They should test James Irvins superman punch!
Punching power and cocaine? Where’s Melvin?
Oh snap!
Haha.
On a related note, has anyone else seen the episode with Fedor doing the rear naked choke? They compare his ability to squeeze against that of a python. Pretty cool.
Im wondering why he would cry? And “legendary punching power?”
Maybe he was wondering why he has sucked so much lately. And the only thing that is legendary so far about Houston is how fast he rose and how fast he has fallen.
LMAO!!!!!!!!
you apparently have no idea of what it’s like to have a crazy adrenaline rush go through your body..
A substantial adrenaline spike may well improve power, but only very briefly… and it is followed by a tired, burnt-out feeling.
Not recommended for MMA unless you feel your only chance of winning is to land a huge bomb in the first ten seconds of a fight… wait a second, adrenaline injection is the PERFECT strategy for Houston!
I started the vid halfway through, and I figured Houston was crying because they’d just showed him his child-support bills.
he wont get any condom depot sponsorship deals…thats for sure!
Houston’s lucky the dummy didn’t tackle him and GnP him for the TKO!
slugger city i so agree. why test this chump when my boy james irvin has enough power to bring down an elephant
They already tested Rampage, and the other show tested Liddell. Both hit harder than Irvin, so why bother?
I seriously doubt that Liddell hits harder than Irvin..
I’m still a Houston Fan. He was a victim of his own natural talent. He was so damn strong and looked like such a badass that he faced too-well-rounded competition too soon. I would like to see a lot of ground training and then the return of Houston.
As far as power. I havent seen anyone else in the UFC generate such power with short punches. Raw potential that needs to be refined.
I totally agree!.. the UFC pushed Houston too hard too early. that’s how it goes when you’re a fan sensation under Dana and his crew that only cares about making money on your name!
Like Brock, except he’s a complete freak of nature.
And being knocked out by Houston after taking at least four or five solid shots of off him is one of the reasons why people were sayng Jardine had a weak chin.WTF.
Screw adrenaline, get a ground game. On another note- I am happy fighters are getting alot more exposure for the sport. All of these shows and sponsorships are a positive.
Yea, he wants to thank his sponsor Cameltoe.com. J/K. That was an iteresting segment. Lets see if he can bring that adrenaline to his fight and make it to the televised portion of the show.
lmfao what ?
That’s amazing!! Although Houston looks incredibly distraught afer the adreline rushes, almost kinda creepy….
Houston is the man!! I’m always gonna be a fan of his.. he is entertaining and always comes to fight..
Finally an opponent Houston can beat.
He said you remember how you felt when you lost that fight? Houston should’ve said, “which one?”
they should test how adrenaline affects your ability to suck at grappling.
Dude…..that was hilarious, I cant stop laughing.
WIN!!
Apparently a lot lol.
I’d give all 3 rounds to Houston 10-9 (would have been 10-8 rounds if he could have knocked him down but….)
oh yeah. and rampage threw a punch with 1800 pounds of force in episode two of that show. and he didnt have to lose his mind or cry after. the whole process of which seems like it would be detrimental to a fighter generally.
Wasn’t Rampage’s punch measured in psi?
pounds of force really? I doubt it. 1800 psi more like.
Nah wait, I don’t think in lbs. I think metric. 1800 psi woud be ridiculous too. 1800 lbs of force, you’re probably right.
This isn’t just adrenaline-it’s a completely different thing of which adrenaline is only one component. The changes involve emotions and a number of other changes to the state of consciousness and the nervous system/muscular system interface. I am not saying anything about his actual skill or lack thereof as a fighter or in specific portions of the MMA game, but I believe it is inaccurate to say that crying or losing his mind afterwards is detrimental to him as a fighter, as long as it is in the aftermath of a fight.
The modern english word berserk, now used as an adjective, was actually a noun at one point-it described specific groups of vikings who went into a kind of trance and became extremely strong, faster and more agile than normal and highly resistant to pain. This is referenced over and over in both the old sagas and in early medieval legal documents outlawing the practice. These men were used by the Norse kings as shock troops on the battlefield because of their strength and ferocity.
This is something that is hardwired into human beings from time immemorial, yet more easily accessed by some than by others. For more information, do a search for “Somafera” and see what comes up.
Didn’t they do this same kinda test with Page except they were trying to find out how hard he hits not the effect of adrenaline on the body?? If I remember correctly Rampage hit the bag with 1800 lbs. of force. That blows away Houstons’…
a punching bag distributes weight wich equalls more than a head or so a speed bag, so houstons wasnt less of a punch but just in a smaller area were it wasnt distributed to create more force. Science buddy, science.
not saying rampage doesn’t hit harder than houston, but if you watch the rampage clip he is throwing a hook where houston is really throwing much more of a jab. that would account for a pretty good difference in punching power.
if it was a jab then it would be from his leading hand so its more like a straight cross
yeah i agree, didn’t say it was a jab, just more so a jab than a hook. still though if they rampage through just a standing standard straight it wouldn’t have registered 1800. still stupid strong punches from either man.
