“If he ever wanted a rematch, I would 100 percent give it to him.”

– Elite XC’s “Rocky Balboa” Seth Petruzelli mentioned at the Elite XC post-fight press conference that he would gladly grant Kimbo Slice a rematch if that’s what he and the organization wanted. “The Silverback” stepped up on literally hours notice to fight Slice in the main event at Elite XC: “Heat” over the weekend when Ken Shamrock pulled out because of a cut just before showtime. At this point the long anticipated match between Slice and undefeated Team Bison member Brett “The Grim” Rogers is probably out of the question … at least for the time being. Therefore, a rematch with Petruzelli could be the most logical next step in the Kimbo Slice MMA experiment. Petruzelli added that he would definitely come into a rematch at least 20 pounds heavier than the 205.5 pounds he weighed in at for last night’s bout. Who would have thought we’d ever see Kimbo vs. Seth Petruzelli I, let alone part II?

Kimbo has to fight someone tougher if he wants to get his credibility back amongst casual fans but everyone knows someone better than seth would clobber him and two losses in a row suck for elite and him. I bet seth would still pounds him out if he knows he’s getting a rematch because well he doesn’t suck as much as kimbo and he’ll come prepared as a heavyweight. Mind you he said he wasn’t training full time. Both fights are lose-lose.

I am curious to find out what the odds of the rematch would be. Would Seth be the favorite? Or will some mma fans think it was a fluke? Or will they hype machine that is Kimbo Slice still be a betting favorite for the rematch? This is actually a pretty tricky question.

If the odds were released and they were even, say -110 apiece, then I would think that the majority of the money would be being bet on Kimbo by all of his internet fans, which would in turn put Seth at around a +140 eventually.

Yesterday, Mania claimed that that was a fight that Kimbo wins 9 times out of 10. Everybody argued that statement and even said that Seth would win that fight 9 times out of 10. I think that ALL of you are kidding yourselves. Neither of those fighters would win that fight 9 times out of 10. I actually put it at a coin flip. Seth was genuinely scared as Kimbo came charging at him like a truck. He was in 100% retreat mode. If the fight stays standing, I say Kimbo wins 4 out of 5 times. But if Seth can get the takedown, I say he wins 4 out of 5 times.

Are the other two fights draws Mike? I think that Seth went in there with fear but I think he conquered that. That being said I dont think Seth is even a B level fighter(which shows where Slice is in his game) but I think he would dictate the pace of the fight and you never know Kimbo might be a little gun shy now but on the same note Seth could be a little over confident.

Comment by ViolentMike
2008-10-06 10:53:56

Seth overcame his fear? Did you listen to his post fight interview? He said it felt like he was getting rushed by a speeding truck, or something to that effect.

But then again, WHY am I responding to you? You may have asked a top 10 dumb question on this site. “Are the other 2 fights draws?”

Are you serious??

I said: The ( _____ ) is the info I added so you and other readers with 100 or less brain cells can understand

“If the fight stays standing, I say Kimbo wins 4 out of 5 times (Kimbo wins 4 times and Seth wins 1). But if Seth can get the takedown, I say he wins 4 out of 5 times (Seth wins 4 times and Kimbo wins 1).” (THEN, when you do the math, that works out to each fighter wins 5 out of 10 times, which equals a coin flip. Get it????????

VM,

I think Seth would pull 5 of 5 on the ground. Kimbo’s power needs to be respected. However, his cage awareness is poor. Granted this is do to lack of experience. If you watch the replay, you see Kimbo attempts to block or grab Seth’s leg. Seth timed Kimbo’s move and threw a nice right hand.

With Seth’s experience I think he could take 5 of 5 on the ground. Standing, I will always give Kimbo, at least, a puncher’s chance.

Right, “I think we should give Kimbo a Mulligan.” He’s not Tiger Woods and Second Mr Slice aswell as Petrucelli lamborgini Linguini or whatever both took their respective fight on short notice. Neither were prepared for the other and the results were fair, even and balanced. Sorry Slice u rolled the dice and u were iced.

