Brandon Vera — loser of three of his last four bouts — is expected to return to action against Mike Patt at UFC 96 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on March 7, according to FiveOuncesOfPain.com.
“The Truth” is a former heavyweight fighter who was considered a possible title contender until sustaining back-to-back losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum. He made the drop to light heavyweight quickly thereafter and scored a unanimous decision win over Reese Andy at UFC Fight Night 14.
He, however, did not remain in the win column for very long.
Vera returned against Keith Jardine at UFC 89: “Bisping vs. Leben” on October 25, losing a lackluster split decision. It was a big blow — Vera was uncharacteristically speechless after the fight regarding his performance.
He has apparently now reworked his contract (his $100,000 to win, $100,000 to show perhaps became a tad too steep) and will look to re-establish himself as a top fighter in the New Year against a challenger that Vera should — on paper — steamroll.
Patt filled-in for an injured James Lee on short notice to take on Tim Boetsch at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” back in September. It marked his Octagon debut … and one that he more than likely would have liked to have soon forgotten — “The Barbarian” clubbed him en route to a first round technical knockout.
Patt is a three-fight Bodog Fight veteran who has won eight of his last 10 professional mixed martial arts bouts. Prior to the loss to Boetsch, the Ohio native had competed just three weeks before taking the fight. He submitted Jarred Taylor at an Urban Rumble Championship (URC) show in the first round.

when your next fight is micheal patt you know u are on your way out the ufc..
UFC is heading to the phillapines which means Vera isnt going anywhere! Especially if he took a pay cut!
Well, they have phillipe Nover as their backup filipino so they can afford to throw him away if he starts acting up again.
This is almost laughable…….. wow Vera has stepped way down
It’s a freebie for sure but so was Reese Andy. We’ll see. Vera has a real steep mountain to climb.
It may not be a freebee for Vera. Mike Patt is a black belt in brazilian jiujitsu and an amateur kickboxing champ. He was matching equally with Tim Boetsch until Boetsch caught him with a right on the chin (then the ref stopped the match to Patt’s dislike). Patt’s won almost all of his MMA matches.
Yeah, he was making way too much to be fighting a guy like mike Patt. I hear that his contract negotiations went smoothlky and he has inked a new deal.
Mania: did he sign a new contract or did he just re-do his old one?
I think he was making 100k + 100k per fight they must have cut something now that everyone knows he suxs.
Signed a new one, and for sure took a pay cut. 100 to show and 100 to win, way too much for him right now but at least he doesn’t have to much pride to take that cut. But when/if they go there he will be the main event (anyone think they would put him vs Chuck?)
Can´t understand why the crowd is booing koscheck, they should start booing Vera instead! When the UFC makes it into the philippines then they can cheer for him but the american crowd should boo him because he fights like a f***in p***y!
Vera i hope you read this – YOU SUCK!
Exactly, he is/was the most over rated fighter in the UFC. I cant believe he is still in the UFC, not only has he lost most of the last few fights but he is boring to watch as well. I never want to see Brandon Vera fight again. Maybe if he fought me he could win and look good doing it….lol!!
Patt will get hurt by Vera i’d say. He took a paycut? That sucks but at least he’s still in the best organization.
i hope this fight is not on the main card portion
Brandon Vera vs. Houston Alexander, loser leaves town!
Seriously, why not book that fight?
There both losers and they should both leave town. We dont need a fight to determine that. If it did happen I would not pay for it and Vera would get his block knocked off.
After Houston logged his second huge KO, I will admit that Dana White/Joe Silva made a mistake. Houston could have been something special. He could have made us all smile.
Instead of elevating Houston’s competition in the LHW division, they should have put him in a bubble and fed him cans. He could have headlined every Fight Night or other Spike show against some up & coming striker.
Houston could have been a source of endless entertainment, protected from the mainstream competitors, logging vicious KO’s against whoever. The online flamewars over his belt-worthy status would have been legion.
Now though, he’s washed up and useless. They better not make the same mistake with the next Houston Alexander.
you’re high, it’s mma! I know (hope) you were joking! they did what should have been done and he proved he sucks!
Sounds a lot like Kimbo.
That definitely smells like the Shaw business model.
I believe he might become as hated as Tim Sylvia and the next time he gets booooed in and out of the ring Dana will have to send him packing. Then they throw him in there some guy that he is going to beat up and everybody can tell us how great he is again. I wont watch him fight, he is not worth me paying money to see.
Dana with Vera on the card you will force me to break my streak of Every UFC event there has been. I will still vote in the fantasy league but you wont get my money on that one.
VERA ALL THE WAY BABY!!!! gotta support my 757 VA native!! jus wait and see people vera will be back to his old ways!!!!
the old vera is coming back just wait!! he wasn’t overrated at all, he was good. and after that year without fighting he just lost it
Vera sucks and so do you.
He was very very overrated.
by who? by you.. yea that’s who, overrated is a silly word you know because it only means something for those who buys into the hype.. Vera said it himself don’t believe the hype believe what you see! times change, ppl change..
damn theres a lot of vera haters out there. im not one of them. he’s a good fighter that hasnt broken onto the top 10 of lhw yet. there was no shame in his loss to jardine. the fight was really entertaining, back to back flash knockdowns.
he broke his hand against timmy and still did pretty well. werdum was a questionable stoppage. he definately hasnt performed to his potential but hes got the skills and talant to do very well. he just needs to et meaner and cockier again.
I really despise Vera, its pathetic to feed a loser with a loser like this, just get rid of both of these “fighters” UFC please !
I used to like Vera, but I’m offically off the band wagon. Ever since he stopped training with Rob Camen he sucks. Not only that but he’s boring and a sore loser. The guy makes every excuse in the book. What a bum.
Why is the UFC completely ignoring the best matchup here for this event?
It should be Vera and Liddell mixing it up. Both of these fighters lost their edge and it would be the perfect opportunity to give one of them the boot. I like Vera and I like Chuck, but neither has done anything to bolster their careers in the last year. Chuck blew it after beating Wand and Vera hasn’t been the same since Werdum TKO’d him.
how is mike patt in the the most stacked division of the ufc? it doesn’t make sense?
vera would comeback…. im a filipino so thats what i believe in…. even if he lose again… so what?…. we have a pacquiao in boxing anywayz…. other fighters suck…hahahah
Faaaaak Vera! They should call him brandon THE EXCUSE vera. Fakkin disgrace….Stop wearing the flip colours!
Mike Patt! I train with him; good guy. I thought he was wrapping up his MMA career, and it seems a little unfair to put him out there on not much notice, but when he said he was fighting I was happy I already had tickets. Best of luck to ya!
