Herman rains down punches from the mount to finish the round. That is a extremely close fight. Id say Herman won 29-28 but I expect a split decision it could go either way. I think Herman’s take downs might be the difference in the fight, but Belcher was much sharper on the feet and did hurt Herman bad twice. But Herman also landed some good stand up punches and knees of his own.

Final result: Alan Belcher defeats Ed Herman via Split Decision

If I got to choose which fights aired, I would pick:
Guida vs. Danzig
Nate vs. the dentist
Sakara vs. delepio
Lauzon vs. bradly

The UFC shoud have matched up Sakara vs. gouveai!

I don’t care what anybody says Gouveia should always be on the televised portion of any card. His last fight was part of the best card of the extire year and he was involved in the “Fight of the Night”. Just because he is no longer fighting Horn he has been dropped off the TV portion. WTF!!! Is Horn that big of a deal????

Maybe it’s just me, but any fight that dude is in is bad a$$. I think his first fight at 185 is pretty important to show the fans considering he will be a contender at that weight class within a year or so.

i dont know about everyone else, but i am very excited about this seasons tuf. ive saw nog’s video preview and his english is pretty good, and he came off as very humble and likeable like wandi has. mir’s video was very good as well and you know he’s gonna come off with alot of new fans afterwards as well as big nog. josh neer is only in the main b/c he’s fighting nate, but neer is a legit fighter at lw. jor rogan had a good video preview of this fight as well.

THURSDAY MORNING THOUGHT
There is only one logical match up for chuck (since we debated the issue tuesday, I’ve been thinking a lot about it). It’s got to be Machida. Lots of you said he’s not a big name, but it would be a win/win for the UFC. If Machida wins, he just beat the most popular fighter, and lots of people would see it since chuck sells a lot of ppv’s. If chuck wins, the UFC would have Hyped machida as an undefeated beast, and it would be a great win for chuck.
Rich Franklin’s eye was too messed up to fight again this year, and there really isn’t anyone else out there.
Plus, who takes it? It would be a pretty good fight that I find hard to predict a winner of!

Comment by chefdaddy
2008-09-11 10:18:29

kevin, do you think the UFC will risk Chuck losing again so soon? That would put a pretty big dent in his PPV draw, IMO. It would be hard to pick a winner, but at this point I’d go with Machida.

That would be a good matchup. It could even be exciting. It is too hard for me to call tho. Split decision win for someone. He’ll be back from suspension before 60 days. All the fighters will be back faster than the dates I think.

2008-09-11 10:46:43

chuck will be fine, the medical suspensions can be shortened after mri.
Chef, I don’t know, he’s getting older, as much as chuck and dana are close, I cam see him fighting machida, if machida wins it pushes his stock, and likeability!

Chuck knows that after his latest setback…that’s putting what happened mildly…that he has to take the hard road back cause that will be the quickest road for him. He’s not getting any younger so he needs a big name and he needs it right away. There are a lof big names in the division so it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone to match him up against that would put him back on the contenders list. I think the fight that would really get him there the quickest would be to take on Rampage again. If Chuck can show he can beat Rampage then he’ll really put himself back into a position where a win or two will get him his title shot. I doubt that fight would happen but it would really help him out and in a hurry. Either way…he needs a big name quickly. He doesn’t have time to fight a B level fighter.

I know a lot of people have said it before and I agree with them…Chukc needs to switch camps. Hackleman is a great coach and trainer but Chuck needs a change of scenery and some fresh ideas on how to reinvent himself and tap into some of his other skills. The guy is a kickboxer yet throws so few kicks. He’s also originally a wrestle yet rarely grapples. I think if he went back to his roots a little and got back up to speed on those talents that it would go a long way to making it more difficult for his opponents to prepar for him. Greg Jackson used the same game plan with Jardine and Evans and won them both. Now everybody knows how to beat the Chuck of today…although not everyone could execute it the way Jardine and Evans did.

Chuck would lose to Page if they fought again so soon. Chuck Machida would be interesting. I have Chuck winning this one as I don’t think Machida can do anything worse than Rampage or Rashad (in terms of power not technical skill). Machida has the same fighting style as Chuck (counter)so the fight might also be boring. A boring decision really helps nobody. If Chuck beats Lyoto then everyone says Lyoto was way overrated. If Lyoto beats Chuck then everyone says Chuck is washed up. Its not a win win for the UFC so the fight probably won’t happen. I don’t see why not though cause both fighters will be free for hmm… I don’t know say the December card?

I think Chuck should rematch Jardine after he loses to Vera. If he destroyed Jardine then his previous loss could be chalked up as a fluke. Plus it would be good to get his confidence up after losing 3 of his last 4 fights. He would still have a lot of work to do to get the memories of his devastating knockout losses to Rampage and Rashad out of people’s heads, but I think it’s his start back.

I said the same thing when Mania posted the possible Chuck vs. Anderson fight.
This could be a good fight for Chuck since Machida dosen’t have knock out power in his right since Chucky drop his left all the time. Head kick and judges are the only way Chuck goes down in this fight. So I give it to Machida’s running…errr ninja style with the help of the judges…sorry Chuck.
I think the UFC puts a can in with Chuck next to build him up again.

