liddell couture

Props: Canadian Press

Quoteworthy:

“If he gets the title back (after the tournament), I wouldn’t mind coming up and getting the heavyweight title too. We can talk about that later.”

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell talks about a possible fourth fight with UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture. Of course, “The Natural” still has the belt, however, “Iceman” is referring to Couture defeating Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 on November 15 and then beating the winner of the fight between interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira and Frank Mir to unify the title. Liddell has two wins in three tries against Couture in the 205-pound class.

I think Chuck needs to worry about this weekends fight rather than worrying about the heavyweight title. I’m not saying that Rashad is going to tear thru him or anything like that, but Rashad is not a push over. Chuck is worried about the title for LHW and HW and IMO he needs to prove himself to at least another fight after this one w/Rashad (if he wins) before he gets another crack at the LHW title.

Well he’s not going to have to prove himself, He’s Dana’s Golden Boy and he sells PPV’s. So if he beats rashad he will get his Title Shot at LHW. And If randy does beat Brock, And most likely Big Nog, Witch i dout he will even get past Lesnar, Then chuck could fight him for the belt at HW. And if chuck does lose againt Rashad, Then He could go up to heavyweight like randy did and most likley Have Success there aswell. becuase I see no one giving him a problem there but Nog and Lesnar. But I don’t see this Senerio even Happening.

There are way too many “ifs” in that scenario… Although, I wouldn’t mind it working out that way.

The classic war: Liddell vs Couture… @ HW!! I’m all about it.

why didnt he come up and fight Sylvia, Arlovski, or Nog for the HW belt. he just wants to fight somebody he knows he can beat. i’d bet if he did fight randy for the title and won, he’d retire or relinquish the belt before he’d defend it against someone like Nog or Brock. chuck would just fight randy so he could say he was a HW champ, it’s not like he could defend it. if he thought he could be a dominate HW he would have quit cutting weight from 230 and fought at HW a long time ago!!!

Randy was very succesful in the lhw division but then moves up to heavyweight and dominates

Really? I mean I know Chuck beat him in their last two bouts, but he won the interim belt, and the undisputed belt 1.5 times (the loss to Vitor was a total fluke, hence the .5). I’m not sure about one guy in the division having his number being the indicator for a lack of success. But whatever.

Sorry my friend but if Chuck wins, it’s Chuck vs Forrest which I don’t have a problem with. Chuck is a MMA legend and if he manages to beat Wandy and Rashad back to back it’s not entirely off base to give him a title shot IMO. I agree he should worry about this weekend though. I’m actually picking Rashad to win.

I would like to see Chuck move up to HW, but I dont think hes strong enough…his best cahnce would be to use his speed, which is diminishing due to age, and long lanky limbs to counter strike and KO folks. Problem is I just cant see Chuck fighting Kongo or Brock. I dont think Chuck is scared to fight NOG, he said he would like to fight Fedor, so how can he be afraid of Nog? In fact he probably has less respect for nog than anyone else in the HW division.

Exactly, Anyone who can’t see the difference in Randy when he fought Chuck (going through a tough time and retired because his heart wasn’t into it then)and when he fought Sylvia and GG is blind. GG is much more dangerous than Chuck. He has leathal kicks, a great ground game and he is a lot bigger and stronger than Chuck. Randy picked his game way up and it is pretty clear Chuck has slipped a bit lately. I think Randy would beat Chuck now.

The UFC has become more about who can draw the most money than who deserves a title shot. Manchida has beaten Rich Franklin, BJ Penn, Tito Ortiz, big Nog and 8 other guys and has NEVER lost….yet he is not even mentioned as contender for a title shot.
Lesner has had 2 UFC fights and lost one of them yet he gets a shot at the title. This is bad for the sport because it makes it like the WWE in that carisma matters more than merit.
I hope Randy beats Brock in round one because Brock, although talented has not EARNED a title shot…yet.

Machida hasnt fought anybody worth getting him a title shot! Since when is beating Tito get you a shot? (BJ, a LW) (Franklin a MW) and it wasnt big Nog it was little Nog! Those other guys dont mean sh*t! If thats the case why not Thiago and Rashad? They are both undefeated too! I agree its abit early for Lesnar to get a shot, but why would he turn it down?

This is a product of timing as much as it is drawing power. Who else is there for Randy to fight in November? Mir/Nog are fighting in December.

Randy just beat Gonzaga. Kongo is hurt. The only other possible opponent would be Werdum, but he’s already set to fight in October. Plus he was promised a title shot if he won that fight, so it’s probably better for him to wait until the whole duel title thing is sorted out via the minitournament anyway.

The shallowness of the HW division and the timing of TUF DOES make Lesnar one of the, if not the most logical choice. Even before you factor in that it will be the most profitable (and likely a big reason Randy came back since I’m sure he’ll get a ppv %)

I would like to see Machida defeat either Wandi, Rampage, or Liddell before getting a title shot. going to a decision against a lightweight fighter years ago (BJ) beating a middleweight who isn’t even really in the mix of light heavyweights yet (Rich) and almost getting submitted by a fighter who lost his fighting spirit when he got fame (Tito) isnt enough to get a title shot. I am not denying that he is very capable, but he still needs to prove it to everybody. Beating Thiago would be a great start.

The vanilla gorilla is also very over rated. He couldn’t finish Herring, who in round 3 was a doormat. Randy scooped up Gonzaga a few times and slammed him and out boxed Tim Sylvia. Brock layed and prayed for 3 rounds and did nothing on the ground but knee to the side. He has no submissions and will probably get smoked in the face a few times in this one as his stand up stance is very poor.

For real, who deserves a title shot more? A guy who has completely dominated the sport at his weight division for years and fought the best of the best or a new comer who has a 1 in 1 record??mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Liddell is more deserving than any fighter I can think of, it was shocking he didnt get a rematch instantly against rampage considering how long he held the belt for!!!!!!!

While beating Anderson Silva would be a great achievement, I don’t think it would be quite the same as winning the heavyweight belt. This is especially true if he if able to hold both belts in both weight classes simultaneously. I would love to see Chuck Liddell face Anderson Silva though. I would have trouble deciding who I would want to win. Kind of like with Randy and Brock.

MANIA,
Again, my comments aren’t all being posted. Like 2 or 3 are still in limbo. I usually see that they have appeared over night while I am sleeping or they just never show up. I never say anything derogatory. Not trying to be difficult, I am just curious.

If He wants to fight for the heavy weight belt then it shouldn’t matter who has it. You can’t choose your opponents. But What can u expect from a man who is almost 40 and still wears a mohawk. Hes a PUNK and i’ll say it to his face, then i’ll sue him if he hits me =P . HAHA.
SO Im not buying this event chuck isn’t worth the 49.99.
Im Looking forward to seeing Randy put Brock on his back and seeing him spurt around like a fish out of water as randy Smashes him until he taps. A BROKEN LESNER
