Marital problems force Kim Couture to withdraw from May 15 Strikeforce event (Updated)

Kim Couture (1-1) — the wife of former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture — has withdrawn from her fight against Meisha Tate (5-1) during the inaugural edition of the SHO MMA: “Strikeforce Challenger Series” at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., on May 15.
Tate recently posted an update to her MySpace page that cites marital problems as the reason for Couture’s withdrawal.
Here’s a snip:
“So Kim ‘Sugar Free’ Couture is pulling out of the fight supposedly cuz her and Randy are getting a divorce………..I’m so pissed right now……Sugar Free my ass!!”
Couture was making her second appearance under the Strikeforce banner. The 33-year-old Las Vegas resident recently won for the first time in her professional career, scoring a first round technical knockout stoppage over Lina Kvokov at Strikeforce: “Destruction” in November 2008.
She dropped her pro debut in a gritty, hard fought unanimous decision loss to Kim Rose at a Banner Promotions event last June — a fight in which she suffered a severely broken jaw during the first minute and continued to fight on for the full nine minutes.
While nothing has been made official, there has been some talk behind the scenes that Mrs. Couture’s involvement in Randy’s business affairs may have isolated him from his peers — and that “The Natural” may have drawn a line in the sand regarding her role in his personal and professional life.

“So I missunderstood about what I had previously stated, I have a few friends that train at Extreme Couture one of which told me Randy and Kim were having issues and then she backed out of the fight on me and I was VERY upset because most of you know this fight meant the world to me, it was my big break and I was really upset when I found out and jumped to conclusions. My apologies to Randy and Kim, When I wrote about them I meant no ill intentions and didn’t mean to blast their personal life, I was just focused on the fact I wasn’t going to get the fight. I forget how famous they are and didn’t even think how that might effect them and their personal life which was immature and stress my apology to them and who ever else it may concern.”

Truth right here. I have long been a couture basher for his blatant ducking of Big Nog over the years. He finally decided to face him after he saw him break for the first time ever but the universe has a way of setting things right. Can’t wait for the lines to be released on this.
If the Couture we saw against Brock meets the Nog we saw against Mir, Randy will steamroll him. But I expect to see a much better Nog in this fight.

I dont really hate Randy that much, he has had a long career. although I do think his career was over rated, I used to be a fan and still am, I just dont like the “New Couture”, since he retired from the UFC, and lied about what he was getting paid…Then he acted like he was entitled to fight Fedor and above fighting Nog but he wasnt above fighting Brock who had 3 fights total under his belt. THats when I lost all respect for Randy…but I do like the pre-Fedor Fiasco Randy….but I cant root for him anymore.
Anyone who has followed both fighters career, has to admit that Nog was the bigger legend of the 2.

Nog had tougher opponents, but Randy is the bigger name and won more titles. It’s a tough call.
Nog got the crap kicked out of himself so many times, but came back to win those fights… that is what makes him a legend in my eyes.
But what Randy accomplished in his forties is simply amazing, and that can’t be overlooked either.
Nog is a better striker and submission artist, Randy a superior wrestler and a cardio machine. Both guys have a shitload of heart.
I’m going to say that their careers are equally impressive in different ways. Both guys won’t soon be forgotten in the annals of MMA lore… and both guys need to retire immediately.

