating around in my elbow aside (years later), it doesn’t bother me…but, I can predict when it’s going to snow better than the local weatherman.
I’m sure he’s fine.
yep…if if was too bad I’m sure he’d pull out of fight…or at least I’d hope he would
when are weigh ins and where can i watch them?
http://www.eorthopod.com/images/ContentImages/elbow/elbow_bursitis/elbow_bursitis_intro01.jpg
looks familiar.
I bet he had Vaseline injected into his arm. So at various times during the fight he can lube up.
Sounds like someone is still a little sore that BJ got SMASHED.

sorry this link offers a more clear explanation, hopefully Mania will allow it.

I will — but please use TinyURL in the future

Look up “Olecranon Bursitis” in your search engines for some details on this condition. We should hope for GSP’s sake that this is just a coincidence that he elbow looks like this. Something tells me thought that it can only be one thing.
pic here (wikipedia): http://bit.ly/gjxNa
well. val kilmer had a nasty elephant elbow in HEAT when he woke up on Deniro’s floor after he stormed out on Ashley Judd and went out drinking and brawling. and all i know is it didnt affect his ability to pull off a huge bank robbery and wild gun battle in the streets of LA. plus he was the only one who got away at the end.
so yeah. in short. GSP will be fine. if history has taught us anything.
lmao…that’s funny, I remember that scene.
Great movie.
best shoot out scene ever
lmao , nice reference.
Winner!!!
haha hahaha hahahaha (chuckles subside as I think to myself, “Nice reference…”)
Well played Hardcase. Well played.
Useful.
lol….sorry
HGH side effect?
LOL, I was waiting for someone to mention this. The only problem is, HGH isn’t biased to only one part of the body. Coleman is a perfect example of HGH abuse.
Jesse, that was my first thought. When I used to follow pro bodybuilding, that was know as one of the common side effects.
Did they say elbows or elbow? lol Yeah ONE of the side effects, where are the others (including the other elbow)?
“known”
Some theories to GSP’s mysterious elbow…
It’s a microchip tracked implanted by Greg Jackson
It’s the source of GSP’s “Riddum”
It’s a characteristics shared by all french canadians break-dancers
I go with #2.
…it’s a fat deposit brought on by too much poutine.
I’ve had too much poutine & gotta tell you, it normally shows in the front, not the elbows.
Nice try intro! You surely not from QC!
Hey Mania. . . You should just give it away. i dont know what your talking about but i am very curious to know.
Hold on he has an elbow… I can’t stop staring at his rock hard abs lol.
Oh okay. Damn i hope that aint serious.
BS… His right elbow has always looked like that
http://www.canadastarboxing.com/ufc/2006/ufc65-bad-intentions/hughes-stpierre.jpg
dude?
Good find BS.
Anyone know if you can watch the weigh-ins live online anywhere? cheers.
Pause at 0:08 second mark on this. Same thing.

I’ am sure it’s photoshop just to get people betting on Alves. WAR GSP!
I just saw a clip of the penn fight and his elbow looked a bit large, not like the pic but it did look bigger than avg, maybe it really just is an angle
generally once you have injuries like that they are prone to come back, so this is probally something he has had in the past as well.
Yea right I’m listening to all these schmoes on here talk about like GSP’s elbow like they’re doctors lol. It’s a allergic reaction caused by the absence of grease. Maybe he’s finally playing fair.
“That’s so fresh too. Any, any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me too as long as we’re hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. God you’re so funny!” Stewie Griffin.
Damn, that doesn’t look good…Thiago via arm bar!
That’s the sack he keeps his vaseline in.
Elongation of the bones is a side effect of HGH use. I’m just saying.
Must be why Brock has that giant bone(r) extending towards his neck!
The key word being BONES, not only one bone. Think about it.
He looks like Popeye.
If you freeze the gatorade commercial a few articles down at the 8 second mark, his elbow looks weird there too. . . I think its just the way his body is built.
It worries me, If GSP is not 100% that night I dont think he will win. Alves is a beast, you need to be at your absolute best to beat him.
I hope GSP is 100%, but I don’t think he’ll lose if he’s not. Ofcourse we wont find anything out if he wins. He destroyed Fitch and Penn, who IMO are both better than Alves. So, I think he can beat Alves with a little swelling on his elbow.
If he is injured I can see GSP not pulliing out because its UFC 100. Hopefully this doesnt come back to bite him in the ass.
you can see in this video that it’s big as well.

E.T. – The Extra Testicle
GSP wants a hug.
thats a ’swellbow’
You guy’s are all Wrong! he’s been training with kenny,he’s been working alot of elbows.Ground and pound, and breaking Bricks.Just kidding, it could be a cyst. could be drained or have to have surgery. After the fight?
