“Most of the guys I’ve fought, I’ve been able to pinpoint a weakness in their game. Not with Nate. He is very well rounded, and one of best guys in the UFC. It’s going to be tough, but I am looking forward to it…. Before I was injured, I was supposed to fight in a main event. I got injured and was out for over a year, and people forgot about me. It was a long time out. Now, it’s time to fight my way back and remind people of who I am.”
Martin Kampmann heaps praise on his opponent, Nate Marquardt, at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., on September 6. The article has some great background on “The Hitman” and his journey from competing in small European shows to the Octagon. He also goes into great details about the catastrophic knee injury that nearly cost him his fighting career. Check it out.

I really like this match up. This is one of the fights I am really looking forward too. Nate will grind out a decision.
i think this is an almost impossible fight to call, could go either way, love both of these guys!
True. I myself can’t predict the outcome. And Kampmann’s right, there’s no weakness to NAte’s game that he can expose because Marquardt seems to have all those holes covered up due to him losin’. Nonetheless, I’m sure Kampmann will be the underdog here, which makes me root for him. I also like the fact that he’s British['coz I like Brit-Rock]. But I can’t seem to find a good enough reason to totally like Mike Bisping, I don’t know why…
The facts that he’s british??
Wasn’t he born in Denmark?
And why do you even think he’s a Brit?
He even have a mild Danish accent…
Yep ur right JonnyBoy, Kampmann is a Dane living in US. No connection to UK.
Thanks, good to hear.
I’ve heard on different occasions that he’s from Denmark… he was even resting up there after the injury I remember from seeing him at Inside MMA.
I live quite close to Denmark, southern Sweden to be exact and I hear hints of the Danish accent though he speeks good English IMO.
I mean, how and why would he ever develop Danish accent when living in the UK???
WTF?!? I thought all this time he was Brit! Wow my head’s all messed up!!
This fight will end in the second with strikes from Martin. Nate has decent at best striking skills. The only thing he has is GNP.
he has good submission skills also!
I’m liking Kampmanns chances in this fight and future top contender and possible championship fights. He could push Silva far.
I didn’t forget. Kampmann is still undefeated in the UFC. I can’t wait for this fight. He’s got great submissions and KO power. I don’t see where Nate will be stronger. If he wins he will be 5-0 with wins over some big names in the MW division. 1 more and he deserves a shot at Anderson.
A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread about a European TUF series with Bisping and Kampmann as the 2 team coaches (UK vs Europe). This is going to happen IF both fighters win their upcoming fights.
not a bad idea…also…why can’t they have multiple TUF’s going at once…1 in UK…1 in Caanada…one in US, and so on
Good idea…
i agree! and i like kampmann alot as well. he is an excellent fighter and going by this statement, he has a good head on his shoulders. tuf britain, tuf canada, tuf mexico, im there! ha! im sure this will pi$$ plenty off, but who cares.
This should be a great fight. I really would like to see Marquardt pull out the win and get a rematch w/ Silva.
kampmann has good chances on the feet, if he can keep nate off of him he might pull this off. grapplingwise I think nate is too strong for him.
It was a shitty situation for Kampmann when he hurt his knee. The hardcore fans never forget though… War Kampmann !
I’m a big Kampmann fan. Think he takes this. Gonna be a tough fight though, looking forward to it.
SORRY FOR HIJACK, BUT STILL MMA RELATED. Kaze’s annual conversation:
Yuki Kondo finished off Ryuji Ohori (how do you like his name by the way?). I didn’t see the fight but sherd*g reports it was soccer kick to face, stumbling, take his back, hooks to the face finish. if anybody has the link the video, please hook it up. yuki known for his toelock (lol) is a veteran won/lost to the best of them.
i know there are a lot of grappling guys on this site, and i think you might be interested in yuki’s shorinji kempo techniques. shorinji kempo combines hard/soft techniques (striking and submission). i took it for couple years but wasn’t disciplined enough for its self defense philosophy. both my uncles are 2nd degree black belts. its kind of a mix between karate/judo. they do really acrobatic moves and its big in japan.
don’t get mad, cuz i don’t remember the japanese names…
striking is really karate-ish… but they teach flicks to the eyes, chops to the throat, and open hand bearfist to the nose bone to tear up the eye (for self defense obviously – rumble johnson/burns?)
theres a move where you can snap a guy’s elbow backwards by locking the guy’s arm, other hand on the wrist.
theres a kimura like submission when you flatten the guy out, bend his arm backwards and twist dude’s arm off.
theres takedowns where you twist the guys arm so he falls off balance and flip guys down. (although i think grabbing the glove is illegal in UFC)
check out da shorinji kemo vid – its more interesting to watch than to read.
the biggest knock on it is that just going to class doesn’t prepare you in real fights (diaz/oishi-lol) or if the guy is slippery, nevertheless they’re really painful and doesn’t take a lot of energy to make people squeal.
if anybody’s out there taking classes, i like hearing stories about fights and knowing cool moves, so don’t hold back. happy friday to all the maniacs, shout out to the all the regulars, real fighters, and people selling me mma, be safe on the weekend. Lets bury the hate, and marvel the art.
different variation of kempo – the label says chuck liddell <–?
jiujitzu vs kempo – looks like the kempo guy got choked out
bjj vs judo
aikido vs karate – that guy only has 1 arm
good stuff Kama
thnx bruh, looking forward to hear about your classes, limbs flying, and stuff like that.
Nate wins.
Nope.
YEP.
It should be a really good fight, but Nate wins.
I would say Nate is definitely the bigger/stronger/more well-rounded of the two. I see this fight being pretty simple, if Kampmann can at all set the pace on the feet he will win the fight. Marquardt performs well when he is pushing the action, if Kampmann can tag him with a few shots and get Nate thinking he will win the fight. If Kampmann can’t get a rhythm going the fight will belong to Nate. Grappling Kampmann has the skills but not the size to hang with Nate.
i think thats a pretty good assesment ballam, good post
martin listen up, nate should succumb easily to the rape choke
(props joe rogan), it is the only mma submission hold for which there is no known escape. if you can lock this on then victory will be yours.
Nate’s standup is actually very poor he’s got too much muscles to be a good standup fighter.. in every fight he runs forward with his hands down and just begs to get knocked out, Anderson Silva made him pay for that and so did Thales Leites..
LOL@ “no weaknesses”. Kampmann is just saying that to avoid talking about his gameplan against Nate. Nate has tentative standup; zero knockout power; and is a slow starter in fights. Rest assured that Xtreme Couture will put together a strategy for Kampmann to give Nate a lot more than he can handle.
Nate has done nothing noteworthy his entire time in the UFC. He had unimpressive decisions against journeymen Ivan Salaverry and Dean Lister, and then got torched by Silva. Nate is a solid fighter; but is not the top MW that many fans make him out to be. Kampmann is the better fighter between the two and will beat Nate decisively.
kapmans right there arent many weaknesses to nate the great but there are not many weaknesses to kapman either and i think kapman should take this one via decision.
Kampmann should win this fight if he is able to keep i on the feet. But I think the factor that is still unkown is the condition of Kampmann’s knee. If this affects his movement, and his kicking and striking are limited, he could be put on his back by Nate and gnp’d to a decision.
Anyway I’m rooting for Kampmann! We need a title contender from up here. I’m living in Sweden, and would love to see the UFC come to Stockholm, Sweden. I think Kampmann’s victory, plus David Bielkheden and Per Eklunds victory at UFC 88 will be huge!