I don’t see any reason to think that Kimbo losing will help the ratings for Elite XC. The only cards that did well were the ones that he was on. Now that he was dropped like a bag of quarters, many casual fans have already lost interest in him and mma as a whole.

I gotta agree with the extroverted introvert here. People tuned into Chucks next fight to see if he was gonna kill someone after he lost. They are gonna tune in again after the recent loss to Rashad too.

People watching Kimbo are gonna keep watching him just like fans of Tank are gonna pay to see Tank fight. Because he may just knock someone out.

Kimbo losing just takes some pressure off us more informed fans. Now it’s gonna be at least another year before Elite brings the HW title back if they have to strip the Giant. You know damn well who they want it on and who they want fighting him for it.

Seth would win again in my mind. Despite being an average MMA fighter he is still has the better skill set that Kimbo. Kimbo sucks and has a punchers chance. Once this fight was announce I knew it would be a bad decision for Kimbo. Seth has been training since he was a kid. To me this wasn’t that big of an upset, Kimbo’s terrible and I thought everyone knew that (well at least the hardcore’s knew). As I said, he has a punchers chance, but he will lose 8 times out of 10 against a more skilled opponent.

Comment by introvert

Kimbo was never a favourite in this fight since Seth was announced as his opponent.

This was a bad deal for a guy who only fought 3 times in MMA. But, really what choice did Kimbo have? It was either fight Seth (as a huge underdog) or turn the fight down (and be mocked by 2 million MMA wannabe fanboys that wouldn’t have the balls to fight Seth either)…lose, lose.

Comment by UKmmaBOY
2008-10-06 10:01:03

But Kimbo is touted as the anytime anywhere streetfighter, thats his draw. The announcers made it sound like Seth was a guy who had turned up at the arena to watch and ended up having a fight & it was a Rocky moment.

Kimbo handled the loss well, Elite as an organisation handled it badly at first, especially with Shaw screaming at the side of the cage & saying it should be a mulligan result, it was only after they had some form of damage control at the press conference they have started to handle it better.

Not sure where you got the “God’s gift” quote from…care to share it with me? But, that’s not the issue….is it? The issue is…you could take any tough guy who wieghs 265 and has only 3 fights under his belt, put him in a cage with a 205er with years of experience…..the 205er is the favourite……period.

He doesn’t have 3 fights experience. Thats the point. He is hyped as a brawling internet street FIGHTING sensation by Elite. He got rocked by a dude 30 lbs lighter punching whilst moving backwards.

The fight didn’t go to the mat, there wasn’t any grappling or Jits or Mui Thai. 1 punch to put Kimbo on his knees and then hammer fists. This is the closest you will get to a street fight in a cage apart from the ref stopping Kimbo getting his head stomped on.

I think your missing the point Introvert. If Kimbo was so largely unexperienced as he was then he had no part in stepping in the ring on such a high stage. To be honest I don’t get where you have the right to say that he was expected to lose to Seth. Seth has less MMA experience, didn’t get to train for this fight, and has less ground experience than Ken. He weighs about the same and Ken and has a great record of 2-2 in his last four fights and not against the greatest of oponents. You can keep calling this a mulligan but in everyones eyes this is what it is, and thats a sham.

He wouldn’t have been mocked for turning down a fight with 3 hours notice. EXC wouldn’t have even mentioned they asked Seth if Slice turned down the fight. It wasn’t a lose lose, it was EXC trying to promote Slice as anywhere anytime anyone and even though they got themselves a UFC drop out (name value) also being much smaller than Slice they forgot that Slice doesn’t have quick hands nor does he want to stand a brawl anymore for fear of being taken down. EXC and Kimbo both thought that fighter the smaller man would benefit them but it blew up in their face. Let Kimbo try to take Seth again at a more fair weight and you’ll see Kimbo get tko’d again.

kimbo has NO chin at all hes never even fought someone with enough gas to hit him 100% james thompson hit him but never really all that hard or in the chin, seth hit him weakly but on the button he used kimbo charging at him against him and his own fat weight made the punch more powerful
