It was eventually ruled a no contest because the Croatian could not continue, providing a disappointing conclusion to a bout that had received much interest and fanfare leading up to it. Not too mention it sounds downright excruciating.

I am still a Mirko Cro Cop fan(one of the few left)..And it really sucks to see this fight end this way..I was really hoping that Mirko could get back to his old self and knock a head off..
Also, I was glad to see Sergei back in action..I have been a fan of his for some time now, and even though his opponant was sub-par, it was still a treat to a great card..I hope the UFC scouts are starting to consider this man..

You can’t count out the fact that Overeem was dominating that entire fight. To give him a loss due to this would be stupid.
but why? i didnt see the fight, but by the sounds of things he threw several illegal blows. I can see 1 or 2 slips allowed, but after so many you gotta DQ him…

STAGGER-LEE: I know you’re a fan of Cro Cop but in case you haven’t caught on to the trend, these original mma superstars just can’t compete on the same level they used to whether it be because they are getting too old or because the talent has quickly caught up to them. Either way, I don’t think we’re ever gonna see the Liddells, the Hughes, the Crop Cops “go back to” their old selves.

I said it all week long, Alistar does NOT win the Big Fights and I just knew that this fight was going to disappoint us. I am no longer a fan of cro cop but its a shame that his opponents are constantly teeing off on his nuts. I don’t wish that kind of pain onto any fighter except maybe Jermey may and Sam Hogar!

sergie’s opponent was laughable. Sergei is one of my favorite HW’s so it was still nice to see him in action. I just Love how he sets his opponents up with strikes to the body, getting them to drop their hands leaving them exposed for the Big knock out to the head. Like Bas Rutten said, it reminded us of the Sergei/Ninja fight in the 2004 hW grand Prix. its a shame that we did not get to see him fight Mighty Mo.

so you think Chuck Liddell should have tee of on Rashad evans after he won the first round of his last fight? Why not every other fighter out there just go and groin kick their opponent when he’s leading in the cards so the fight gets thrown out.
Cro Cop does not deserve to get any title shot with his piss poor performance and Overeem should be BANNED from competing because he’s a dirty fighter. and they say Gilbert Yvel was bad.

I had a tortion of the testicle in high school from a kick to the groin. It hurt pretty bad, but once they unwrapped them it felt a lot better. I feel his pain.
I am pretty sure Mirko and his balls both feel tired and beaten after tonight, even if it wasn’t for the eventual no contest, Alistair was winning as I saw it.
Fedor vs Alistair is more interesting than Fedor vs the Crocop that I saw tonight.

I think it’s a matter of Mirko fighting larger opponents. He is in a weight class where several of his opponents are going to be bigger than him. With that height comes the problem of knees to the groin. They are unintentional but they are much more likely to happen.
That should only be a problem if Mirko is much taller than his opponents. Not to mention his fondness of throwing high kicks.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the worst event of this year, it failed to deliver on so many occassions, and it lasted nearly 3 days.
Cro Cop vs Fedor will probably happen at NYE as it will be a fitting mismatch of a Can vs a genuine contender and the Japanese seemingly love these, I have just watched a whole show of them.

The Cro Cop/Overeem fight was a bust, and to see the finale of the mw grand prix end with a first round up kick was kind of anit-climactic.

I doubt that. dropping weight doesn’t always mean easier opponents. If Cro Cop is having problems in the HW division against slower opponents I doubt he could stop into the stacked LHW division. Cro Cop can either retire now or fight some cans for awhile. A little disappointing but it’s better than becoming a walking highlight reel like Shamrock.
cro cop has had problems with height and weight, not speed, he dominated wanderlei and I think he would do much better against the top lightHW.

The strikes to the groin looked exactly the same way they did when Kongo inadvertantly knee’d CroCop in the nads. Both Kongo and Overeem got up close/clinch and attemted to deliver some knee shots to CroCop, unfortunately, CroCop’s nuts got in the way.
I saw the fight on tv, was a little disappointing, I was hoping Overeem would KO/Submit CroCop. The only real dissapointment among an otherwiese awesome event, the Grand Prix finale was insane, who would have predicted that?

I’ve got to handed it ot overeem for dominating the fight, but for christ sakes, you’ve been warned and you had to go out of the way and get the fight tossed then get booed out as a dirty fighter. Overeem could have just stood with him picked him apart with strikes or just went back to his GNP.
