Wow, with the fights they have on this card so far, it really sounds like it will be the highest selling ppv in UFC history, if I could pre order it right now I would

just a side note, I wonder what kind of shape Randy will be in for this fight. He really hasn’t had but 2 months to prepare, and thats not a lot of time coming off a year lay off to get ready for a guy like Brock. I hope he’s been training on his down time and staying in shape. I know he picked up Wandi as a student, so I wonder if they traded some tips. I hope Randy took advantage of having some of the baddest strikers on the planet to work with.

Randy stays pretty active in the Gym, even during layoff I dont think his conditioning will be a factor. But I don’t think it will be suficiant to beat Lesnar.

If Wanderlie vs. Rampage is booked, I will go see this event live for sure! My problem is that tickets go on sale soon. I wish the UFC would hurry up and officially announce what the co-main event will be in time for me to purchase tickets.

I cant stand when they start selling tickets to an event before announcing important fights on the card! like WTF?

Its really messed up! I live in Philly, so traveling all the way to Vegas, just cause I feel like it and to see a big fight is a big deal. I am a college student, not some baller who can make these kind of trips often. So for me to make a trip like that, I want to make sure I go to the best event posssible and I would love to know the complete product that I may be potentially purchasing (tickets to even). but the UFC is so popular that they dont have to announce all the fights. THey announce a main event and BAM<, its sold out! WTF! I have to pick and choose wisely what events I go watch because I dont have troo many opportunities to take these kinds of trips. It would be really nice to know with in the next few days if Wandrelie is fighting Rampage that night for sure or not.

I wouldn’t worry about what Couture is going to bring to the table… I would worry more about what Brock is bringing… question is, can Couture handle him?… I’m betting ‘yes’…. Couture has the MMA Mental toughness edge, if Couture can weather the storm or fight a strategic standup war and keep it off the ground, he gets a ‘W’

For the first time in my life I wish I lived in the States LOL. Please dont get too sensitive – just banter.

Amazing card. I hope Randy hands Lesnar his ass, but I can’t see anyone in the UFC HW division defeating Lesnar.

I know Mir took him to school but that would not happen again. I hope I am wrong because I would rather watch a puppy starve than see a belt around Lesnar’s waiste.

PW – I now need to do something to eradicate the image of Brock “the Cock” Lesnar having a belt around his belt.

Good nickname too on account of the stupid peni$ he has tattooed on his chest.

This may be an exciting and profitable fight, but isn’t anyone even a little bit upset? I mean, should Lesnar (or anyone) really be getting a title shot after only two fights? One of which he lost?? What about the interim belt holder (Nogueira)???—Shouldn’t he get the chance first; isn’t that part of the intended purpose of the interim belt? I guess working up the ranks to earn a title shot will no longer be a requirement for some in the UFC!?!

anderson silva got a shot after 1 fight in the ufc, the only reason no one questions that now is because he’s been so dominant. If lesnar wins he could likely be a dominant champion and hold the belt a long time, especially if he develops good bjj defense, and no one will look back and say he shouldn’t have got the shot. there were no other options for randy unless he wanted to sit out for another 6-8 month untill the winner of mir vs nog is ready to fight again. The way i see it is this is the best situation, you have the winner of couture-lesnar vs the winer of mir-nog, what better match up’s are there in the HW devision, i do agree that nog should fight couture at some point, and might, but i don’t no if it will be for a title. Also mir is getting a shot after a win over lesnar, and i think that hearing could well have been next in line for a shot with a win over lesnar so why shouldn’t he get one after he beat hearing

Agreed. Yes he’s a beast and has the tools to beat Randy. But he hasn’t paid his dues. He’s riding high on hype and WWE fame. A 1-1 record inside the octagon does not justify a title shot.

Comment by hughes
2008-09-16 14:10:29

he’s not just riding on his wwe fame, they wouldn’t have brought him in on that alone, there is no one in the HW devision besides randy with the wresting crudentials he has. he’s a super althete and regardless of his record and the fact he hasn’t paid his dues he’s probably in the top 5 heavyweights in the ufc, the only people I see beating him at the minute are Nog, Mir, and possibly Werdum, but given the time it’ll take for him to fight the winner of mir-nog (likley 6-8 months) i think he will have good enough bjj defense to win. As for this fight with randy i’m by no means counting randy out, i’m still curious to see how lesnar copes with randys clinch, if he can get out of that ok i think he will win.

