“There are so many good guys in my division but I managed to lock eyes with Georges St Pierre outside the cage and we had a moment where I was like — ‘I’m coming for you, I’m coming for you.’ But I know I’ve still got improvements to make. There are some guys I need to pick off on my way up to him. But whoever the UFC send me next, I’ll be ready.”

– Dan Hardy talks to The Sun about the moments after his sensational knockout win over Rory Markham at UFC 95: “Sanchez vs. Stevenson” at The O2 Arena in London, England, this past weekend. “The Outlaw” scored his second win inside the Octagon in impressive fashion and now has his long-term sights set on capturing the division title. He’ll need to put together a few more wins for that to happen, which he seems to understand. In fact, he expressed an interest in facing someone like Marcus Davis in his next fight. That sounds more like it … at least for now.

Fedor to possible headline UFC 100

Cofield and Iole are merely speculating…don’t forget how difficult it has been for the UFC and Fedor to reach agreeable terms in the past.

I know Jesse, but their not speculating that Dana said GSP/Alves will not headline 100, not to mention they are trying to set up a Brock/Fedor fight. Now that Fedor has beaten tim and AA, the timing is a lot better than before!
I personally think it’s a crappy match up! Randy stands no chance in this fight. The only reason it makes sense, is to set Up a Brock/Fedor fight, but since Mir will beat Brock again, it really makes no sense, unless Fedor is now going to be fighting guys coming off of losses!

Fedor will NOT FIGHT at UFC 100! I promise you that! Afflictions 3rd show is in July and they are already negotiating a Fedor/Barnett fight. Affliction canty put on a 3rd show without Fedor so they WILL NOT BE LENDING HIM OUT TO THE UFC for UFC 100. Fedor has 1 fight left on his Affliction contract, so after the Barnett fight its possible, but not at UFC 100… I dont care what Kevin IOle says, Fedor will NOT fight at UFC 100

Props to Fedor for winning his 5 Sambo title! He won the quarter finals, semi’s and Finals, in under a minute combined!!! Dana, is it really neccessary to try to hold him back from his 1 minute of Sambo obligations per year?

Kevin:

I’m with you on the Mir beating Brock again thing. I compare this to the 2 fights Hughes lost to Dennis Hallman. Hallman finished hughes in under a minute the 1st time they fought and even though Hughes had improved leaps and bounds by the time they rematched, Hallman subbed him again in the opening seconds of the 1st round. I’m sure Brock is training sub defense & especially leg-lock/foot-lock defense like nobodies business but it won’t stop Mir from tapping him out.

Oh and the whole Brock can’t be arm bared theory is totally false. If your insight into physics and body mechanics is lacking and you need to see a live example, just check the Nog vs Bob Sapp fight. Sapp weighed about 100lbs (pure muscle) over Nog. Sapp’s arm was like the size of Nog’s torso and he still tapped that big beast.

When are you going to come around on Brock Kevin? For the past two fights youve been so sure he would lose. Hell stomp Mir and will be a very difficult opponent for Fedor, (if it were to happen) no matter how green he is.

my comment was geared towards Brocks ground game!

Mir will be ready for the rush this time and after seeing Mir’s improved striking I feel as though he can hold his own with Brock…that will leave Brock working the clinch and going for takedowns at which point he will get subbed….imo btw

Comment by JV
2009-02-23 13:42:16

I dont think there will be a “rush” this time McArthur. Mir’s striking looked ok, but it only takes 1 from Brock. So theres no need for Brock to try to go to the ground.

I agree John. Dana will not let Fedor come in and have a shitty fight with Randy and then renegotiate more fights or a potential contract when/if he leaves Affliction. It may happen after UFC 100 but it will be a while after if at all when he has met his obligations but even then he will need time to prepare for any potential fight that Dana does give him.

