Sad, but I am not sure why the special privleges? Seems to almost be an insult to treat the wounded like they are handicap “special people”. Lutenant Dan would agree.

I say we should let the guy that actually sacrificed his body decide if he is insulted or not. Why are people so interested in being offended for someone else? There may be soldiers that might not want the gifts or attention, and that’s fine but to each his own.
I think it’s always the right thing to treat our soldiers with honor. We treat the dumbest, irrelevent “reality” stars like gods. we at least owe our wounded soldiers the same as those idiots.
Props to the UFC.

I checked on his website and it doesn’t say he’s training with any camp in particular, and Wolfslair don’t have him on their ‘fighters’ page.
But I’m sure hes still with them.

Looking forward to his fight tonight big time. I like Hardonk, think some one said it well yesterday, “he’s one of the poorer fighters who I like”!! Met him at 85, sound guy, and alot bigger than I thought he was.

Should be good stand up, but I don’t think it’s going to prove anything about Kongo if he wins, as we already know he’s got good standup. Cain, Brock and Carwin are beasts on the ground, and lets face it, he aint going to be tested by Hardonk there!
Still, good fight though.

U r right Nick. This will be an entertaining fight but it wont tell us anything about how improved Kongo’s ground game is.

I will just have to sit back and enjoy what I expect to be a very entertaining Kickboxing match ups between two of the top HW strikers in the UFC.

The winner of this fight should face Dos Santos after he destroys McCully!

I just remember that’s what the reports were after the whole Juanito debacle. Also, I think that Joe Rogan mentioned it after his last win. Something like- “Damn Rampage and Kongo winning tonight putting wolfslair on the map” and yada yada.

On the highlight he didn’t shove Joe Silva.. At least, not the UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. He kinda pushed some black guy up there out the way, but it wasn’t Joe Silva

I don’t know why mania won’t post it (like it’s not obvious) but there are a few articles floating around about bully beat down being fake! I watched a few minutes (literally) of it, if you couldn’t tell the terrible acting (the 6′7″ guy) and the script, then you’re a moron. How many people would continuously cover someone else’s rent? How can Jake Shields (a legit BJJ black belt) only submit some clown 3 times, and actually get reversed once? those of you who thought the show was real need to have your head checked!!!

Listen genius this isn’t a political blog. I know damn well why we are in Iraq. What is RELEVANT and what I am responding to in this post is calling a serviceman a retard because he suffers from physical and mental ramification of war. Regardless of why we went there and what everyone’s position is the man stepped up to serve our country and he deserves respect. Period.

And btw- There are many different reasons why people choose to serve- to better themselves and their families, provide stability for themselves, get an education among other things. I can’t speak for the man but I think it’s pretty safe to say that fighting “for AMERICAN OIL that is stolen from the IRaqies” is not one of them. Whether you believe in a something or not it takes a lot balls to put you life on the line. You should be ashamed.

I wish they were fighting for oil, then maybe I wouldn’t be paying 2.50 a gallon for gas!
I’ll admit, quite a few of our armed forces went into it for the free education and got caught up in a pointless war, but you can’t sign up for the army, navy, etc without knowing it’s a possibility. My hat goes off to anyone defending my freedom, if it were up to me, we’d have dropped 4 or 5 bombs and once the ashes cleared, stole the oil…good thing it wasn’t up to me!

Comment by Jrandolph

Anyway, that is beside the point, this is an MMA blog, but still classless nonetheless to disparage a wounded vet.

Kevin/Synyster,

I’m going to try to keep this rant short even though it would be easy to let go long, but I wanted to bring up an analogy that I think mimics the anti-patriotism I see all too often these days. Especially you Synyster since your military days are ahead of you.

Do you remember when you were a teenager and you started to catch on to things that you parents were doing wrong? Maybe they were being hypocrites by doing something that they had told you was wrong. Most young people’s reaction is, “Ah hah! You guys have no business telling me what to do.” Then you tell your friends what idiots your parents are. Then several years pass and a lot of so-called friends betray you and in one way or another demonstrate their poor character. But your parents are there for you. And you start to think, “huh, maybe these guys aren’t so bad.” More time passes and many of the lessons you thought were stupid start to make sense. Then you think, “Maybe these guys weren’t idiots.” Later you realize that you overreacted to the discovery that your parents weren’t perfect. You think, “Yeah, they’ve been wrong about some things, but they are good people. More importantly you realize that many of the idealized notions you picked up in Philosophy 101 aren’t applicable in real life. And that your parents, while not as articulate as your Philosophy professor, understood more about life than you realized.

