Corey Hill — the lanky and likable contestant from season five of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — sustained a catastrophic leg injury during his fight against Dale Hartt at UFC Fight Night 16: “Fight for the Troops” last night at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Hartt apparently checked a leg kick from Hill early in the second round, which snapped the 6′4″ Miletich-trained fighter’s shin. It is a terribly graphic and unfortunate injury that will more than likely keep him sidelined for a very long time.

We wish him a speedy and full recovery.

Hill stopped Joe Veres via technical knockout in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 12 back in January. He dropped his next fight against Justin Buchholz at UFC 86 on July 5.

We’ll provide and update on Hill’s health as soon as possible. For the rest of the “Fight for the Troops” results click here and here.

if u go back and watch the fight~

hill doesnt even know his leg was broken..

when the ref is finally stoping the fight[after rogan told him to]

cory is looking up at the ref asking him why he is stoping the fight.

he looks all confused until he looks at his leg.

i really thought mirko would be wanting a better fight.

hunt vs lebanner will be awesome..

huerta should not be fighting spencer fisher.

it seems like the ufc wants to let roger ride the easy

street until they hit mexico.

Since when is Spencer Fish an easy fight. If I remember correctly he is one of the only people to beat Thiago Alves, no easy street. But we may finally get fight of the night, I am still waiting for that fight since Dana announced it against Kalib Florian, sorry Kenny Florian.

Hong Man Choi vs Cro Cop – is it a K1 rules match or MMA rules? The only difference really being the time limit and size of the gloves – I don’t see a takedown happening in that fight unless Cro Cop is REALLY catching the worst of it standing.

UNFORTUNATELY IT ENDED THE GUYS CAREER..I TALKED TO DALE AFTERWARDS AND HE FELT PRETTY BAD ABOUT IT. HE SUFFERED AN INJURY HIMSELF BUT ONLY WITH A SMALL LIMP.HE WENT TO GO SEE HIM IN THE HOSPITAL RIGHT BEFORE HIS LAST SURGERY AND HE SAID THE HILL WAS IN GOOD SPIRITS. BUT AS WE ALL KNOW A WIN IS A WIN AND HE DIDNT FEEL BAD ABOUT THAT. THAT IS A TRUE TESTIMENT TO THE POWER OF MUAY THAI, IVE CHECKED THE LEG LIKE THAT MANY TIMES IN A FIGHT AND I KNOW HOW MUCH IT CAN HURT BOTH PARTIES..ITS WHOS MORE CONDITIONED IN THE END.

yeah have you ever noticed how many “highlights” are of nasty injuries or fights involving non-combat sports? There would be an amazing against the wall catch but the sports media will replay the bench clearing brawl. At least with mma we’re aware of what we want to see. But not that break, no no not that.

I just watched it on the UFC website. Insane. Hats off to Dale Hartt and Joe Rogan for their show of class in the post fight interview. Corey Hill is a good guy, and I’m sure he’ll be back after a lengthy recovery. The fight was actually pretty entertaining otherwise. Corey Hill has really evolved since TUF 5, which is why it it sucks that he’s in this position now.

if he’s ever going to fight again, he’s going to need to go up in weight. At least to the middleweight division. He just can’t be that thin and expect to be able to kick again. He’s going to need to put on mass.

Comment by sycboi

I’m pretty much the same 6′4″ weigh about 160. I’m very lucky in that my legs are naturally more muscular than my torso. It is very hard to gain size on your legs when your this tall/skinny. i wouldn’t be surprised if Corey couldn’t gain enough mass to fight at MW.

For someone’s bone to break from kicking someone, their bones have to be very weak. I would get him tested for bone cancer immediately. Yeah, he’s very thin, but bones and being thin have nothing to do with one another. His bones are obviously brittle and a common cause of that is cancer. Wait and see.

Yeah. Not to be negative but I think that is the last time Hill will fight.

Even IF his leg heals properly (Big if) he is just to slightly boned to compete.

No matter how well it heals his leg is still going to be a little gimpy, which will hinder his cardio and mobility, along with his durability and everything else.

I’ve seen breaks like this in Muay Thai and the fighters’ careers were over.

Get well soon Corey.

Man i watched this fight, it was going good until the breakage, awful shame, probably end his career and prevent him from having a day job for some time althou i really hope he recovers good enough to continue his career.

big credit to the excellent jo rogan for noticing it imediately and standing and shout at the top of his voice “stop the fight” it might have carried on if he did not.

on the replay in slow motion his leg wrapped around the other like rope, freaking horrible, it has mentally scarred me really especially because of the slow motion replay, worst injury i have seen yet in ufc and i’ve seen em all, i have seen this happen once before thou in a thai boxing match, it seems a pretty rare injury resulting from a perfect leg kick check, well a combination of that and an imperfect kick, i guess that can happen pretty easily if you get careless.

jason moore it is on usenet file name “UFC.Fight.For.The.Troops.Un-Aired.Prelims.XviD.IceMan” trust me thou it is horrible and will probably stay in your memory like it will mine.

This is the only picture I’ve seen of the event – and didn’t see it live. Is this an actual picture? It looks photoshopped, so I assumed it had been to show with the story rather than showing a pic of the actual break. If it is a real pick, the break is so freakish, it’s almost cartoonish. Damn. To a speedy return for Cory.
