thats how i see it, i think he needs to be carefull the first round and a half than sub him, but i could see soko knocking him out.

me too, this card has shaped up well. I’ll probably get it, but 3 ppv’s plus on demand movies is gonna push the bill way high! if something better comes up, it won’t take much for me to just watch it on ustream. if they have an HD link (which they usually do), I might watch it there anyways!

Babalu better train harder for this than he did for Booby. If he comes in shape should be 1st or 2nd round sub.

Babalu held onto a choke, bad lublicity.

Sokodjou is over-rated. Lost 2 fights. One to Luis Cane, bad baaad stamina.

i don’t think he is overrated he is only 24 and i think alot of top guys would have lost to loyota and cane.he deffinetly needs some work though and it was probally good that they let him go for him.he needs to stop calling out guys that have a ton more experience than him.

Soko needs to lean out a little bit. He carries around too much muscle. He can lose some muscle while still being explosive. If he could lose enough muscle mass to be able to drop to 185, I think he will be a force. He’s still pretty young too (24, I think).

isn’t he a big 205? i agree with adam, if he doesn’t get a ko in first 2 minutes, he’s done=over rated!
what is lublicity?

who is over rating him?he came to the ufc with what 3-4 fights, he happened to have 2 big wins in those but people shouldn’t expect so much machida and cane are 2 tough fighters but he does need to drop some muscle mass not to 185 but for better cardio.

Guys…carrying muscle mass does NOT adversely affect cardio. Soku simply needs more cardio work, and can do so while retaining the muscle his frame holds if he trains intelligently. Want an example…..Sherk carries as much muscle pds/per inches height as Soku does…..and is known as a cardio machine.

We’ve only seen power from Sok. Besides that he showed questionable clinch game, sub par ground game, not technical striking, and no use of his judo either. Machida made him look foolish with all kinds of trips. Only his big wins are the reason why people still have high hopes for him. Fighting Babalu is not helping him expand his game regardless of how good a matchup it is.

“carrying muscle mass does NOT adversely affect cardio”

Actually, it does. Muscles need oxygen, and the more muscle you have, the more oxygen needs to be pumped throughout your body. Sherk is an exception, not the rule. Endurance athletes in general (there’s probably exceptions) have very little muscle mass. Look at marathon runner, triathletes, etc. MMA athletes are bigger b/c you need a balance b/w endurance and short-burst performance. Soko is a little too big (in terms of muscle composition) IMO. He has great short bursts, but not nearly enough cardio.

Word. I used to walk around at 210-215. Carrying lots of ‘bulky’ muscle, but I also had endurance, it’s VERY tough to balance. Two-a-days EVERYDAY.
Which is why so many guys turn to supplements/ steroids.
I stopped lifting weights/ power lifting and now carry ‘lean muscle’ and have even more increased stamina.
So my body now looks like- a little more muscular Spider Silva’s vs. before I looked like Soko, but 210 lbs.

babalu also got thrashed by bitch-tits lambert, got arrested for assault at some casino in fla, i believe, and bragged about holding the choke too long. it was a series of things that got him the boot. plus he got owned by chuck twice. he doesn’t seem capable of being the ufc champ ever anymore. he’s still a big name and fits right in with strikeforce/Affliction.

Name not required, Soko had his fair share of trips in there with Machida, he did a nice little Judo trip to take Machida down once, even though it didn’t amount to anything, he held his own with the clinch/stand up grappling, the difference is what they both did once they got to the ground. I say Soko beats Babalu. He had 2 rough fights and HAS to know by now what he needs to work on. I think he’ll come in prepared like never before.

I hope you’re right Anomaly. Babalu only needs one good TD because once on the ground he plays a much tighter BJJ game than Machida. Sok has good enough defensive wrestling to stuff babalu’s usually reckless shots. But IMO Babalu’s experience will allow him to get around his brute strength. Sok still hasn’t had the time to adapt his judo for MMA.

thats how I see it too…Tito goes into the ring, words are exchanged, Affliction lives for a 3rd card

Comment by kevin
2008-12-18 13:14:24

nope! I’m not doubting that happens, and I think Babalu/Tito is a great match up, but affliction s done after this card! I just don’t see what’s next for them? they would have to wait 3 months so their stable of fighters (which is regurgitated) are ready to fight, so there next show would be around the time of UFC100…yeah right!

i thought soko could take cane but i knew cane had an equal chance with striking. babalu looked terrible against southworth. that being said i no babalu wont outstrike soko but soko will probably gas fast so its either soko by knockout within the first round of babalu by submission. ill take soko

I dont see alot of Sokou love. He is young and has a ton of speed and power. Plenty of time to develop. I like Babalu, but I have a feeling that Sokou is gonna catch him with a nasty knockout. Watch and see
