Normally, at least for me, exciting boxing matches is an oxymoron.

Theres only two exciting Boxing matches I can think of, Margarito/Cotto 2 and Pavlik/Calzaghe. But those 4 fighters are not with Golden Boy Promotion. Mosley is fighting Mayorga for free on HBO. And Pavlik/Hopkins is not PPV worthy IMO???

I was a huge boxing fan growing up but since a lot of fights haven’t lived up the hype over the last few years I’m beginning to care less and less.

I guess it will be the boxing fans complaining about dudes wrestling on the ground VS MMA fans complaining about long drawn out fights with too much clinching and stalling (my personal gripe).

If anyone can do it it will be these two promotions so we’ll have to wait and see.

Hopefully it wont be the demise of Affliction though if it doesn’t all work out.

As much as I love Fedor, I will not support an mma event that features Boxing matches. I just WONT do it! I dont care how good the fights are, I pay to watch MMA, PERIOD!

john, I will be very interested in the parody of payouts to boxers and MMA fighters though! But i’m with you, not going to shell out hard earned money to watch boxing.

Boxing is an acquired taste.

I am not going to try and covert you to boxing BUT if you see the right match-ups you will be very surprised.

The best example of a “boxing style” in MMA is Machida. Feints, combinations and counter striking. His footwork at avoiding strikes is also similar to the “sweet science.”

Alot of people find Machida boring so I can understand why MMA fans can find boxing to be boring as well.

ok, but in boxing they sure as hell throw more punches than 5 per round.. the best example of boxing in MMA is obvious, It’s Sakara because he is a boxer..

I think its the casual fan that will make or break this PPV oddity.

I would buy it because I obviously like both but people like me are probably in the 1 - 5 %.

Spencer Fischer’s second fight against Sam Stout.

Now that was an MMA match that closely resembled a boxing match. Spencer worked combos, provided angles and had excellent footwork.

Fans LOVED that match but still frown on boxing.

OJR, don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some very entertaining fights, but simply find it boring as a whole. And I don’t disrespect boxing, as I sure as sh*T would’nt want to tangle with a skilled boxer. lol. I guess, for me, there is a better prospect for an exciting fight in MMA. And I always think, when watching boxing, that they wouldn’t stand a chance with a same tier martial artist. Plus, all the hate MMA gets from hardcore boxing fans has probably influenced my bias as well.

i guess you have to love boxing to enjoy this but i would love a card with fedor and oscar on it, or anyother top boxer and mma fighter, i see some mma huys taking on boxers down the road and vice versa pride did it with k-1 and there special rules fights and i enjoyed those.i can understand if you hate boxing but if not this could be a good thing and i could see converting more boxing fans over and making mma even bigger.

lol you’ll never get that card though roy, it will be the same affliction fighters you’ll get anyways, with a few up and coming boxers. Oscar headlines pure boxing events, he would never step down to sell ppv’s for mma! he’s done after manny beats him any how!

Chefdaddy: Brought up a great point as well about what the payouts would be financially. I wonder if Fedor can command enough of a salary to compete with Boxers salaries.

Also, I wonder how much this type of event would cost on ppv? I would imagine it would have to be higher than the normal $45 we are used to spending on UFC events

kevin i real don’t see what your talking about the same old affliction fighters are some of the best in the business imo, who are you talking about fedor barnett aa lindland belfort ect. and the list is growing i would watch those guys fight over and over again they can mix match and not have them same fight for the next couple with just who they have right now and that would be fine with me, kevin do you know who these fighters are? because you sure don’t seem to care about watching them fight.i get a good laugh at your comments though.

i think that could happen john, with a top boxer and a guy like fedor on the card it could be huge, you got the boxing fans ordering it for that fight and any true MMA fan would want to see fedor fight. once the boxing fans saw fedor in action how could they not get into mma and you know it will only help the fighters pay witch i am all for.
