Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG), the parent company of fighting entities DREAM and K-1, ended 2008 on a high note and ushered in the New Year with its ‘FieLDS Dynamite!!’ supershow which took place earlier today from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

The show didn’t exactly get off on the right foot after Joachim Hansen suffered a mysterious head injury and failed his pre-fight medical exam, forcing a cancellation of his much-anticipated bout with Gesias Calvancante.

A bit of a blow to a great event but with 18 fights set to go down, it was quickly forgotten.

One of the most shocking results of the night was Alistair Overeem’s knockout win over K-1 bad boy Badr Hari. Even though Overeem has a background in kickboxing, he was seen as an underdog coming into this fight under K-1 rules against the much more experienced Hari.

Overeem dominated early and managed a knockdown on Hari who was then able to get back to his feet. But it wouldn’t be for long. Just as soon as Hari was able to get back up he was on his back again from a well placed Overeem hook that knocked Hari out.

Could this be karma coming back to bite Hari in the ass for his antics in the K-1 Grand Prix earlier this month?

Overeem had this to say straight after his knockout win.

“For all MMA fighters, and everybody, who think respect is important. There you go.”

Props must be given to Overeem for beating Hari at his own game. The two are set to meet again in an mixed martial arts bout in early 2009.

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic was able to dispose of 7′ 2″ gargantuan Hong Man Choi via TKO. Cro Cop kept true to his words that he wouldn’t exchange with Choi, causing both men to be given yellow cards for inactivity. All ended when Choi fell awkwardly after a Cro Cop low kick, injuring his knee in the process.

Despite Choi being the one holding his knee in pain, Cro Cop stated in his post fight interview that in two days he will have reconstruction surgery on his knee and he’ll likely be out for up to six months.

I guess Gegard Mousasi and Tatsuya Kawajiri didn’t get the memo that mixed martial arts fighters weren’t suppose to dominate K-1 fighters in K-1 rules fights. Both finished their opponents with relative ease.

Perhaps the most shocking defeat of this event was Melvin Manhoef’s vicious knockout of Mark Hunt. It happened only 18 seconds into round one, shattering any previous thoughts that Hunt was almost impossible to knock out.

Shinya Aoki was able to cement his place as the first ever WAMMA Lightweight Champion with a slick heel hook submission on the highly ranked Eddie Alvarez just 1:32 into round one.

The now 19-3 Aoki is sure to be gunning for Joachim Hansen at some point in 2009 to avenge his loss to “Hellboy” at the DREAM 2008 Lightweight Grand Prix Finals.

And in the only MMA bout to make it out of the first round, Kiyoshi Tamura was able to upset PRIDE legend Kazushi Sakuraba via unanimous decision.

Here are the official results for FieLDS Dynamite!!:

MMA RULES:

Anyone else very impressed with K-1 youth? I’d much rather watch those kids than matt hamill striking. Also WTF is wall the insane upsets and the demise of top 5 P4P chins? First Fujita, then Nog, Now hunt. Is hendo next?

What makes it even more incredible is that he did it while backing up. Could Manhoef possibly have the hardest hands in the sport?

What makes it even more incredible then that is that, Manhoef took this fight yesterday..
Well?..Not too incredible..Its not like he went 15 minutes with that beast..He got out of there pretty early(18 sec)..But it is still pretty bad ass to have taken the fight yesterday, and to come out knocking the shit out of Hunt..

I completely forgot about that. He had zero training camp and he comes in looking better than most cats after a full 6 week camp.

Will someone please plug Melvin into the Matrix and download a reasonable ground game into his brain? I got into this on an old thread but he’d be a terror in the UFC.

Semmy’s got a sub game but he was talking all this nonsense that he had more than just that triangle. Mirko looked like crap and after Alistair’s performance against Badr(straight up merc’d) i don’t think cro cop stands a chance.

Please, please, please say you’ll be able to post some video links to these fights Mania! It sounds like this event turned out to be just what I’d hoped for. My little stunt with tin-foil, coat hangers, duct tape and hdmi wires didn’t quite work out.

It’s unbelievable that Manhoef KO’d Hunt. I mean anyone can be TKO’d regardless of chin but a pure KO? On Hunt? WOW!

Badr obviously got what he deserved. Overeem seems to be on a tear and from what I can gather his confidence is at an all time high. I wonder who’s next for him. I’d like to see him start mixing it up with the Affliction HW’s.

Sakurai & Kawajiri are my dude’s, win or lose I’m glad to see them shining. I wonder if we’ll ever see Sakurai back in the octagon again.

I’ve been trying to ignore Gegard Mousasi mostly because I’ve been salty due to his wins over Kang and Jacare. He stumbled on that triangle he caught Kang with and to win the Jacare fight with an upkick isn’t impressive at all in my book. But from the looks of things, I might need to start giving this guy some respect. I’ll see what vids I can dig up and see if this guy is really worthy of my praise.

Oh and that’s bad news that Hansen got injured. I hope he recovers quickly so he and Calvancante can mix it up again sooner rather than later.

definitely dont ignore Gegard Mousasi, the guy is super talented and has no direction to go but up! unfortunately hes thinking K1, moving up a weight, etc. In my opinion he could mix it up with anyone at 185, including anderson silva

I am a big fan of Mousasi and I think he would win against all middleweight except for Silva…… not yet anyways maybe with some time to polish his game. He is good maybe a little sloppy with his striking. Silva is just so smooth with his combos.

I’ve said elsewhere that Gegard Mousasi could be the one to take it to Anderson Silva. To me, the K-1 knockout further prove that he would be fine on the feet against the Spider. Gegard NEEDS to go to the UFC.

Most of these results are unbelieveable. Kawajiri was a GNP guy I thought, whats he doing winning K-1 matches? lol. I didn’t know who to pick for the Aoki/Alvarez. Aoki was my pick to win the DREAM GP, but I thought Alvarez would overcome him. Time for Hansen/aoki 3, WAR AOKI!

Oh, and Manhoeff is a BEAST!! Put him against the Spider, and if he avoids the ground, the Spiders going to sleep. I’m telling you, DREAM is the key to beating Anderson Silva!

Mousasi, Manhoeff, Aoki, Alvarez, and Overreem to the UFC!!!!

I agree Mousasi is becoming my fav fighter after GSP this dude really impressed me I thought this would be tough for him but he made look easy. I can’t wait till Abou Dabi and see his submission skills in action. I don’t want to underestimate him again so I think he will that too

the DREAM MW GP was at 185 though right? thats the Gegard I’m talking about. The dude that submitted Kang, Manhoeff, and KO’d Jacare. He weighed 215 for a K-1 match. Everything else is 185.

TKO I’m right with you. Gegard is fast becoming one of my favorites too. I seriously think he can handle the UFC MW division.

One has got to wonder if and how his ground game has improved since his PRIDE days fighting at 205 lbs. His top game was decent against Cro Cop which is the most recent fight of Overeem’s I’ve seen since this one. I don;t remember him being horrible from his back but there was definitely room for improvement.

I am a HUGE fan of Japanese based MMA promotions..There is alot of fighters that fought on last nights card I would love to see in the UFC..

Overeems ground game is pretty weak, but over the years he has improved alot on his takedown defense..I never really liked Overeem, but over the last 2 years he has been impressing me lately with the way he handles himself in a MMA fight..I think Overeem would be a good addition to the ‘thin’ UFC HW division..

Also I want to see Aoki, JZ, Hanson, and Alvarez in the UFC soooo bad..
