UFC Fight Night 16: “Fight for the Troops” from the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina, has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $30,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 20 fighters on the card. And it shouldn’t come as a shock whose wallets are leaving Fort Bragg a little heavier.

In addition to their base salaries, the UFC awarded lightweight scrappers Jim Miller and Matt Wiman for their gritty three-round 155-pound war. It was a dominant performance by Miller but hardly a topic of discussion after the brutality that followed it.

Former WEC light heavyweight champ Steve Cantwell locked up a bonus right along with the arm of Razak Al-Hassan. If there was an award for biggest set of testicles, it would surely go to the Iowa native for refusing to tap despite having his arm folded together like a Sensu.

Here are the special fight bonuses for “Fight for the Troops:”

Fight of the Night : Jim Miller vs. Matt Wiman
Submission of the Night : Steve Cantwell
Knockout of the Night : Josh Koscheck

Again, each fighter received $30,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along if possible.

It’s good to see Koscheck going green. He’s always had the respect from his peers when it came to wrestling, but tonight I think he proved once and for all that he can knock you senseless if you give him the opportunity.

Now it’s time for the AKA standout to enjoy his well-deserved time off and start thinking about another title run in 2009. If he continues to fight like he did tonight, it may only be a matter of time.

How can Cantwell win sub of the night when it was ruled a TKO?

I fell asleep right before the main event (was way to baked).
I missed the Kos fight… Oh well, I dont like seeing him win anyway!

That was by far one of the more gruesome armbars in the history of the UFC.

I knew Jim Miller was a stud and ready for the UFC but taking a fight on like 10 days notice after Thanksgiving and after his wedding, I did NOT expect him to look as impressive as he did for the full 15 minutes. Wiman had NO answer.

Koscheck’s right hand stole $30K right out of Ben Saunders’s pocket. NASTY muay thai clinch. I loved it! That dude’s entire forehead was one massive lump.

John, was there any finish even close to a submission though? Besides the verbal tap in the Creuder fight?

Steve Bruno submitted Johnny Rees with a guillotine. Cantwell’s finish was far more impressive, but I didn’t want to see him win Submission of the Night just because he was such a douche in the post fight interview.

Told you about Swick, John. Are you going to give him another chance now? What a crazy night. F’ing Koscheck, I knew he was going to win just by the look in his eyes walking in. It is really amazing how that works sometimes. Yoshida did not have that killer look at all and got KTFO bad. And Wiman was a big surprise, he got absolutly worked I wonder if that was an off night or Miller is just that good?

The Saunders fight was the fight of the night hands down. It wasnt close but niether was the one they gave it to so why not give it to saunders for one of the most brutal beatdowns ever seen in the octagon.

HONESTLY that Razak Al-Hassan is a fucking idiot- that actually made me sick watching his arm break. good fights on the card though.. but MAN what was he thinking .. mania do u know if his shoulder popped out also cuz when he rolled it didnt’ look right just before the break… he’s wishing he tapped now, i don’t think we’ll see him again in the UFC not atleast for a long LONG time

matt wiman doesnt deserve a bonus… he laid on his back and made no attempt at submissions or attempts to stand up, he had no heart in this fight besides getting out of the choke in the early minutes of the fight and basically laid there and got beat up the whole fight… loser of the night bonus maybe

Koscheck proved once again that he is a world class arse hole – from not touching gloves at the start of the fight to promoting his “new clothing line” in the post fight interview. Did he forget that the night wasn’t supposed to be about his self righteous b.s.? What a tool…

Yoshida was begging to be KO’d the way he was holding his head way up and sticking out without his chin down and standing too still…I knew after I saw him standing that way that he was going to lose by KO, especially the way Kos throws those wild rights with bad intentions. I was expecting a much longer drawn out fight, but I won’t complain about a KO. I thought this card turned out great! I cannot complain for a free card and a good cause plus the card was more exciting than expected!

RP casino’s backer in financial trouble
By Jay Gamel- Argus-Courier
Financial reports have been coming fast and furious the last few weeks and all saying that Station Casinos, the deep pockets behind the proposed Rohnert Park casino, is in deep financial trouble.

The once-publicly owned gaming mega-investor is over $5 billion in debt and may not be able to make required payments by Dec. 31. That could force it into bankruptcy.

The company’s woes could delay the project by several years and could allow time for an advisory measure to be placed on the ballot next year so county voters can state whether they support or oppose the casino.

