roy nelson

Props: ESPN.com

Quoteworthy:

“I put myself ahead of Arlovski for the pure fact that I bring a more complete package. He’s great at what he does. He’s a phenomenal striker, but lax at grappling…. My physique works for me. I consider myself like 75 percent of the Americans out there. I give 100 percent. And I like food…. I’m looking for that big endorsement, like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut or McDonald’s. Maybe after this fight, I’ll do a cookbook.”

Roy Nelson feels that he has the edge in his fight against Andrei Arlovski tomorrow night in the Elite XC fight that is co-promoted by Affliction MMA at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. “Big Country” also has his sights set on some big name sponsors who may tune in to the “Saturday Night Fights” broadcast on CBS. Good luck on both fronts, Roy.

Yeah I’d love to see him take a shot to the gut. The slow-mo replay would be funny. Andrei’s fist would probably disappear in the mass of fat. It would look horrendous.

Absolutely Jet. Roy has a great personality. Roy Nelson may not be the greatest MMA fighter of all time, but he is a legit HW that can get the job done. But against Arlovski, it certainly won’t be easy.

One thing Nelson has going for him is that his opponenents never want Nelson to mount them. That could be close to an unescapable position.

Arlovski should win this fight relatively easily. I am hoping to see Nelson with a break out performance. He can do so by simply going the distance with Arlovski and making the fight competitive. He doesn’t need to get a W in order to garner himself some attention.

Yes that was a horrible upset.

Comment by ViolentMike
2008-10-03 13:44:37

Andrei Arlovski losing a fight to anyone would not be the biggest upset in MMA. Andrei has proven that he is beatable, and is not always ther 100% mentally.

If Hung Man Choi beat Fedor, that would hands down have been the biggest upset in MMA history. But a Nelson win is much more possible. That’s why is only +350 or so. Anderson SIlva is a much bigger favorite over Cote…

Comment by belfort_fan
2008-10-03 14:17:28

I agree 100% if Choi(1-0) would have beat Fedor. And Arlovski is definatly beatable. Jake O’brien took him down and held him there for a minute. dont get me wrong AA is my favorite HW.

Sorry buddy, but you’re wrong about that Korean freak beating Fedor being the biggest potential upset in MMA. I argue that if that Brazilian freak Zuluzino (sp?) beat Fedor it would have been a bigger upset. That guy had fewer qualifications than Tank Abbott, and that’s not easy to do.

GSP’s size and stength advantage should make him the betting favorite to win this fight, although not by much. Maybe like a -140 to a +110 is the farthest apart I can picture these odds opening at.

If you don’t understand odds either, GSP has a little less than a 60% chance at winning and BJ has about a 40% chance

Pretty sure he just disrespect Andrei by saying he is “a more complete package”. You don’t disrespect Andrei. I am pretty sure Andre is a better grappler as well as being a much better striker. Oh and who was Roy Nelson’s last loss to? Ben Rothwell, who Andrei just demolished (which makes this fight pretty irrelevant IMO).

Roy has 4 wins by submission in 15 career fights

Andrei has 3 wins by submisssion in 19 career fights.

Just bringing the facts.

With that said, I see Arlovski winning by TKO unless Nelson can keep Andrei on the ground.

Actually I have been following MMA pretty heavily for several years, not that it matters. This fight is simply irrelevant and Nelson is not on the level that Arlovski is. Everybody will see this on Saturday. I’ve been wrong before, but I feel pretty confident saying that this fight makes about as much sense as Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock.

Yeah Country Boy is a more complete package; more complete if you consider waffles, syrup, fried chicken, mashed potatos, greens, corn bread, gravey, more gravey, more and more gravey. All rolled together in that JELLO BELLY, then yeah he is a more complete package.