There is no way in hell Rampage hits 80% harder than Houston. There were a few different variables in either scientific experiment. I can see Rampage actually hitting harder, and being the better striker (boxer), but 80% harder? No f’n way.
im pretty sure it was 1800 psi
no way! that would kill someone! 1,800 psi woulod be like 8,000 lbs of force if you take the size of Pages hands
Houston threw a 1000lb sraeight punch, Page threw a 1800 lb hook , big difrence, you generate way more power when you trow a hook because you use for body momentom boys and girls, both impressive thow
I’m glad someone fially pointed this fact out. Also, a “dummy head” is smaller than a 200lb punching bag lol, plus if anyone remember Rampage did like a hop and skip before he threw that 1,800 lb hook. Rampage hits hard, but there are many boxers who would make Rampage look like child’s play. One of these shows had a retired boxer who was like 40 something and he threw a 1,500 cross at a dummy head similar to the one Houston was using.
In the end it doesn’t matter because it only takes like 200 or 300 lbs of force to the jaw or temple to KO someone on average….
who else was pretty pumped up, i was.
Alexander sucks.
It’s easy to critise Houston on the internet but most bashers would shit their pants if they were locked in a cage with him.
My thoughts exactly. We can all sit here behind our computers and talk all the crap we want about a fighter but I give all these fighters respect for doing what they do. Houston might have lost a few but the man fights for his four daughters and I give him respect for that.
Those of us who have done some sort of physical/competitive training give him respect as a man.
However, as an all-around MMA fighter he does have serious holes in his “game”.
Its not personal, but his ground game is awful.
Yeah, Silva exposed his holes, but IMO Shafer almost did a full-blown documentary on him.
Agreed!
dont like how this is kind of glamourising adrenalin rushes when clearly if you were that pumped in the fight all ur energy would be sapped within seconds…thus meaning ur gonna get whopped in the 2nd and 3rd round….
all the best athletes are usually calm and collected even before explosive exercises i.e usain bolt.
plus look what the sandman did to houston!
It still translates well into the real world. You don’t have 5 minute rounds in a street fight, and most of those are over in a matter of seconds. It is also interesting for other competitive sports. I compete in powerlifting contests, and see people do all sorts of things to get amped up. Next time you try to do a max lift at a gym, try getting amped up, and if you can get your hands on a smelling salt, use that. It is amazing how much that little bit can do.
I totally agree, great examples are Fedor and A. Silva . If I fought MMA, I would make some sort of meditation a part of my training regimen.
He punches like a lady.
yeah u think that? maybe you should say that to his face or better still say something about his kids that’ll piss him off
then let him hit u on the chin..
Win lose or draw, I’ll always be a Houston fan!
show the man some respect you douchebags!
Rampages shots were measured is pounds per square inch (PSI). Chipdog answered right about less area to hit.
Amazing how many douchebags on here are insulting Houston. Why? Because you fell for the hype and he disappointed you? The dude never claimed to be the best, he just went in there and fought. Ok, he doesnt have a ground game, but once again, nobody ever claimed that he was the full package. I’d be just as excited to see a Houston Alexander fight than I would any other champion.
To think Houston has only one adrenal gland! That is impressive. I beleive he donated one of his kidneys to his daughter.
He did donate a kidney to one of his children, which is something to be respected. However, your kidneys are not your adrenal glands.
I like Houston. I do agree that he has some holes in his game but damn that dude can punch. I am 6′3″ and walk around at 250lbs, I would not want to take his punch.
i guess liddell, rampage, gsp and even the sandman sucks too because they all got knocked on their asses.you guys are sad.
At least the guys you mentioned are true mixed martial artists. Houston is just a brawler, albeit an entertaining one. His ground game is non-existent and his stand-up technique is laughable. His only real attribute is punching power. He might be a really nice guy, I’m just keeping it real.
alot of smack talkers but no one willing to get in the cage with houston huh?
people can talk all they want but couch potatoes and fat ass computer geeks that have nothign better to do should get a different hobby. win or loose hard hit and any one who can get in the cage and take and also give a beating should have respect.
Houston is the man. Quit pointing out his ground game. This isn’t a test to determine how hard he can squeeze a RNC or triangle. It’s a punching power test, and I think he is the man to ask in this department. Other guys can hit as hard or harder, yes, but give this guy another cheque for his family, f***.
YO mmamania , when is this on tv and where? thanks!
Houston has my respect. He donated his kidney to one of his daughters and he is not afraid to go after what he wants. That is why he made it to the UFC. My hat is off to him.
I really enjoyed watching this segment of adrenaline rushes. It is remarkable at what the human mind can generate and how effective a person’s emotions can become.
This makes me want to go to the gym and pump some iron. I feel like going after that 500 pound bench press that I have never been able to accomplish. One day I will get it.
500lbs ? Damn that is a crazy amount of weight. I saw a guy a played highschool football with put that up, my senior year and I couldnt fucking believe it. You Put any where near that much up and youre the man in my opinion. I can only get up 235 ( my goal is 250 ) I only weigh about 165 though
That is pretty good lokie. Thanks for the compliment. I try to powerlift when I get a chance. I have always loved strength sports like powerlifting and the world’s strongest man competition. Keep going. You will get 250 bro.
The worlds strongest man competition is fun as hell too watch. Those guys are ridiculouse! How a humna can have that much power is just amazing
400 more psi, i dont think so. the first hit was on the chin that gave way and the second was up on the face.
How much money did he get for taking a adrenaline injection?
Probably nothing adrenaline is buy far the best thing you can experience in my opinion. I would stand in line for a shot.
Do a search for “Somafera” for more information on the physical/psychological/physiological changes he refers to.