I’ll admit to not following PRIDE a whole lot back when it was alive, BUT Randy outstriking a prime Liddell and Sylvia would seem to make him a better striker, although Nog isn’t bad at it either.
But I agree with everything else.
Randy beat Liddell and Sylvia with his wrestling and aggression and cardio. He did land a big bomb on Timmy early, but with the exception of his enormous wingspan, Sylvia’s striking is vastly overrated.
Chuck is not technically a good striker, he just hits hard from weird angles and had confidence and decent hand speed.
Nog had excellent boxing technique up until his last fight. I would definitely rate his striking well above Randy’s.
Yea also last time, his footwork was not there at all. I hope the surgeries fix that coz even the Nog who fought herring at 73 would outbox couture anyday. Side note, Sylvia will soon be exposed by mercer in that cageboxing sham(btw is there a standing gentlemen’s agreement or not since it’s in a cage ala Strikebox?).
NOg outstruck a sick boxer in Sergei Kharitonov..I dont think there is any question that Nog is the better striker.
I think if they both faced each other in their prime, NOg would make Randy look silly! Im dead serious about that. I dont think Randy would stand a chance against nOg had they fought in their prime.
This is why I say Randy’s career is over rated. I think he had a great run at LHW, but he is one of the most over rated Heavyweights of all time. I mean what has he really accomplished at heavyweight that I should be impressed about? Sure dominating Tim when Randy was 40 yrs old was impressive, but that Gonzaga fight meant nothing in my eyes. I said leading up to that fight that gOnzaga had no business fighting for the title. I think Randy kind of picked and chose his fights as a heavyweight. why the hell have we never gotten to see Arlovski vs. Couture when they were in the UFC at the same time for about 7 years? No excuse for that. NOg beat MOster HW’s that were top 10 in their primes like cro cop, Sergie, Barnett, Sylvia, Herring (when he was top 5)….I mean whats Randy’s biggest win as a heavyweight? Tim sylvia? Pedro Rizzo?
Overall Randy had a great career, but his heavyweight career is over rated. MOst of what is impressive about Randy is the level he fought at in his 40’s….that doesnt make you the better fighter, its just impressive that he did that at his old age.
The world has never seen such a warrior like Nog. No one has more heart then him. He holds the most, and most impressive comeback wins of all time. Randy could never withstand the punishment that Nog took, and come back to win fights!
I think Randy’s win over Gonzaga was damned impressive, john. Gonzaga is a huge HW with awesome jitz and big power. And he was half Randy’s age!
I concur that Nog took an amazing amount of punishment… but the object of fighting is to give more than you get, so I don’t know how much I’ll reward him for that. I’d rather not get beat up every time I fight, and it has put a lot of miles on his body and shortened his career considerably.
Randy destroyed Sylvia in the striking and Sylvia destroyed Nog for the whole fight right up to the sub. Mir (of all people) destroyed Nog in striking. Randy held his own against GG (there was a fair bit of stand up. Neither one is a great striker, but it’s not hard to see Randy has better head movement and is the better striker. Nog is better at eating strikes, but that is another topic,lol.
Gord, Nog’s striking hasn’t been as good in the UFC. I really think the physical deterioration of Nog has hampered his ability to move and throw from angles. Randy may have better head movement, but Nog throws better combinations froma a technical standpoint.

exactly. His fight against Mario Sperry in pride was one of my fav mma fights of all time. Ninja even beat my boy Rampage…Judges gave the fight to page wich was one of the worst decisions EVER…page admitted that he didnt beat NInja, and even tried to give Murilo the medal pride gives out for winning the fight.
Ninja had a really nice career back in the day.

As for Kim, she has just made women’s MMA a farce. Pulling out of a fight because of marital difficulties is a joke and won’t do female MMA fighters any favours in getting high profile fights. This will just put more promoters off from women’s MMA and discredits all of the hard work that has gone into legitimising women’s MMA.
If Tate has gone back on what she said then women’s MMA has been dragged through the mud even further, childish ill-informed bitching on MySpace is not a smart thing to do. This mess is just making both women look very immature and unreliable and could put Strikeforce off booking any more women’s matches.

before a dude/chick gets married they sign a kind of contract that says if they brake up they get what the came in with and are not entitled to their other halfs belonings. watch eddie murphy raw, he does an awesome sketch on it.
A prenup is a legal document drawn up by a lawyer representing either the bride or the groom that states that there will be no community property once the coupe is married. They sign it, along with a signature from another attorney repressenting the other party involved.
When and if you sepperate then each party involved takes what they brought into the marriage and what they bought while married.
