Babalu
The hits just keep on coming for Strikeforce.

The latest setback for the San Jose-based mixed martial arts promotion is that Brazilian light heavyweight Renato “Babalu” Sobral has had to withdraw from his bout against Anthony “El Toro” Ruiz at “Strikeforce at the Mansion II” on September 20 because of a leg injury.

CEO of K.O. Dynasty Sports Mgt., Mickey Dubberly, tells MMAmania.com that Ruiz will remain on the card — Strikeforce is already on the hunt for another replacement.

However, perhaps Ruiz should be careful where he’s walking for the next week and a half or so. It seems like there is a curse on anyone who signs to compete in this match.

They all keep getting hurt.

Division champion Bobby Southworth was originally set to defend his title against Sobral in what more than likely would have been the featured main event of the night. But the champ also had to withdraw because of a leg injury he sustained in his preparation for the fight.

Strikeforce found a reliable fill-in with Ruiz, who has been one of the hardest working men in mixed martial arts over the last few months. The bout with Babalu would have been his third in less than three months.

Losing the Babalu and Southworth title fight was already a big enough hit for Strikeforce. Now with Babalu scratched and out all together this card is losing star power faster than Vincent Chase after the release of “Medellin.”

What’s left of a once promising event will be streamed live on Sherdog.com beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on September 20. For the latest fight card click here.

This CARD is DOOMED!

Luckily, kazuo Misaki is still fighting and I believe Ishida is making his debut. Dont care to much about the rest of this event

That’s exactly what i was thinking. Only their fights matter in the grand scheme of things too so it’s all good. Would have been nice to watch a can get fed to babalu though.

isn’t the thompson fight on this card too?

yeah but who cares? he is fighting a bum and its not even for the title.

Now a title fight between thompson vs. Ishida woud have been really interesting.

John-

Hijacking threads is something we will continue to try and crackdown on. We’re in the process of putting something together where you can do your own thing all day. This thread is for Strikeforce. Let’s stay on topic. If you have something that you feel is post-worthy you should know the drill by now — email it to me. Don’t get your panties in a wad. Thanks man.

thats fine and I wish you would have said something sooner. Its very frustrating to type something out, see it posted, come back later to read responses and find it erased. It much worse than just moderating it and not having it posted at all. Happy that you clarified things, now me and others dont have to waste time posting things that wont show up because it is very frustrating!

WAR MANIA!

I cant blame Babalu for not really wanting to be on this “awesome” card. The only good thing about it is that it’s at the Playboy Mansion.

Entourage reference, nice.

This card is REALLY hurting now. And I agree that it should have been Thomson vs Ishida in a Title fight.

The worst part is that people will continue having to write “champion Bobby Southworth.”

That’s the thing about Affliction- they absolutely need everyone to show up or they are screwed. This card is in the toilet. They would have lost money before, but they are going to completely hemorrhage now. Their gate and ppv buys are going to suck so bad they won’t be able to even pay Ozzy never mind the fighters. They may have 1 more event after this and they are done.

Strikeforce & Affliction are two different organisations.

way to get the convo started PW, but that not going to happen! Big time upset come MOnday night.

The eagles defense is too fast n dirty this year. We have the best corners in the league and T.O is getting shut down!

Not to mention we got dJ Kid, Desean Jackson = MONSTER!

Oh and thatpretty good guy whats his name? oh yeah thats right….WESTBROOK!!!

Marion Barber is going to be stewart Bradley’s Bitch!

Cowboys Baby!!! Let’s see how Jackson does after his little 165-pound frame gets whacked a couple times. Adam J. is going to make it rain on his punkass. And once that huge Cowboys O-line starts pounding on your D, only to have Barber come through and punch them in the face, they’re going to beg for a merciful end to the game.

As a die hard fan, I have to keep talking smack against the boys, but If I am being real, I think the Eages, Giants and Boys al split their series against each other this year.

still there is nothing more i want to see then the Eagles to go onto Dallas on Monday night and give them a thrashing! Reality is that it will most likely be a great game, perfect for MOnday night!

If the birds can go into Dallas and win with its 2 startng recievers hurt, then the boys are in trouble.

Boys aint the only team with a good offensive line, McNabb has some great blockers in front of him.

Biggest concern about facing the cowboys is Jason Witten.

Happy that you kept it real and didnt even attempt to tell me how you guys were going to contain “the wizard of westbrook” because we both know, THAT AINT HAPPENING@!

the division is the best in the league and its going to come down to which team suffers the east significant injuries and gets hot at the right time!

I guess we can agree on being thriled that Brady and the pats are out of the equation! Good riddance!

I’m about sick of the Patriots. It looks like Satan finally stepped onto the field and said, “I gave you three super bowls, the hottest super model on the planet and more cash than you could ever spend. Now I’m taking your knee. And I have to take your soul too, since Belichick doesn’t have one.”

I’m not sold on either the G-Persons or the Deadskins yet. Washington just looked awful in that game against NY, and NY got off to a great start but sleep-walked through the last three quarters.

One of our local sports writers just noted that in all the 40+ years Dallas and Phily have been in the same division there have only been 7 seasons when both Dallas and Philly were 10-6 or better, or 9-5 or better when they played 14-game schedules. This looks like another one of those seasons.

Everybody is sick of the Pats except for the bandwagon/frontrunners.

I think Brady handles himself w/ class and common sense (ala Derek Jeter) and its terrible to see that happen to him.

He was this generation’s Joe Cool for football.

Belicheck is a jerk as a human being but is a HOF coach.

Pw: your comment about the devil was priceless!

I think the redskins coach is an idiot and it will hinder their season’s success.

Brady is a class act, I cant take that away from them but his coach is a classless scumbag. I look forward to watching Mangini and Favre giving him a loss this week only the seasons 2nd game!

I havent been sold on the midgets yet either, then again I always think that they suck so I figured I woud show them some respect as super bow champion, but I do feel that it will be a battle between cowboys and iigles!

Other teams I enjoy watching: Vikings, Browns and I guess the Jets now that they got Fav-rah!

Lets go Kansas City! The rest of the league can thank the Chiefs.

Philly’s gonna take it. Their secondary is gonna stop the Dallas passing game.

My beloved Bears will make the NFC North more interesting.

I got either the Eagles or Boys’ in the East.

NFC West is a joke.

AFC is too wide open to call with Brady going down.

Ha! You guys have forgotten or dismissed my Bears! Why, we will run through your swiss cheese defenses, air the ball out over and over, and make long, long runs after the play. Oh wait, I forgot. The Bears have a crappy running back, worse QB and sorry receivers. But in recent years we dominated. Oh no, wait, that was two decades ago. Godd@mnit! Someone remind me why I root for them!