Comment by john
2009-02-23 19:04:14

yeah man…. Lets face it, Fedor wont be at UFC 100. He has 1 fight left on his Affliction contract which is being negotiated as we speak to Face Barnett in july at Affliction 3. Because Affliction needs him for there 3rd show in July, they wont be willing to lend him out (assuming Dana would even accept him on a loan).

after he fights Barnett in July, He will have fullfilled his contractual obligations with Affliction and he will hit the free agent market again. This is probably going to be the last chance Dana has of landing Fedor while he is still in his prime. Lorenzo Fertita needs to Ban Dana from Fedor Negotiations….Lorenzo should sit down with Fedor’s agent Vadim and this is how the conversation should go:

Lorenzo: So Mr. Finklestein, what are your demands?
Ficklstein: (vadim starts listing them)
Lorenzo: DONE!!!!

Short, sweet and to the point! Yes he should be given special treatment over every single UFC fighter. So far, Its obvious that Dana cant sign him in the UFC if he is going to treat him like he treats all the other fighters. Special exceptions need to be made. Fedor is bigger than the UFC…Dana cant have him out there making other organizations legit!

I like him now, and I think he has what it takes to become an upper echleon (sp?) fighter, as long as he fights competition at his level. I think he could take AJ, but Davis or Lytle would be good fights. Davis would be the hardest test for him of the 3, but I think he COULD beat them all.

I think Johnson is WAY overhyped on this site. Kevin Burns was able to hang with him for 5 rounds before getting KO’d. I think the guy is a great up and coming fighter, but Kos would tool him, and so would Fitch and Swick and a number of other guys. Johnson has a big size advantage in most of his fights, and that helps alot. For example, if he ever fought Marcus Davis, he would crush him and it would see like he is awesome, but Marcus is just really fucking small. Everyone saying he would get Swick is nonsense. Swick is undefeated save for one decision loss to Okami. He has lighting fast hand speed, and he would be bigger if not the same size as AJ. He fought at 205 before, remember!? Swick would outstrike AJ anyday, and I hope it happens. Ben Saunders and McLovin would kill him too.

Uk fighters are putting themselves on the map. you got:

These arent just c-level fighters used to fill an English card. THese are all fighters I would pay money to see on an American card. NOw that Wolfsliar is gaining more notoriety, more top Brits will emerge!

Good on you John! I would be willing to welcome you to a UK event. Ive been to 6 over here so far and to London events twice and the O2 is a very cool venue.

I didn’t make it to 95 but was kinda promised free tickets and really wish I went now. A guy I train with was the timekeeper and he only managed to get his close friends tickets, plus he got paid and a hotel plus expenses when he has never been paid before for doing it. If I get some good notice on an event I will be ringside for sure as thats where it’s at.

I had a few friends that went together and they got thier seats upgraded as well!! and were just outside the front row and they had originally only bought £125 tickets!! Im gutted now but will definately be at the next one wherever it is in the UK.

I think Condit will earn the W over Kampann. Condit’s more diverse and adapts well on the fly. Kampann will be stronger but Condit doesnt panic when he’s out-muscled (see his fight against Brock Larson). As soon as Kampmann gets the stand-up edge, bang, Condits takin it to the ground where he’ll end it from his back.

Not sure when they will hold the next big London card but if you can make to these shores I’m sure you would see a very memorable event plus there is a lot in London to do if you have money cos it is pretty expensive compared to the rest of the country and I would think even more by American exchange rates, but you only live once eh?!

Dan Hardy just came off sum wins but I don’t think he should be calling out GSP yet. It’s important not to get to cocky and work your way up to a fight like GSP. If he doesn’t I think he’ll be in for a surprise in that fight. I definitely do not think he’s on the same level as GSP yet. His aggression to fight the best is a good quality. It is good to be confident but don’t tack more than u can chew. If they did fight in shore Dan Hardy wouldn’t take it lightly and train hard. But GSP is just on a different level.