Comparing Lesnar to Silva regarding a title shot is not realistic at all; Silva had an established MMA career and record long before his match with Franklin (16-4-0) and earned it based on fights outside the UFC, albeit a title shot may still have been a bit premature, imo.

Also, you and many others, DEFINTELY DO base you opinions of Lesnar largely on the ‘hype’. Can you realistically say that Lesnar is sooo great based on watching him fight only 2 times??? Which is the whole point… 1:1 MMA record should not equal a title shot with a Hall of Famer, no matter who you are, period!

As far as people saying ‘just because he hasn’t paid his dues’, YES, that’s exactly why; you have to earn these things, 2 fights does not cut it!! Besides, the interim belt holder should be fighting the champ, that’s the whole point of an interim belt—a matchup once the champ is able/willing to fight again.

A lot of things should happen before Lesnar gets that title shot, despite the fact it might take a few months; Nogueira and Mir (to name a few) should get a shot first. And who says Lesnar should jump ahead of Kongo (who is 22-4-1 and coming off a win against Dan Evensen)? You see my point? There are a lot of other options for good fights based on who should be up next.

Just admit it’s all about ratings/money (not the sport) and stop trying to justify this. Jeeeze!!!

And all the people crying about how Lesnar hasn’t paid his dues are the same people who would be saying he is just a lot of hype and hasn’t proved anything if Dana fed him bums off the street like Fergie Slice gets. The fact is that Lesnar has an incredibly unique skill combination that is unmatched in all of MMA and it gives him a better than average chance at beating virtually any HW. And before all you Fedor huggers start up, I said ‘virtually.’

firstly my oppinions of lesnar aren’t based on the hype, secondly i thought he should have fought kongo before a title shot, that was supposed to happen but kongo got injured (hand injury i think) and the only other fight that would have made any sence is werdum, anyone else would have been a step backwards in competition. the reason i think the werdum fight didn’t happen is that randy didn’t want to sit around waiting for the winner or mir-nog, i do admit it has a bit to do with ratings/money or they would have done randy vs werdum but it’s not all that

Re: PW
Nobody here has said Lesnar is not talented, or is not unique, or doesn’t have a good shot at becoming a champ. But there’s a big difference between ‘feeding him bums of the street’ and giving him a title shot after only 2 fights, 1 on of which he lost (common, be realistic). All I’m saying is that there should be more to getting a title shot!!!

Re: hughes
‘i do admit it [ratings/money] has a bit to do with ratings/money or they would have done randy vs werdum but it’s not all that’–yes it clearly is, or else none of this would be happening; and looking back to the begining it’s obviously getting worse and worse. If the Detroit Red Wings win their first 3 games 5-0 do they get to skip the rest in the Western Conference just because they’re doing really well? NO! You still have to work you way up–UFC should be no different if you are going to call it any sort of competition. (Please, no one get all pissy because of the team I picked, it’s just an example).

i can totally see where your coming from but given the current state of the HW devision who would you want to get a title shot, bare in mind that kongo is injured, mir and nog already have their fight and there’s no way randy will wait for the winner of that. The only other person I can think of is werdum, and after a controversial stoppage over vera i think most people would be more upset if he got a title shot for that, than lesnar getting a shot after tooling hearing for 3 rounds

I see what you mean, and that’s a difficult question to answer (I can’t really say for sure), but Lesnar should not be getting a title shot based on the process of elimination; there’s more to competitive sports than that.

i agree, just like cote shouldn’t be getting a shot at silva but he is because there’s no one else. The ufc is doin the best with what they’ve got in this case, but are still in desprate need of a few more good heavyweights. wether or not you agree with this situation (i can’t say i totally do) it’s gonna be a good fight and i can’t wait to see it

Working your way up is not what the UFC is about, the primary thing is how many PPV buys they think you would get.

Rampage got a shot after winning one fight in the ufc against the 25th ranked fighter in his wt class. It is about money like always. its not about earning it and paying dues, its just like always, its dana white trying to get his.
