” … I’m fine, thanks God, I’m focused. I will fight in my weight and you know, I prefer to fight in Japan. Melvin likes striking, so my strategy is to wait him come, grab him and see what happens. I have to respect, he is a very tough guy. He’s coming from a sequence of knockouts, nice, but I’m more complete in the MMA game. Who thinks I’ll change punches with him is wrong, I’ll do my game, try to put him down and define the fight where I’m good. He’s very hard, but I believe that I beat him … what I want is win this fight. Let’s go step by step. First, I’ll face Melvin and see how it goes, try to do the right thing. The head is good, the trainings are very good and we will try to fix things.”
Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom, Paulo Filho, talks about his preparedness for K-1 wrecking machine and mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran, Melvin Manhoef, at DREAM 10 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on July 20. The former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) middleweight champion will look to return to his old form after a bizarre year, during which he battled depression and an addiction to prescription medication. Prior to slaying his personal demons outside the ring, Filho was considered among the top fighters in his category in the world inside in it, as well as certainly one of the best submission specialists in the sport. He’ll look to leverage that advantage against one helluva ferocious striker in Manhoef. It’s the quintessential “Clash of Styles” match up, but whether or not Filho can indeed still do his thing on fight night against a killer like “Marvelous” will no doubt be among the most intriguing storylines heading into the event.

Manhoef is going to get destroyed. I love the Brazilian’s emotions … he will take the big man down and finish him in the first round. I have to admir Manhoef though, he loves a good challenge.
im taking manhoef by ko, rumor is hes getting good at defending subs so he can last maybe one or two subs from filho
The only problem is that filho is not the fastest starter so if they do the slow stare down ala Manhoef-Saku, then we all know how this ends.
NNR: They key for this fight for Manhoeff is Takedown defense, because Although he is getting good at submission defense, Paulo is world class on the ground. Manhoef cannot allow the fight to hit the ground. I think his athleticism should be enough to keep the fight standing long enough to PUNCH a Whole right through Paulo’s “Good Head”! lol
I got melvin in this one….HIGHLIGHT style!
That’s what i am thinking too!
As long as Filho isn’t in a vegetative state, he takes this one by 1st round sub.
All i’ve seen from Fihlo are his 2 fights with Sonnen but OUTSIDE of those he has a great reputation.
that being said i hope his is IS on right and he can show us what he’s all about!
Man, I hope his head is right. I really enjoy watching this guy fight.
Easy fight for Pablo. He’s a pussy if you ask me.
Easy fight for Pablo. He’s a pussy if you ask me.
sorry I did that twice.
Pablo?
Ya, thought it was funny. LMAO.
try again! lol
im sure hes been “training” very hard.
He prefers to fight in Japan where the competition easier? Or maybe JUICE? LOL.
Manhoef is gonna fuck him up badly!!
yeah its definitely the drugs. but either way filho will win
actually guys manhoef will pulverize this stubborn kid..i like filho before but ever since that stubborn show with sonnen..i dislike him as much as i hate rashad.
so i guess his problem was the lack of drugs not an excess of drugs…
all makes sense now.
manhoef by KO in the 1st
I like Paulo, but he has never fought a striker like Melvin. Melvin starts fast and is as quick as the chicken in Rocky II. Paulo starts slow, has horrible standup defense, and has spent his career fighting wrestlers, japanese tomato cans, and judokas. Add it up. Melvin via highlight reel KO in the first.
Hmm. None of my comments are posting….
But then that one did… what the heck Mania?
Melvin going to knock Filho out of his stupid ass flannel shirt
Dude is irrelevant at this point. He just doesnt have it in him. Kinda like how Cro Cop was (or still is when we find out at his ufc return)