-I guess he meant a war of how fast Lytle can move forward while he backpedals. Spare me. I was a HUGE fan of his until he talked that fight up/begged for it, and backpedalled essentially the entire fight. styles are styles, but don’t tell me one thing and then do the COMPLETE opposite when the other guy follows up on his end of the gentleman’s agreement.

I bet GSP was thinking ” why is that guy staring at me like that?…why is he licking his lips ?…. is he coming on to me?” Hardy got at least 3-4 wins before he can start thinking title shot…. I say feed him to Swick, but i think that is even to hight for him right now, his real level right now is like Goulet or maybe Ben Sanders, that could be good( think would smash Hardy). I heard Mir, Couture and Lesnar also felt the death stair from Hardy… i guess they are next…. lol…. what a Dope!

Goulet! Nah he’s better than that. Lytle, Davis or Anthony Johnson next would be nice. If he gets past any of them he can begin to think about the big boys such as GSP, Alves and Fitch.

I did laugh about what you think Georges was thinking about the whole thing.

For him to take on GSP he needs to train with somebody covered in vaseline first, then he’ll be ready.

Yeah I am sure that GSP was nervous when they “locked eyes” LOL

LOL!LOL!LOL! Is this guy even serious? Improvments, that’s an understatement. Hardy’s skill level is so much beneath St. Pierre’s he doesn’t even have any place making a ridiculous comment like that.

He won with a knockout and got excited and had all the blood pumping to his head. I say give him Swick or Rumble.

Give him Rumble and when he comes back from his coma maybe he’ll think before he speaks.

Swick would be pissed if he had to fight a lesser contender like Hardy. They should have let swick fight Kampman so he could be ready for title shot soon.

I like that idea….Swick vs winner of Condit Kampman while the loser fights Hardy

LOL was my instant first impression when I read this. A few improvements? He has a LONG way to go IMO and I bet gsp didn’t even know they were locking eyes LOL. I know someone said he just meant he’s coming for the belt but still its a stupid thing to say, especially when half the division could beat him right now.

this guy aint going to become anything… he gets a co main event fight and he starts thinking way too much into it… someone needs to remind this guy exactly HOW he got a co main event fight!!! i dont see this guy getting past the likes of chris lytle… i say he would rank below gatekeeper… unless of course the UFC really does start pampering this guy like they do Bisping which i can definitely see happening..

Hardy looked great in this fight. I was surprised that Markham decided to play into Hardy’s hands so easily though. In the run-up to the fight, Hardy repeated many times in the press that he knew Markham would be coming forward to stalk and land big shots, so why on earth didn’t Markham’s training camp think of a different gameplan/strategy? Stylistically, this fight was similar to Bisping’s last fight against Leben at UFC 89, in that the Englishman used his footwork and counter-striking to score the victory, except in this fight the American opponent had a weaker chin!

All you hear out of this guy is my island and Brittish this Brittish that. The same comments from an American fighter or fan gets a bunch of “Stupid American” comments.

Stick him in there with a world class jits guy and we’ll see how much he talks then.

I love bangers as much as the next guy but as recent fights have shown its well rounded or out you go. He seems like an English version of Chris Leben to me. Fun to watch, but will never wear a belt.

I think the lad might be feeling a little silly after such a lame comment. I don’t think GSP will be losing a lot of sleep over this guy. Maybe in 24 or 30 months, if Hardy continues to develop.

This kid Hardy has no fear. I like his attitude. Why fight if you don’t want to be the man.

GSP would have probably say the same after his fight against Parisyan.

“My objective one day is to be the Champ. beat Matt Hughes!”

That’s old stuff! EVERY fighters wants to be a Champion in the UFC.

That’s not stupid, just a fact!

GSP is the target for everyone in the division. That’s it.

why are some dudes on here chattin like AJ would wreck Hardy?! thats just bullshit. Dont get Hardy confused with a brit – hes a Nottz man. Gunz n Knives reign supreme round here n tha hardy’s have a hand in it – he aint scared – hes got GSP’s kryptonite in both hands.
