Yushin Okami vs Dean Lister UFC 92

Props: USA Today

Quoteworthy:

“Okami is a really good neutralizer. If you’re a real good striker, he can take you down, and ground and pound you. If you’re a good grappler, he’s hard to take down. He’s going to be able to make your strong point not as strong. He has pretty good endurance. He keeps going a constant pace in a fight. I’ve heard he’s very strong. He’s real tall and he’s a good counterpuncher. Overall, he’s a real tough opponent, of course. I’m trying to take easy opponents right now. I’m not trying take a payday and just hang out there, I definitely want to climb the ladder and do something.”

Brazilian jiu-jitsu player Dean Lister talks about his important middleweight bout on New Year’s Eve weekend against Yushin Okami because no one else seems to be. Unless, of course, the complaints about having to watch CB Dolloway fight Mike Massenzio on the pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast instead, count. The showdown between Lister and Okami is not guaranteed to make the main card telecast.

I love the boogyman, but I don’t see how he can win this one.

i am not really a fan of either fighter~

but i think it is crazy to have cb-massenzio fight on

the main card over this one..

cb is a tuf loser and should be on the undercard.

the only reason this card is not on the main card is

cause it has a great chance at going 15 minutes..

it might just be a good statagy to get off more fights on the ppv?

i hope this fight end with a great sunmission by anyone..

an anaconda choke by okami to put boogeyman to sleep

or

a triangle choke on okami, and put him to bed.

I cant stand the boogyMan, but I am not really a fan of Yushin either!

I will however bet a nice chunk of change on Okami. Lister is TRASH! I hate the guy and I dont see how he is going to be able to mount an offense against Yushin. Lister’s only chance of getting the fight to the ground is to pull guard. Problem with that is Yushin, like most Japanese fighters are impossible to submit…Lister has no chance. okami can G n P him for 15 minutes while avoiding submissions. It really doesnt matter. On the feet, Okami will kill Lister as well.

Just a crappy fight, that I am happy I wont have to watch. Not that cB vs. Massenzio is any better!

Okami right now is probably the most deserving of a title shot I think most of us can agree on. But having said that, I hope Lister can submit him. I agree with Lister that Okami’s style for the most part is very nuetralizing, and im a bit sick of it, would rather see Lister put a BJJ clinic than Okami lay n Pray

Yep, it’s going to be a boring decision unless Okami comes through with his new promise of exciting fights.

Okami is the Jon Fitch of the UFC right now. Best kept secret. He’s a top three MW easy. He would destroy Leites, Marquardt, and Gouveia.

Okami should take it. I like lister but IMO he is NOT ufc caliber. Would like to see him prove me wrong though. If only he could strike…

I agree this fight is much more important to the 185 division than CB Dollaway will ever be!! However Okami vs Lister has a lot of potential to be a very boring fight. I’m predicting Okami just lays and prays on Lister, the only excitement will be if Lister can pull a submission off his back.

I want to see someone do to Dollaway’s upper lip what Mimbo did to Thompson’s ear.

Demain Maia couldn’t sub Okami at ADCC. He plays a tight BJJ game. He is gonna control his hips and LnP lister, mark my words. I wish he gets a TKO so that Dana and Joe will start to think about giving him a title shot though.

“I’m trying to take easy opponents right now”….Did they forget the “not”? Or is Lister admitting he’s trying to take easy opponents? Okami’s not the best in the division, but this won’t be an easy fight for Lister.

Utterly disusted that this fight is not on the main card. When cd Dolloway comes on I will go for my rasta smoke break. I’d pick Okami but as said above lister is dangerous.

Brandon vera is gonna fight some can at ufc 96, looks like ‘the truth’ is he sucks!

Okami will destroy Lister, then he needs to fight Bisping to prove who is the number one contender to knock Silva off his pole once and for all.

yeah, that would be an horrible fight for bisping..

How is it that the Lister and Okami figh can’t make ppv when Okami is meant to be no.1? Its bull
CB may be good in the future but doesn’t mean he deserves to be on a PPV now along with Wanderlei, Rampage, Minatauro, Griffin, Mir etc
Don’t care what people are saying above, I don’t think the Lister v Okami is gonna be borin at all. Okami can’t lay’n'pray against Boogeyman. HE’s too skilled for that and will be lookin for sub after sub IMO

I think they forgot the not when he’s saying he’s taking easy opponents. And besides, why is this on the undercard again? Besides Silva and Franklin, Okami is the best in the UFC’s MW division.

If this were college football the match up is about like two 8-3 teams playing a regular season final. If you win you beat someone decent and improve your bowl bid a lot. 9-3 is far better than 8-4. Okami may have had a title shot before he broke his hand but he needs this win to be impressive or he needs to win and win one more good one to get a title shot. Lister is kind of in the same spot. A win over Okami is a feather in your hat. Another win against someone in the top 7 and he would get Anderson Silva. Bisping is another one.

Lister is in the same spot? How many fights has lister won lately i mean he’s good but not on okami’s level but that is just my opinion.

If you watch the whole fight of Ryo Chonan and Anderson Silva, Silva was getting worked before the fliying heel hook. Silva has a weakness and it is Judo guys who can kick. If you cannot kick Silva will kick you all day and use his long arms to keep you away with constant strikes. Wreslers and jiu jitsu guys have been beaten by Silva. Judo has beaten him 3 of his 4 losses. The Judo takedowns work better from a thai clinch. Okami is a strong wrestler gnp guy. Silva would kill him. Let him fight chonan again and have chonan move up to middle weight. start to build chonan now.
