Ditto. Also, I read in a recent Fight Magazine (he’s on cover) that he shows up to sessions and basically everywhere 2-3 hours late. I don’t have much respect for people with no respect for time. I know they like to laugh and say it’s just “brazilian time” but I think that’s bullsh*t. Show up 30 minutes late with me and my *ss is gone. In my opinion, that is arrogance at its finest.

Good point Jared. Not sure that Wandy is in the same boat but maybe they all are. For me, that shows a lack of discipline. I know Shawn Tompkins wasn’t having any of it.

I absolutely ADORE this kid. This fight is a dream fight for me! We dont get to see the two absolute bEST fighters in the world in a division facing off for the title. THe number 1 contender and the champion in a fight are rarely the best 2 fighters on earth in their respected weight class. i honestly believe we will get to see the 2 best WW on Earth facing off. not only are they the best WW, but they are the most exciting WW, that both conduct themselves with class, and would both be great representatives of the uFC TItle. NO matter what the outcome is, FANS are the winners in this fight. We will be treated to an amazing, excitinjg and competitive title fight, regardless of the outcome, we will be left with 1 hell of a Champion!

This will be such a great, and competitive fight that i know for a fact, it wont be the only time we see these guys face off in the UFC Octagon. Let the Saga Begin!

THanks for the GREAT Video Mania!

Good post, John old boy!

It’s a win/win, because after GSP disposes of Alves, we should get to see an Alves/Fitch rematch to establish the real SECOND-best welterweight in the world. My money would be on Alves catching Fitch this time!

Although I think Alves will win the title next week…I do agree that Alves will beat Fitch next time around, in a rematch that I know we will eventually get to see. Especially if Fitch wins his fight next week. Problem with that is that I hear that when JOe Silva told Paulo Thiago that his next opponent would be Jon Fitch, he literally screamed at JOe Silva with JOY! I am starting to have a feeling that Paulo is a lot more serious then we give him credit for!

I bet $10 bucks on Paulo to bet Koschek…It won me $40. in my years of mma gambling, I have yet to withdraw any of my winnings…so I basically still have the $40 in my account that paulo won be by ko’ing Kos who happens to be one of the fighters I dislike the most. So I think Im going to continue to ride the Paulo UPSET Wagon and bet that $40 he made me on THiago to beat Fitch!

If Paulo can get passed Fitch, paulo would be responsible for turning my $10 into about $120… I would have to become an Instant fan! lol

Interesting statistic … this will be GSP’s EIGHTH UFC title fight. That is some serious experience in the highest pressure fights on the biggest stage in MMA. You have to think that plays a role in the often-overlooked psychological aspect of fighting.

This is Thiago’s first rodeo, and the jitters will be HUGE. For GSP it’s another day at the office. Alves WILL be UFC welterweight champion one day; that day is not July 11th.

He’s probably b.s.ing about KO GSP. You know some guys do that, they talk about one thing leading up to the fight and on fight night they 180 the fight plan.

He says he plans to knock him out, I bet you anything that hes been working his takedowns and his GnP/BJJ.

Another ATT welterweight is going to get shown by their opponent that they aren’t in the same class as them. Last month it was Ben Saunders, which I said at the time was the easiest fight of the night to call. This month it will be Thiago the poodle Alves. I can’t wait to see him fight one of the AKA boys after GSP humbles him.

KOS also took the fight on short notice with no training camp. That makes a huge difference Alvez could never do that… he wouldn’t be able to make weight.

The only way Alves can win is if he connects with a huge punch in round one, if he doesn’t it will be GSP’s show for the rest of the fight.

Thats always what he says about his opponents. Never has anything else to say when it comes to a fight. He could be in a grappling match and he’d say it. “I’d knock him out…with an armbar.”

alves is gonna be surprised how strong and athletic gsp is. he’s never faced a guy as well rounded as gsp. gsp will take him down at will and punish him. the longer this fight goes, the more i favor gsp. no1 in the 170lb. division can stop gsp’s takedown. aside from muay thai, gsp is better in basically every aspect of mma, including cardio. this will be an easier fight for gsp than most people think. don’t be surprised if you see gsp finish alves in under 10 minutes. gsp by ground and pound.

Comment by Chadx23
2009-07-03 16:04:30

ahaha GSP couldn’t finsih BJ, the pudgy Penn a 155lber in 20 minutes! BJ had to give up during the break and you think GSP will finish Alves? No WAY!!! Only way GSP wins this fight is by DECISION. If Thiago wins, it will be by KO or TKO, decision. Everyone is on GSP nuts and I’ll admit for good reason, but, GSP is NOT unstoppable…If Serra could put him down then just imagine what Thiago can do if he connects with a good punch. Thiago has nasty kicks as well and will not be bullied by GSP like everyone thinks.

