Quoteworthy:

“It was a good performance but I see some weak spots in Brock’s game plan. Although I think he is a very interesting opponent, I’m looking forward to see more of Brock’s fights and seeing him develop more…. Yes, and I do see myself defeating Brock Lesnar.”

Add the “Demolition Man” to the long list of mixed martial arts veterans who feel confident about their chances against UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. The Dutch fighter has looked solid of late, winning four straight consecutive bouts and — before smashing his balls — was putting it to Mirko Cro Cop at DREAM 6 in September. Overeem has been in against some of the best in the business throughout his career, which would give him a huge experience advantage if he were to ever tangle with Lesnar …. but don’t hold your breath — it’s highly unlikely anytime soon.

He may be a trash talker but he’s got some excellent standup also got a giant wingspan like brock and an awesome guillotine. I actually think he would stand a chance if he had a better chin.

overreem is a monster now I could see him beating brock for sure and yes hes got a few slick submissions with huge devesatating knees in the clinch and im not talking about the illegal blows to cro cop

he basically made buentello quit with knees to the midsection

Give me a break! Alistar’s submission game is basic/ All he has in his arsenal is a guillotine and a kimura, white belt stuff!

He is however leathel in the stand up. He is one of my favorite muy tai figters in mma!

Brock would just maul hiM!

Speaking of Muy Tai, I would give my left nut to see Buakaw por Pramuk try is hand in mma, but he doesnt even like mma, so NO CHANCE!

I hear Overeem also sees himself becoming the next Secretary-General of the United Nations, being the first man to walk on Mars, finding a cure for cancer, and tapping Gina Carano’s ass.

This guy is a loudmouth who has never beaten anyone good – and don’t give me any crap his submitting Mark Hunt. The average MMAMania poster has enough submission acumen to submit Mark Hunt.

I thought the Crocop cup shots were highly exaggerated. Overeem looks solid after all the juice and should make his way into the UFC.

Comment by stevo
2008-11-28 11:57:51

What exactly were exaggerated about the cup shots? They were hard, illegal shots and the replay confirmed it. And they do a lot of damage, hence the reason they are illegal.

Comment by MMACrossfire
2008-11-28 22:27:07

stevo — Yeah, I thought it was low when Overeem said afterward, “Ppphhht, I mean he was wearing a cup!” Or something like that.

I’m sure there’s a lot fo fighters that could beat Brock Lesnar, his three MMA wins are against some Korean can, Heath Herring (who happens to be kinda can-ish), and Randy Couture. I’m surprised he’s ranked in the top 5 by many sites (even Inside MMA) after only 4 MMA matches.

Overeem would KO Lesnar with a vicious knee to the head while Lesnar is attempting a takedown.

I don’t like Overeem, but I think he would beat Lesnar right now. In a couple years, probably not….but if they fought today, Overeem would lay a beating on him. Brock only seems to finish guys after he rocks them with that right hand, and I just couldn’t imagine Brock hitting Overeem with it…Overeem would school Brock in stand-up.

Overeem by KO….until the piss test results are in and the results are possibly changed to a no contest.

A rematch against Chuck at heavyweight this time would be intriguing, if Chuck gets past Randy.

Overeem is younger than Brock with a lot of experience. You don’t think he’s going to get a lot better as a heavyweight. Brock can train night and day for the next 5 years and not get the striking, and submission skills Overeem has already.

Comment by MMACrossfire
2008-11-28 22:34:41

shatner — Think you have it backward. Overeem will get marginally better, if that. Lesnar will improve leaps and bounds. He doesn’t need to have Overeem’s game, only his own improved game to win. Don’t forget, solid jits defense is still jits.

Brock would run threw him now and in a few years. When are people going to give him the respect he is due.He was destroying Mir,beat the crap out of Herring, and Randy.Overeem and Cro cop have a rivalry, and he had to knee his nuts in that fight, and everybody has seen what Cro cop would do in the UFC,so I would say the same would go for Overeem. Also if he is such a great striker ,then why could he not stop hitting Cro cop nuts.Either he is not that accurate or he is just a cheater.

Who the hell doesn’t see weak spots in Lesnars game?
This is not friggan rocket science, Lesnar is just to big, the only thing that may take him out is a huge striker, or Frank Mir, lol. I think he may be to much for Fedor although Fedor has took out some giants, but lets face it Brock is a totally different kind of giant, Lesnar has power that can defend a lot of submissions by smaller fighters that’s why there should be a cruiser weight division although its cool there isn’t, the UFC heavy weight division is a close to an open weight division as there is that I know of. I wish more light heavy fighters would move up to make these super fights. One thing I know is Shane Carwin has got Brocks number I think, that guy is a beast. Anyone hear anything on how Lashley looks? That’s one huge bother.

Comment by MMACrossfire
2008-11-28 22:45:02

TysonLeeHarris — I imagine Fedor would do his ol’ surprise attack overwhelm-the-opponent flurry of punches to the side of the head. He just swarms. Lesnar would no doubt train for that exact scenario, because it’s Fedor’s bread and butter. I’ve love to see that fight. Hope it happens someday. Man, watch all the heavyweights out there start taking numbers and standing in line.

I bet there’s many out there that can beat Brock… I mean he only got 2 years of MMA training and 4 fights with 3 wins.

Alistair on the other hand have 40 MMA fights with 29 wins, he have been fighting as an MMA pro for 10 years!

Since Randy got taken down it would’ve been cool to see Alistair defend the takedowns.

Alistair is after Brock’s Man Sack… he must learn how to throw those knees.