Kevin, I hate to say it, but that would be the worst possible match up. First of all. They are both counter fighters who rely on their opponents aggression to get off. They are both their most deadly when an opponent is rushing them. Two counter fighters stylistically stinks against each other. No one is first to engage. All they’ll do is circle, circle, bob, weave and throw in the occassional jab or leg kick.

I think Chuck should rematch Jardine next. They’re both coming off devestating KO’s

getrawbc Chuck pursued Rashad. That was his whole fight plan was to draw Chuck in instead of trying to rush Chuck. Machida’s plan fits perfect with that as he is a counter striker. Chuck would definetly set up a new game plan against Machida like dirty boxing however Franklin went to sleep when he used that plan. Its a lose lose for both fighters as well. Chuck is washed up, Machida is overrated. Thats not what I think but thats how it is viewed when either fighter wins. There is no way the UFC could justify a title shot for Liddell with 2 wins in his past 5 and Machida needs no justification for a title shot so the fight is bad for the UFC but great for the fans (so long as its not counter against counter). I will say though that counter fighter vs counter fighter can sometimes make for an awesome fight as when one steps up to attack its usually followed by a flurry of counters from both fighters trying to play to their strengths.

i like chuck vs a. silva somtime next year would be ok.time heals all wounds and a long lay-off for chuck would bode well for him and help fans forget a little bit more about the rashad fight. maybee a chuck/wandi rematch if wandi beats rampage. the 1rst one was an awfully good fight and wandi doesnt seem to be in any hurry to fight for the title since he has been training so much with team couture and forrest. i dont think chuck can ever beat rampage imo. if you throw a.silva and or franklin (i almost forgot about him)into the lhw mix, ther are so many possibilities it boggles the mind.

chris leben gave him a hell of a knee just like houston did
and mcfedries was just a stronger puncher
and sakara has no ground game compared to lister

thats why i think he lost the fights he did in the ufc….

Thank YOu mania, I guess its ask and I shall receive!

How the hell did Josh Neer manage to get himself in a main event? A match up like this baffles me as to what in the world goes on in Joe Silva’s mind. I really dont want to see Nate loose anytime soon and I doubt Neer will be the one to beat him but Neer is a tough kat, not to be taken lightly.

The big fight that I am sure everyone is waiting on is Guida vs. Mac. That should have been the main event. I dont think Mac will be able to fend of Guida’s relentless attack, but If Mac can submit him, I will be extremely impressed!

I really hope that Llauzon’s fight gets aired. I would rather see “Creepy Joe” fight then Houston or THe “red headed stepchild” Ed Herman any day. I actually like Herman but I think he will be involved in a terribly one sided match up. Ed is too big and to strong for NO Ground game Belcher to compete against. Belcher will get taken down easily and Ed will just pound away.

John, I’m going with Mac Danzig all the way on this one, I was really impressed with his technique and I think he’s a lot stronger than he looks. Even though Danzig was a TUF newbie he’s a veteran MMA fighter. Danzig will beat Guida. I’m going to go as far as to step in the sh*t and speculate he’ll go all the way to the top and in the next couple of years earn a shot at the title.

i like how the matches are now, but those are just as good. with the way the fights are set for tonight, both main events feature technician vs brawler, which makes for a good high paced fight, and where the brawler can control and the technician has the ability to end it anytime. technique vs technique are awesome match-ups as well, and who doesn’t like a brawler vs brawler fight?

I can’t imagine that he would. As popular as Guida is, he’s still only .500 in UFC. Danzig has tons of experience here and against some of those tough dudes in Japan. If Guida is favored it’s by name recognition alone. That being said, I would still love to see him beat the crap out of that smug vegan.

Comment by DirtyML
2008-09-17 21:30:47

Controlled the pace, not being able to get up isn’t a good thing and doesn’t win you the fight.

Guida had control of almost the entire fight and dictated the pace, Mac Danzig could not get up and thus that is why Guida won those rounds.

He didn’t do much with the positions he established, but the point is he won those positions and Mac Danzig won less of them.

Mac Danzig did not exactly do anything great on the fight, or create any advantageous situations with his technical striking and that is why he lost.

dude, he got back up after almost each takedown. the 3 big slams guida got in the first, he didnt do anything with. just sat in the guard and held on. not exactly winning a round. when danzig kept getting up from the takedowns, thats a bit neutralizing.

and for sooper here, danzig had a real good jab the whole fight, and landed a lot more than what clay guida was.

and my whole point of arguement is the fact that guida won on solely takedowns. not position, not pace, not damage. just takedowns. yeah, the end of the 2nd he had his back, and he kept the pressure on him in the 3rd. but, i thought, danzig clearly won the first two rounds. just my opinion on the fight

Comment by sooper822

Effective striking when? You mean the combined 2 minutes he was on his feet? He was taken down at will, at least
8-10 times. I understand its not exciting to watch but Guida won the fight clearly. I actually had it 3-0 for Guida with possibly the first going to Danzig.
