dana white
As if UFC President Dana White didn’t have enough to do running the most successful mixed martial arts promotion on the planet, he has now added the role of television drama producer to his long list of responsibilities.

That’s right, White — who has strong ties to the Boston, Mass., area — will contribute behind-the-scenes this fall on a two-hour pilot project about the Irish mob in “Beantown” that could air on Spike TV if it gets the green light.

And it’s apparently a concept that has been in the works for about three years, according to HollywoodReporter.com.

Here’s a brief description of what to expect:

“The untitled project, from MGM Television Entertainment, centers on the explosive fallout when a Boston mob boss vacates his position and rival factions face off in a battle to control the streets.”

Tom Lynch will serve as executive producer opposite White and Walter Hill — who is perhaps best known for his work on the film 48 Hours — will direct.

Unsurprisingly, White intends to inject his influence in the program:

“I know who I’m catering to, and that’s 18- to 34-year-old males who are the ones watching Spike TV. We’re going to push the limits on this show, like ‘Nip/Tuck’ and ‘The Shield’ — violence, sex, bad language. We’re going to see how big Spike’s balls are on this one.”

Go figure.

Sounds cool, but the same kind of show (without the sex, bad language and stuff) was canceled like 4 years ago on NBC. Ever heard of The Black Donelly’s?

That show was really cool, but it was on NBC and there for did not have enough sex and violence to keep that audience watching. A spike version of that show should kick ass. Can’t wait to see this show. I hope it does not suck lol.

The Black Donnelley’s = I loved that show. I was actually upset when the cancelled. I knew several people that watched it and they all loved it to. They didnt even finish airing all the episodes of season 1 that they had already filmed by the time they got cancelled. Those episodes only aired on nbc.com

I remember the knew boss, the brother of the dead boss with the blonde hair ended up killing Mamma Donnelley. Then I believe the DOnneley boys then killed him. I can’t remember, it was a while back. The girl on that show is hot. Something Riley was her name. She is now on House.

agreed on all counts including especially the chick on house. But i would rather see him do something about the co-main event at UFC 91 than this. It’s such a freakshow that they might as well hold it in the saitama arena on new years eve.

Since it will be on Spike, I dont think it will do well. They probably have a standards department that wont allow cussing or anything too graphic to be shown. I know MMA is kind of graphic, but it’s not the same as someone getting shot in the head, getting their throat slit, or getting their body dismembered. A good Irish mob show thats currently on is “Brotherhood” on Showtime.

Different network, different standards dept. I love “The Sheild” and it sucks this is the last season. I think aside from HBO and Showtime, FX has some of the best series’.

Do they show re-runs of “The Sheild” on Spike, because it airs on FX first. Do they say the word “shit” on the Spike episodes? Just asking. I dont watch Spike aside from the UFC stuff.

I completely forgot it is on FX first, I saw a show the other night on Spike. I believe they cursed, but I wasn’t focused on it, just had the tube on for background noise.

Shield originates on FX. WGN and Spike carry the broadcast rights to replay the old seasons.

Mexi, I am with you. FX has quality stuff besides HBO.

The Black Donnellys was canceled because NBC likes to air the fast food version of TV shows. Almost anything with true substance or decent writing is dumped by NBC nowadays unless it instantly becomes a ratings monster.

Mex, I just checked Spike’s website, where I can’t seem to find when it airs, but they have a promo video for it. So I guess it’s on Spike in syndication, but I can’t remember if they curse! I think that if the show is ballsy enough, they’ll air the stuff Dana was talking about. The UFC has helped spike enough that I think they’d go for it not to upset Dana, besides, everything else he’s done with them seems to have turned to gold.

The best is how all these “reality shows” that aren’t game shows have writers. I hardly watch any reality TV anymore. The majority of it sucks.

I can’t help but draw a metaphorical connection from the plot of the show, to the UFC’s trying to stave off the smaller promotions. Mob boss Dana White must think pretty highly of himself. lol

what the hell does dana white know about producing t.v. shows? im a big fan of dana’s, but he needs to stick with mma and keep his eye on the prize. it says he will contribute, so maybee his time will be limited. i know lorenzo is on board helping know, so maybee that gives him a little more “free” time. we’ll see if everything dana touches turns to gold.

I guess art imitates life. Just go look up info on Frank and Lorenzo’s daddy.

But then again, I guess if you just change the Italian into Irish then nobody will ever see the connection.
