“There are a couple things you can’t really teach. One is being able to take a shot, two is having that knockout power. You can teach a guy technique until you’re blue in face, and he’ll never have that knockout power. Other guys will throw the sloppiest punch ever, and people fall down. It’s just an ability you’re blessed with.”

– Chris Leben tells NBCSports.com that he has been blessed with the gift of knockout power — a God-given talent that he suggests his opponent at UFC 89: “Bisping vs. Leben” on October 18, Michael Bisping, lacks. In 22 professional mixed martial arts bouts “The Crippler” has 10 (technical) knockouts.

Not a very modest guy lately.

So Leben’s saying the (only) 2 things he’s good at (swinging for the fence and getting hit in the jaw) are nothing to do with training or technique but luck that he was born that way.

Looks stupid, sounds stupid is stupid.

And what you wrote is stupid. The two things he was talking about are exactly what he said, things you can’t teach. He trains hard, and has good technique, but there are a F’IN LOT of fighters who would pay DEARLY to have his ability to take a punch and have 1 punch KO power. You guys are just reading into this statement too much.

Hopefully he isn’t conceding to the first point maybe He hasn’t seen the Anderson Silva fight lately…

True but he does have a vicious left hook.

Well against Cote his chin held up fine for the whole 15. I doubt Bisping can swing a fraction of Cote throws.

It doent matter who you are. if Anderson Silva hits you, your going down. If Silva were to hit Cabbage he would knock him out. Leben can take a shot.

It doesn’t matter who you are, if your clipped on the button your going out. You can take a shot on the Temple an go out, your jaw only needs to be open a fraction or take a hit behind the hear and it’s good night. circumstance can be mare than the punch sometimes, stepping on to a punch when closing the distance can effect the power of the hit.

I wouldnt go as far to say i have knockout power. i mean ii have knocked people out, but i dont think i was born with knockout power. I sure can take one hell of a punch though.

Leben drops Bisping within 2 minutes! I don’t care for either one of them! But, this is my prediction!

The pond jump (Leben in this case) will drop the orgional pond jumping Brit (Bisping) late in the first, after he blocks about two dozen of Bisping’s punches with his face. My only concern is that Bisping might break his hand punching Leben’s big dome so many times trying to get Leben to slow his attack.
Dude has the hardest jaw in the UFC (not counting the Silva fight).

Leben’s been knocked out. Bisping has NEVER been knocked out.

But everybody thinks Leben has a better chin than Bisping. WHY?

Comment by belfort_fan
2008-10-11 15:33:41

WHY??? Because he does have a far better chin than Bisping. The only reason Bisping hasent been knocked out is cause he hasent fought Anderson Silva!!!! Retard!!

Leben has been knocked out once in his career, and it was by Anderson Silva. Bisping has never been knocked out, but he has not faced the same level of competition that Leben has. Leben has also fought many great strikers (with the exception of the Silva fight) without being knocked out. If you recall from TUF, Bisping was even rocked briefly in his fight with Ross Pointon, who barely cracks the top 1000. I don’t think Bisping as as good a chin as Leben, but he is far better at not getting hit so it basically negates the advantage.

bisping doesnt allow his opponents to punch him in the chin unlike leben… thats why bisping hasnt been knocked out

bisping will destroy him with a great technical performance

all 3 judges 30-27 bisping

Has anybody seen what BISPING did to a guy called MARK EPSTEIN in cage rage knocked him the fook out .My point is that guy was much bigger than LEBEN and he was meant to have a iron jaw too .BISPING went 15 mins agaist RASHAD EVANS and what did he do to CHUCK so again you BISPING haters work out who has the better chin. mark my words BISPING will win ..go MIKE knock him the fook out i will be there to watch you kick his ass

Mike: 90% of the ppl on mmamania will not have seen that fight. I’ve mentioned it before on here and only a couple of guys had seen it. They think peoples mma careers only start @ TUF.

You forgot to mention that Epstein has massive punching power and Bisping took them on the chin without problem.

personally i see this fight going the distance, going to be a real war but just can’t see either fighter being knockout. lebens got great stand up and one of the best chins in the game. then on the other hand, bisping’s been in there with some really tough guys at 205 and hasn’t been stopped. I feel bisping’s got the tools to win the fight, if he picks his shots and stays on the outside uses his reach and leg kicks. bisping by decision!!!

2008-10-11 18:23:03

First of all, I believe there should be several losses on The Count’s record already! They keep letting him fight in the UK because it’s good for business. But, he’s getting some unrealistic decisions! Now, this is strictly my oppinion! Anyone has a right to disagree! But, I’m still not over the Matt Hamill rip-off! Bottom line, Bisping’s chin will be tested! And it will fail in highlight reel fashion! My appologies to all the Bisping fans out there! No disrespect is intended! But, I give The Count 2 minutes, tops!

Bisping has only one suspect loss to Hamill maybe he should of won Evans so that cancels it out.

someone is at least getting dropped. so once it goes to the floor who has the advantage? i think bisping has better gnp from full guard and side control but leben has a good active guard and pretty slick submission d.