Comment by Jeremyjackson
2009-07-03 16:16:18

Penn is notoriously difficult to stop, due to his iron chin and BJJ knowledge, which makes him virtually impossible to submit. The GSP fight was the first time BJ has EVER quit in a fight.

BJ’s TKO loss to Hughes was a referree stoppage because BJ was eating shots while his arm was pinned and could not defend himself.

Alves has been much easier to stop than Penn throughout his career, with two losses coming by way of submission and one TKO. One of those Subs was courtesy of Spencer Fisher, a lightweight, while BJ survived three rounds with a 220-pound Machida and has consistently fought well above his natural weight class. Might want to get your facts straight.

All the other articles get too many alves supporters. He isn’t what they’re making him and ppl are all: oh he’ll be so much bigger and weigh more blah blah. Umm do ur research guys. Gsp always makes weight and adds bout 10lbs for the fight. Alves gonna add 25 over night? Cuz otherwise he can max outweigh him by 5. And gsp has the reach advantage too. So look it p alves nuthuggers b4 u just assume. Gsp 4 life

I don’t think Alves is anymore overconfident than any other fighter. Show me a fighter that doesn’t think he’s going to win going into a fight? Of course he thinks he will win, or he wouldn’t be there. The problem for Alves is that he isn’t equipped for what he’s going to run into on July 11th. GSP will win this fight, and it will be easier than many think. The good news for Alves is that he’s very young, and he has a long ways to go in this sport. I think this kid has a very bright future, but it isn’t his time yet. He isn’t fighting KOS, and he isn’t fighting Fitch. He’s fighting the guy that ran right thru both of them with his wrestling, which was their biggest strength as MMA athletes. I don’t buy the strength bullshit either. Alves might be what, like 5-7 pounds heavier than GSP come fight time? That’s a totally overrated asset and will have no bearing on this fight. GSP gets to dictate where the fight goes. He can certainly take him down at will, and win the fight by GNP and controlling him, but with the way GSP’s game has evolved, it wouldn’t surprise me if he were to kick his ass standing up the entire fight either. Bottom line, GSP will decide where the fight goes, and i don’t see it going past the 3rd round.

I don’t see anybody taking GSP’s title away for a long time. With the rate he is improving and learning, it’s starting to become unfair to the other welterweights.

GSP will win this fight decisively. I see a 3rd or 4th round TKO from The Rush.

LOL good post’s. I hope to god most of you guys are right, I really want gsp to dominate alves, but you never know. Alves seems so pleased with himself like he already has the belt, but like he said either way its not the end of each others career. One thing that kind of bothers me is why is alves camp so confident in alves and gsp’s camp doesn’t seem as confident? I guess its just the way they are….GSP,GSP,GSP!!!!!

i recently made a similar post:

alves has killer knees, he is smart enough to know GSP will shoot sooner or later and could look to set that up possibly, but GSP is a ridicuosly smart fighter with a badass camp and gameplan so he knows the threat.

but if GSP tries the takedown from the clinch he could eat a nasty knee from a man whos pro in the clinch game, not me…alves.

i see a fast smart GSP timing his shot very well and getting it down where he will begin his assault, but if he dosent finsh it first time it hits the mat he will be in the same scenario?????

also GSP is so damn crazy so dont be suprosed to see him land some shot that rocks Alves early into the fight

fuck my life im really hoping Alves by 2nd round KO

my prediction is : in the first round , alves will be very aggresive, he will try to knock him out like serra did, also GSP will try to take him down like always he did, But if GSP can’t take alves down in the first round, i m sure he will be tired and alves will knock him out , and if GSP can take alves down , the fight will end in five rounds, so my prediction is either ALVES by knock out in the first round, or GSP by split decision. sorry i m not good in english , i hope you understood what i said…good luck

Alves has a serious shot at knocking gsp out. i cant wait for this fight, this guy has the right attitude and seems to be supremely confident. I cant wait to see what happens. Thiago is the first REAL threat to gsp. I don’t understand where all this disrespect is coming from tho? just cause he comes into training a lil late? HE pays them to train him! they’re probably his close friends also…people really shouldn’t make assumptions and judgments until they really know someone. but im guessing none of you kids know anything about that.
