It was a far cry from the brutal UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops" show, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today released the medical suspensions for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 Finale on December 13 from "The Pearl" at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas
Light heavyweight winner Ryan Bader is perhaps the most surprising fighter to make the list because of his quick finish of Vinny Magalhaes. He apparently busted up his hand that sent the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist crashing to the canvas early in round one with a glancing blow.
Unsurprisingly, Kevin Burns is a little banged up after eating an Anthony Johnson ankle and going night-night.
The good news is that none of the injuries appear to be too serious.
Here are the complete the injuries and the medical instructions from TUF 8 Finale:
Ryan Bader -- "Darth" must have his right hand x-rayed and receive medical clearance from a physician otherwise he will not allowed to have contact until June 9, 2009.
Vinny Magalhaes -- Suspended until January 14 and no contact until January 5, 2009.
Jason Macdonald -- "The Athlete" is suspended because of a forehead laceration and is suspended until January 14 and no contact until January 5, 2009.
Kevin Burns -- He received a minimum suspension until February 9, 2009, because of a left orbital fracture and possible left ankle fracture. He is not allowed to have contact until January 25 and must receive medical clearance from a physician otherwise he will not allowed to compete until June 9.
David Kaplan -- He is suspended until January 25 and no contact until January 14, 2009, because of multiple lacerations around his right eye.
Shane Primm -- He received a minimum suspension until January 14, 2009, because of a left shoulder injury that requires and MRI. He is not allowed to have contact until January 5 and must receive medical clearance from a physician otherwise he will not allowed to compete until June 9.
Jules Bruchez -- He is suspended until January 14 and no contact until January 5, 2009, because of a laceration under his left eye.
Tom Lawlor -- He received a minimum suspension until January 25, 2009, because of a left hand injury that requires and x-ray. He is not allowed to have contact until January 14 and must receive medical clearance from a physician otherwise he will not allowed to compete until June 9.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
