Quoteworthy:

“Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight competitor, Hermes Franca, was arrested last night by the Jupiter Police Department in Jupiter, Fla for a DUI offense … According to the report, Franca was arrested at 2:38am by an officer who suspected the fighter was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

It’s been a seesaw ride for the former UFC 155-pound number contender Hermes Franca the last 18 months. He recently returned from a 12-month steroids suspension, losing to Frank Edgar in his July comeback fight and then rebounding against his former Brazilian jiu-jitsu teacher Marcus Aurelio at UFC 90: “Silva vs. Cote” just last month. Now this. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Jupiter is not all that far from where I live. They don’t mess around much with dui, they can be really strict.

Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow should have huge games as long as Quinn plays well. Denver’s D sucks bad. I got Cleveland too.

I usually like watching him fight, but I was really disappointed in his fight against Frankie Edgar. I expected him to be able to use his BJJ more effectively against a young and relatively inexperienced fighter. Either way, with the steroids and now this he needs to take a step back and get his head on straight.

Jon, I actually have a perfect driving record, no tickets or drunk-driving. So much for presumptions over the internet, eh?? I’m sure there’s noone around to laugh with you anyway.

“Psyqo” it’s patronizing to insinuate that I don’t care about drunk-driving with no proof what-so-ever. I have had someone close killed by drunk driving, and they were the victim. I just hope JRK takes his pity-party elsewhere b/c MMA forums are for MMA, not for capping on someone’s dignity toward un-related subjects.

I don’t think that everything that happens in professional athletes lives should be open to the public. However, what happens in their lives still has a large impact on their careers. Just look at Paulo Filho: while his depression and outside issues may have been ‘none our business’ if I had wanted to bet on him based on his previous fights I would have been misled because his issues clearly have caused a severe decrease in his performance. A fan or analyst trying to break a fight down beforehand would be naive to not take into account any outside issues affecting a fighter before a fight.
