DaMarques Johnson signs multi-fight deal with UFC
Recent “The Ultimate Fighter 9: United States vs. United Kingdom” welterweight finalist DaMarques Johnson (9-7) has been awarded a multi-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, according to a report from The Salt Lake Tribune. The award comes on the heels of the Salt Lake City native’s losing performance at the “TUF 9 Finale” on June 20th where he was soundly defeated by season winner James “Lightning” Wilks (6-2) via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:54 of the first round.
Regarding his newfound employment, Johnson had the following to say, “Coming in second place in a fist fight kind of sucks. [But] it didn’t turn out all bad.”
Aside from the number of fights, the details of Johnson’s UFC contract were not disclosed.
Johnson had three fights over the course of the Spike TV hosted reality show, one elimination bout to earn a spot on the “United States” team, and two others to reach the his spot in the finale. He won each of those bouts (considered exhibitions) by technical knockout, submission, and unanimous decision, respectively.
Johnson, a former army soldier, began to practice mixed martial arts under the tutelage of UFC veteran Jeremy Horn.
Hey Alpha i just got back into training. Im gunna try to fight on the July 23rd card for Warriors Cage the day before my 19th B-day!!!! That will be sweet. Anyways Im a bit out of shape after the month and a half off so if im not ready then i will be fighting for sure August 19th man.