I think the same thing happens with our country. Young people discover a few areas where America is less than perfect and they pounce, “Ah hah! We suck!” But the years pass and much like my analogy in the previous paragraph they realize that while imperfect, America is a great place to be and it’s something to be thankful for. Traveling the world accelerates this process.

As for the anti-soldier, anti-country, anti-everything people, I don’t take offense like I used to. These aren’t happy people from what I’ve seen. When you start to succeed in this country you feel a little more grateful for the opportunities you were afforded.

I served six years and separated as a Captain from the Air Force. I actually didn’t like the military lifestyle, but I’m very happy I served. I’m very happy to be responsible for 140+ terrorist deaths. I feel like I’ve earned my citizenship. You don’t do it for the praise of other people. You do it for yourself and it creates a since of pride that can’t be erased by negative chants of non-patriots.

I had a WW2 vet thank me for my service at the VA hospital a couple months ago. There aren’t enough negative comments in the world to erase what that meant to me.

PYITO,
I have two boys 14 and 12. We have taught them to always thank a vet regardless of wether we agree with certain actions our govt makes or not. Also, regardless of wether he is wounded or not.
I don’t care what Dana’s reasons are, but if this gave the wounded vet a ounce of enjoyment or anything to take his mind off the insanity that active or wounded military have go through, I’m all for it.
By the way your point is right on. People’s opinions might change rapidly if they spent just one day in the life of the person they ridicule, but for most of us it takes years.

I love this country but i dont agree with alot of the things were doing and i think alot of people feel that way… Its not that were anti american and i dont know anyone thats anti soldier, even the people who dont support the war support the troops.
Bottom line is we have a corrupt govnt, they dont tell us the truth its everything they want us to hear.
And whats the deal with religion and politics? why is every politcian, governer, you name it there religious..
Im not saying there is anything wrong with having faith but not including people who dont have faith isn’t right.
some of the smartest people in the world are agnostic/athiest. 95% of scientists are.

We still fight and spend billions of dollars to have marijuana illegal, when all recent studies show its far less harmfull than ciggs/alcohol.
and the fact it would bring in billions of dollars to a struggling economy.
we dont have socialized medicine… millions of americans cant get the treatment they need. i myself need a schoulder surgery but cant because i dont have insurance.

Im rambling now but my point is yes were a great country in some aspects but there is alot of work we can do.

Mike22,
The reason for all of the pro vet posts are in response to idiots that are apparenly anti soldier. I don’t care what your political persuasion is, (and that is a valid debate for a different blog site) as an American, or even simply as a human, there is no reason to show disprespect to a wounded war vet. Unless of course, you are so bent on your hatred of America that it justifies you (not you specifically) demeaning someone who is willing to give his life while representing the U.S.

I completely agree, there is no reason to show disprespect to a wounded war vet.. I believe in general people should be more respectful of others, whether you agree or not you should be able to have a civil debate.

I was just pointing out that there are people who love our country and hate the things were doing at the same time..I love what this county stands for and the opportunities we have… but we can be so much better than what we are.

Great post ovaries. And Jrandolph that was exactly my point. Whatever your political ideologies are, if you are anti-war or anti-Iraqi war specifically- IMO doesn’t have anything to do with supporting the troops. If anything if you are anti-war it should make you even that much more reverent to those in the military because you think they shouldn’t been there, they shouldn’t getting hurt or blown to pieces. You should feel like its that much more incredible that they are willing to what they do.

I’m for being in Afghanistan, but never in Iraq. That being said I have nothing but the utmost respect for our military servicemen and women. And when I see a man or woman in uniform at the airport or where ever- I always stop and say thank you.

So Ovaries- thank you. Synyster- thank you in advance.

2009-04-18 19:11:25

Thanks for all the positive responses.

Mike22, I’m fine with finding flaws with our government, but I think there’s a lot more to love than to hate. I find those that have the venomous hate for our country are negative in general. They are pro’s at taking things for granted. (BTW, I believe in legalizing marijuana, I’m atheist, and Republican- weird combo huh)

The John Adams HBO special was amazing if you guys haven’t seen it; I would recommend it for you and your kids. It’s in no way propaganda. In fact, you have John Adams and Thomas Jefferson debating the opposing sides throughout their whole life. Anyway, it really opens your eyes to brilliant our founding fathers were. They were debating many of the things we still argue about.
