I’m reading a lot of “randy looked old” and “randy looked awful” comments, and just don’t get it. He controlled and out wrestled a man who was 60 pounds heavier than him and touted as a wrestling stud. He got caught, plain and simple. Now EVERYBODY knew Randy’s chin was suspect, right? This leaves the what’s next for Randy question. Fedor? I’m not interested! Light heavy weight? Who could he beat without getting ko’d??? rashad…maybe! Randy only wants big fights, which disqualifies any return to HW short of nog! Maybe is Shogun beats coleman, feed him Randy, thats the best I can do!
Now on to Brock, this animal wrestler that KO’d Randy. His striking looked improved, he actually got love handles and back fat that he never had in WWE, but he’s a beast. I can see him dominating guys for a long time, and he’s hungry! This isn’t a game to him or a money maker, he likes to fight! I was equally impressed by the post match humbleness he showed towards the sport and Randy alike! He’s a cocky, arrogant master of selling a fight (kinda an old Tito). I guarantee you if (and thats a huge if) he beats nog/mir, in the post fight interview with Rogan, will call out Fedor. It will be brash and disrespectful, but will be the single thing to lure Fedor into the UFC! It will also be the Biggest PPV of all time. At this point, Fedor will destroy Brock, but in 18 months, with more training, it will be a good fight that Brock has a chance to win!
I agree, Randy looked good in that fight, after the second round I was sitting there saying to myself “Holys***” he’s gonna do it again. But low and behold Brock caught him. I think Couture could still be very competitive at lhw or hw, and after seeing him out wrestle Brock I don’t know who in the LHW division could possibly stop Couture from dictating the pace of the fight and where it took place. IMO Randy’s still a factor in whichever division he wants to fight at. I’m hoping for Randy vs Mir assuming Nog takes it (and I’m pretty sure he will).
i agree, randy is still a factor, i didnt like his fight plan though, i think circling to lesnars left and leg kicks for the first 3 min,s of each round, then clinch, stay away from those lunch box hands at all cost, lesnar will become fatigued, to much muscle to feed, also he is small in the legs, extremley top heavy. let big nog at him he has a chin of granite and his pace is constant thru out, nog by arm bar third round
HOnestly, the only reason that Randy looked good early on was because Brock was so freaking nervous. It was all over his face. Oncxe Brock got comfortable, Randy was out classed!
I have no idea whats next for Randy, like Kevin pointed out, Randy only wants Big fights. Problem with that is that Dana keeps chasing away the top Heavyweights from the UFC. For example: Randy vs. Arlovski would be awesome. Its a damn shame that the pitbull was in the UFC for 7 years and this fight was never booked.
Randy’s fight game looked up tro par, but physically he looked like a shriveled up old raisin. The 15 month lay off couldnt have helped either.
Only Big Fight left for Randy at heavyweight in the UFC is against Nog, and that can only happen if Nog looses to Brock, which will not happen!
Brock is the FUTURE, no doubt about it, but slow down with all the Brock vs. Fedor talk. They are the same age, thus Brock will never be able to catch up to the Russian. Face it boys, we will never see Fedor loose a fight! Get over it, sit back and enjoy Greatness!
been waiting for this quote, it bothers me. “we will never see Fedor lose a fight,” we already have. I don’t care if it were an illegal elbow, brass knuckles or a choke slam, he lost! get over it guys.
you’re right, Brock isn’t ready for Fedor right now, but in 12 months, if he beats nog. he will call him out, mark my words! Fedor will have no choice but to accept. Brock isn’t randy, he’ll go all over the world calling Fedor out!

kEVIN, FOR SOMEONE with so much mma knowledge. You sound every time you talk about Fedor.
If mma ended today, would he not go down as the greatest fighter of all time? Say NO, and I will never respect one of your posts againZ!

He lost a sambo competition. Its very different from a fight. Sambo you fight like 10 times in 1 day, VERY different from a fight. U sound really petty trying to grasp at straws looking for new ways to Hate on JOrdan!

john: Granted Brock was definatley nervous in the first round, but it’s still pretty damn impressive how Couture handled him in the clinch and handled him from the bottom position. I really didn’t see Brock out class Randy, even in the 2nd round Couture was controlling Brock in the clinch and he stuffed a takedown as well. It was that damn lunchbox fist they keep talking about that finally connected and ended the fight, other than that I saw Couture as the more skilled fighter in almost every area.
Also, I don’t know about anybody else, but from what I saw, Couture was making Brock look very very beatable, I mean for being 220 lbs he gave the big guy a pretty tough time in there. I could definatley see a fighter like Kongo or AA connecting for a viscious KO on Brock if they went toe to toe like he did with Randy. If Mir somehow beats Nog I see Brock retaining the title otherwise, it’s Nog vs Brock and Nog takes it; and imo they should match up Randy vs Mir at that point.
john, I’m a fedor fan, but even you can’t say he’s in top form over the last 3 years

I thought i was gonna be one of the few bashing couture’s performance and hyping Nog. But I was very impressed. Couture definitely has some left in him. As far as lesnar, the first round was just nerves. Also people need to stop saying if Mir beats Nog. He won’t so get over it.

Good posts, COUTURE should stay at HVWT, fight the loser of NOG VS MIR. If COUTURE wins, can fight the other. I think everyone stills will want to see at least a NOG VS COUTURE, and I wouldn’t mind seeing COUTURE VS MIR either, as long as MIR gives a good performance ‘gainst NOG fight.
LOL… ‘yeah I BET MIR wants to see COUTURE drop to 205 LBS!
Throw GONZAGA in the mix and let these guys circle the hvwt belt, while adding new comers to the mix.
COUTURE’s body did seem a little softer but he still held his own and then some in the 1ST ROUND with BROCK.. if COUTURE doesn’t do well in his next HVWT bout, then drop to 205 lbs.