Station Casinos asked its debtors on Nov. 25 to exchange their outstanding notes, paying from 6 percent to 7 percent, for smaller notes paying 10 percent interest, which would lower the company debt load and interest payments considerably.
The whole exchange will fail if 60 percent of the debt holders don’t go for it by Friday, Dec. 5.

Christopher Snow, an analyst with Credit Sights in New York, and an expert on Station Casinos’ finances, said the company is in big trouble in the present economy.

“Even if they manage to get their own house in order, they are not going to get financing to build new casinos,” Snow said Tuesday. “I don’t see that project getting off the ground until there is a significant improvement in the markets,” referring to the Rohnert Park casino.

Both Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s, credit rating services, have downgraded Station Casinos’ credit worthiness after the company sought to exchange its current debt for new, offering smaller amounts of debt at higher interest rates. This type of exchange will lower debt and interest payments, but is seen as a desperate move by financial analysts.

Standard & Poor rated Station Casinos Inc. “B-Watch Negative” on Tuesday on the heels of lowering the company’s unsecured senior debt rating to single C on Nov. 26, down from a triple CCC. This reflects on the company’s ability to service debt within a year’s time.
In the same vein, Moody’s Investors Service downgraded Station Casinos’ probability of default after the company announced it was seeking a private debt exchange.

Moody’s analysts wrote there is a “high probability” Station Casinos will go bankrupt if the debt exchange doesn’t happen.

So far, there’s no rescue in sight, which is good news for those who do not want a casino built in Rohnert Park.

“If (Station Casinos) were to drop out of the project, then Graton Rancheria would have to find another partner, which means the environmental review would have to go back to the beginning,” said Marilee Montgomery, a spokesperson for Stop the Casino 101, a Rohnert Park-based group opposed to the development. “The EIR process is all about approval of the management contract.”

Montgomery acknowledges that losing its financial partner may only delay the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria from building a casino until happier financial times, but it would be years before the project gets back on track.
The land bought by Station Casinos was accepted as sovereign tribal territory on May 7 this year and foes filed suit in Federal District Court on June 6 to stop the transfer. There has been little movement on the case.

There is also the possibility of a county-wide referendum next year on the project, though it would not be binding on federal authorities. Voters statewide will be asked to approve a plan on June 5 to sell future lottery revenues as bonds. Counties have until March 5 to add their own measures to the ballot. A majority of the Board of Supervisors will be required to put a casino referendum on the ballot.

In September, Stop the Casino 101 sent a message to all candidates in the race for Sonoma County supervisor seats in the Nov. 4 election, asking that they pledge to place a county-wide advisory measure regarding the casino on the ballot in an upcoming election.

So far, only Shirley Zane, supervisor-elect of the 3rd District, has promised to support the referendum. Mike Kerns, who represents the 2nd District, has indicated support for an advisory measure in the past, but was not available for comment this week.

Earlier this year, Kerns brought the issue to the Board of Supervisors, and board member Mike Reilly expressed support for an advisory measure, but no action was taken because another vote from among the remaining three supervisors was necessary for passage.

People opposed to the casino say its massive size — some 760,000 square feet of casino and a 12-story hotel — will clog already crowded roads and severely strain local water supplies.

Neither Station Casinos nor the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria responded to calls.

not only that it has ZERO bearing on the ufc or mma at all. stations could go bankrupt, go out of business completely, and it would have no effect on the ufc. they are 2 seperate entities and the ufc can support itself with no help from them. they, the ufc have been self supporting for a long time now. they just updated the ufc91 ppv buys to 1.1 million, so zuffa is thriving! you guys are right, this should have been moderated b/c it isnt mma related at all and the poster definitely has ulterior motives. like he actually cares about stations financial woes. he hopes it means the ufc’s failure, which aint gonna happen EVER!

I’m sure Swick was glad to see Koscheck also get a win, but disappointed that his knockout stole ‘Knockout of the Night’ from him. I don’t think Cantwell should have been eligible for ‘Submission of the Night’ because they declared his win a TKO because Al-Hassan never tapped.

Submission of the Night : Steve Cantwell……two reasons this should not have been eligible:

1) The guy did not tap….ref stoppage for sure
2) He felt really good about busting up the arm like that. He said he wanted to do that for a really long time. What type of message is UFC sending by rewarding him for it.

I am not saying that he is not talented, just that it was uncool of him to snap it in half. Then again, the message ‘tap or snap’ has to be sent every once in a while.

No for sub of the night.
