UFC Fight Night 18: “Condit vs. Kampmann” from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee, has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $30,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card. And it shouldn’t come as a shock whose wallets are leaving “Music City” a little heavier.

In addition to their base salaries, the UFC awarded lightweight scrappers Tyson Griffin and Rafael Dos Anjos for their gritty back-and-forth 155-pound war. It was a gutsy performance by Griffin, who staved off a gruesome looking leg compression in the first round to nab a record fifth FOTN bonus.

Grappling wizard Rob Kimmons made quick work of Joe Vedepo when he sunk in a slick guillotine choke to nab his first submission bonus. “The Rosedale Reaper” now has 14 of his 22 wins come by way of tapout.

Also on the undercard, Aaron Simpson locked up a knockout bonus when he pummeled fellow WEC castaway Tim McKenzie in their light heavyweight brawl. “A-Train” didn’t have much competition, as his TKO stoppage was the only one of the night.

Here are the special fight bonuses for “Condit vs. Kampmann:”

Fight of the Night : Tyson Griffin vs. Rafael Dos Anjos
Submission of the Night : Rob Kimmons
Knockout of the Night : Aaron Simpson

Again, each fighter received $30,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as they’re made available. The live SpikeTV event drew 10,267 attendees (a UFC Fight Night record) for a total gate of $626,077.

Sorry but Condit vs Kampmann should have been fight of the night.

I agree.. The 1st and 2nd rounds were great, which i thought condit closely won both…. but i think the 3rd round is what killed the shot for fight of the night.

man i was hoping dos anjos was gonna punish tyson’s leg! what a failure… he coud have ended the fight with leg kicks, that would have been sick!

yeah, Dos Anjos has ZERO KILLER INSTINCT. Not a lot of brain power in him. Heck, he threw like ONE leg kick after that crazy submission attempt. I’d like to say he somewhat redeemed himself form his last fight by going toe-to-toe with one of the division’s best…..but by barely attempting a leg kick after that attempt and spending close to the entire fight backing away from Griffin, he outta be stripped of his bonus…..he had a possible upset in the BAG!

You’re the one who’s lacking brain power. He’s a south paw….. how many fighters do you see throwing effective kicks with their lead legs? Tyson’s left leg was jacked and Dos Anjos was leading with his right hand. There’s no way that he could pack any power behind kicks with his right leg.

go watch any form of karate and you’ll see that most kicks come from the lead leg so they don’t break side stance. he could have very easily thrown good kicks from his lead leg. plus the guy is a pro fighter shouldn’t he be training his kicks from both the lead and base legs?

Comment by O damn he got caught
2009-04-02 08:06:59

Why does he have to kick with his lead leg?? Sounds like you’re saying that a south paw can’t use his base leg to kick?? What has Cro Cop been doing all these years then…

I’ve yet to see Crocop kick the left side of anybody’s head…..

so what you’re trying to tell me is that a leg kick to the outside of tyson’s left leg was his only option and a leg kick to the inside of the thigh/knee area would have been useless… right…

Comment by RoB
2009-04-02 10:58:14

I’m sure he has the ability to throw a kick with both legs inside or outside.. It’s only a matter of timing.. I can’t believe they didn’t give Dos Anjos that first round! that just shows you that getting out of submissions and taking someone down scores more than almost getting your arms and legs ripped off!

Tyson needs to finish fights. he could of caught him in and G-n-P his @ss! but he didn’t finish the fight and he needs to never be shown on a PPV event

OMG Who the f*ck decides FOTN?? Condit / Kampmann was the clear choice for me. I agree it was Dos Anjos / Griffin until the main event but there was no comparison for me after that. Especially since they were both trying so hard to stay active and all the scrambles and sub attempts, exchanges etc etc…Need I go on??

Scandalous…$30,000 is a lot of money for these fighters FFS

I missed the event. I have been missing a lot of uFC events lately, and I used to never miss any. I did manage to catch the Condit fight which was a very exciting back n forth fight, but Kampman bored me in the 3rd round. Props to Carlos who came to fight, I was disappointed that Kampman didnt want any parts of standing with Los.

i know Carlos lost, I would have actually awarded him the 1st 2 rounds…but what do I know? I do know that Condit hsould have proved to everyone that he deserves to be fighting top UFC welterweights!

I hit all my bets last night! I had Tibau straight, Miller straight, and me wrestler parlay of griffin/bader/Brock

They were both good but certainly the main event was the fight of the night. Although I definately found myself wondering if Kampmann and Condit discussed sub attempts and revertsals before the fight :)

tyson gets fight of the night for a 5th time, unreal, but i would have given it to the main event.there was so much in both fights, sub attempts,g’n'p,lots of stand-up,reversals,strong take-downs,pretty much everything you could have hoped for and both went the distance.just the fact that the main was a split decision, would imo give it the fight of the night, just a little more open as opposed to the little one sided,by judges card anyway, tyson fight.very enjoyable event it must be said.

I was a Junie fan and I think my mma knowledge may have been blocked on this fight by the fact that I work out of the same gym back in the KY as he does/did. But he really looked like shit.

Do you think they will have him back? I dont see it after that performance to the likes f a Cole Miller. The talent pool is so deep no, especially at 155 and with the new Ultimate fighter 155ers coming up in a few months, he may not get another card.

Thoughts?

Totally agree kamp vs con was fight of the night. The technicalities in that fight we’re ridiculous. Been a condit fan for a while now ,never cared much for kampmann. But after that fight I think he will be successful at ww. I think there was like one or two subs attempted in that griffin fight. There was 3 a round in kamp vs con.

Disagree.

Kampmann/Condit = Fight of the Night
Cole Miller = Submission of the Night

Odamn-

I read your post in the amputee thread.

Interesting analysis of my character based on words in cyber space.

Very astute.

BTW – Condit took the first round but Kampmann controlled the last 2 rounds with his strong wrestling and dictating where the fight went. He wanted no part of Condit’s stand up. Condit did more damage but K. bullied him on the ground for the most part. I had the fight a draw.

You going to attack my character because I disagree with you?

I’m a huge Tyson fan, but even I agree that Condit/Kampmann should’ve won FOTN hands down. The Tyson fight was actually pretty boring, save for that crazy leg compression. 90% was more or less boxing… and it was decent at best. They weren’t swinging for the fences, or anything.

Since when is a ud more entertaining than a split d. A split d the judges got worng imo. Condit did more damage and landed more successful strikes. But kampmann did dominate the 3rd round. And I don’t think carlos controlled him enough when he was in guard. Overall solid fight by both and there is room for em both in top 10 ww.

Fight of the Night?!?

Kampmann and Condit got robbed.
Hopefully this loss does not reflect poorly on Condit because like Kampmann said, this fight could have easily gone either way.
I did think Condit really made the mistake of clinching way too much because he was beating Kampmann standing up.
Check the FightMetric.com report

Which was surprising to me because I thought at first Kampmann would be the better striker; I was never really all that impressed with Condit before this fight; but now really looking forward to his next. He’s not a threat to GSP; but maybe in a couple years he could give it a good shot.

Agreed. I think Carlos got paid for his performance. At the VERY LEAST Dana will award him his win bonus