JOHN, any Red Meat missing from COUTURE’S DIET? cause he’s not taking steroids. Probably just age caught up to his body a bit. COUTURE looked ‘good’ but not in comparision to 2007 when Couture last got on the scales. I still imagine he can build his body back up to 225 solid with the right diet and supplements, and he will still be good to go, there’s definitely mileage left in that gas tank. I’m curious to see COUTURE make 1 more outing at HVWT at least!
FEDOR can comfortably stay out of the UFC and fight Arlovski, Barnett for now, we should see him fight somebody quality & intriguing at least 2 times a year, otherwise come to the UFC. White needs to be quiet and stop calling out FEDOR, it doesn’t help, let BROCK do that…lol. is FEDORS SAMBO match available somewhere?
I know a lot of MMA purist like fights in a Ring, personally I like a Cage… any chance Affliction n’ Fedor fight in a Cage?? It could draw more MMA fans.
i agree with alot of what you said, i do think randy was winning the fight till he got caught, i don’t know if he has a weak chin he had never been knocked out till chuck and had not been knocked out again till lesnar i think lesnar could knock out about anyone if he lands to the head dosn’t even have to be the chin or temple, we should remember randy beat every top lhw at the time and only lost to chuck when he retired he was still the 2nd best lhw( i know that was awhile ago), what should he do? i don’t know maybe 2 more big name fights and call it a day as long as he dosn’t take to bad of a beating.
agreed with everything besides your Rashad comment, although not a big Rashad fan but for a guy people don’t consider a big puncher he has two of the most devastating ko’s in MMA. Again Rashad is the Roy Jones(younger version) of MMA. He will bore you at times, then at other times he will knock somebody’s head off.
I don’t have a problem with Mir as a commentator. He is knowledgeable and articulate and I think he adds value to the analysis. I don’t like him as a fighter because he is arrogant and disrespectful (particularly toward Nogueira), but as a commentator he’s fine. But I do agree with you that McNeil doesn’t add anything and should definitely be replaced.
I could listen to Mir all day. The guy is a natural with the microphone. He is knowledgeable and articulate, which goes a long way in broadcasting. As far as his disrespect of Nog, I really think it’s nothing more than building the fight between them. He came right out and said there is no better HW on the ground than Nog.
I think its worse when he sticks his ugly mug right in the Camera after a win, thats probably the only thing I can’t stand about Gonzaga, other than that he seems like a pretty good guy.
I really like this show. The format requires quick and to-the-point commentary. Franklin McNeil is the only weak link. Lose him and the show gets even 100% better. This new fight wrap-up episode lends itself to post-conference commentary by the fighters/trainers/Dana. I like it.
Hell yea, give him a can to fight; Fedor style for a change, the guy needs a break. Feed him Coleman; lol. Actually with Chuck slipping up a bit I think it’s time to give Randy a chance to even the score lol.
He’s great for the sport, he’s a big solid guy at 265 lbs, the guy isn’t flabby he’s in great shape. He’s a true HW, and not many of them are around. Can only hope to get some more big guys in there like him and Carwin that are solid at 265 and athletic, then I think we’ll start seeing some really spectacular HW fights.
I just want to say it’s great to see this coverage. Thanks to ESPN for stepping up. I love Football and watch shows like NFL Live all the time, it’s cool to see this and get similar feelings. I hope there is more in the future. MMA for a long time….
great coverage for sure I look forward to mma live every thurs night on mania.
The post fight interviews are always the best because fighters get annoyed with the same type of questions over and over again before the fight they give short answers that alot of times are misleading because they dont want to give away any stategies but….
after the fight they are calm with natural endorphines being released from the fight there answers are much more honest post fight interviews are always real
i got too bored watching ya’ll bicker over fedor to continue reading….
did anyone notice the class that was shown in that coverage? can you imagine trying to get boxers to sit down and talk about the fight one just had? especially when the fighter of the night had already LOST to the guy interviewing him, AND could very well fight him again next?

bonnar is a natural. they should give mir and mcneil the boot, and replace them with stephan, and someone younger and more knowledgable.
McNeil needs to go. That guy doesn’t know anything about mma or any synonyms for “tremendous.” Mir is alright but a camera hog.
I don’t have a problem with Mir as a commentator. He is knowledgeable and articulate and I think he adds value to the analysis. GG’s english is probably even worse then Wanderlei’s, cmon give the man a translator allready.
yeah, I liked it better when he didn’t speak on camera! It’s bad!
I think its worse when he sticks his ugly mug right in the Camera after a win, thats probably the only thing I can’t stand about Gonzaga, other than that he seems like a pretty good guy.

not sure why, but when mir talks it annoys me. as much as id like to see a lesnar/mir rematch, i hope noguiera gives him the business
maybe its because you have sort of grudge against Mir for no reason?
It’s generally accepted that Mir is a douche. One with exceptional fight analysis but a douche nonetheless.
RANDY SHOULD GO TO 205
Hell yea, give him a can to fight; Fedor style for a change, the guy needs a break. Feed him Coleman; lol. Actually with Chuck slipping up a bit I think it’s time to give Randy a chance to even the score lol.
What do you guys say?
Is champion Lesner good or bad for the sport?
He’s great for the sport, he’s a big solid guy at 265 lbs, the guy isn’t flabby he’s in great shape. He’s a true HW, and not many of them are around.
