Honestly, I wouldn’t bet on this fight at all. The return on Kimbo simply ain’t worth it, and Shamrock is about a reliable as a French car nowadays!
I like this video, I just evacuated for Hurrican Gustav that is supposed to hit Louisiana, and I know how thoughs things can mess shit up, I was there for Katrina when it hit here also, I never knew He was a good linebacker, and he got fucked out of getting a scholership, he might have been in the NFL, who knows, Instead he was fighting to make a living, and now is trying out MMA, I personally don’t like him as a fighter, But the man is trying and He’s doing it to make a living and suppuort His family. I want to talk about a UFC fighter that doesnt get much publicity and isnt well know to most casual fans.
I am talking about “Stun gun”. THis kid is the real deal. I have been watching footage on this dude all week and he is a MOSTER welterweight. I am going to make a prediction right now:
Stung gun, will be a top 10 welterweight by the end of 2009. Kim is a 6′3 welterweight with tons of athletic ability and strength. THe guy has a viscous ground n pound and is very good at passing guard. Karo is very lucky that he is fighting Yoshida instead of kim because the South Korean stun gun is 1 bad Mofo!
IMO stung gun will beat:

just to name a few. THis kid is going to shoot right into the top 10 of the welterweight division.

I got respect for anyone that puts in the time and gets in the cage. It takes a hell of an athlete to give it all you got for 3, sometimes 5 five minute rounds. And this is against someone who wants to KTFO or rip limbs from your body.

JV, I don’t think I can agree with you on this one.. I don’t really like or dislike Kimbo I could care less about him. But this fight will have huge ratings. Millions of people clame to be MMA fans BUT only a small percentage appreciate the sport.. all the rest just want to see a fight. (like the people who boo when the fight goes to the ground)I bet these wanna-be MMA fans couldn’t name 10 top fighters.. They would probably say kimbo is the best. Those are the people who are going to watch this fight along with the, WWE Fans, the kimbo haters, and the old school fans from ufc 1,2,3&4 who quit watching when it died out. Ken Shamrock draws in ratings.. look at the ratings when he fought Tito one of the highest in the UFC. They even fought 2 more times after that knowing ken was going to get his ass kicked and people still watched it. IMO Kimbo and Ken both suck. I don’t consider them being in the top 50 fighters.(maybe ken in his prime) I’m going to watch it just to see a fight not a MMA fight. They are entertainers not MMA fighters.

Ofcourse Kimbo will bring in big #’s, but thats because its free on CBS. Im curious to see how they do in viewers this time around? If they put Kimbo on Showtime, most people wont pay the money to see it if they dont have Showtime! Like you say, I dont like or dislike Kimbo, but I will watch his fights!

I agree that Kimbo is over-rated, that his street fighting background gives MMA a bad image and that he is only matched up against has-beens that have a legendary name but few fighting skills left, so that he can keeping getting wins. But Kimbo does seem to be humble about his neophyte MMA status and respectful of other fighters. He also seems to be training hard and trying to improve his MMA skills. I can’t blame him for taking advantage of the big pay checks that are offered. Eventually, Elite XC will run out of legends for him to fight and he will have to start fighting real contenders. Hopefully, his skills will have improved enough by that time to still be successful. I like Kimbo and hope he continues to do well. I just wish he would shave off that nasty beard. That should be an MMA rules violation.

That doesn’t mean he’s not ducking legitimate young fighters who are in the prime of their careers, unlike Shamrock and Tank Abbott, who have combined for exactly two wins in their last 16 fights. I don’t care what Mimbo, Rutten or Scumbag Shaw say about his fights, it’s painfully obvious that Mimbo is all about glorified and fixed exhibition matches against geriatric fighters. He wants no part of Brett Rogers or any other up and coming HW fighter.
I think this was pretty cool. I respect him to some degree. He is not a top notch fighter, but I don’t think he would back down from a fight nor is he really scared to fight anyone. If he stays committed, he should be respected for trying. Everyone is upset with him for the wrong reasons. The EliteXC makes the matches, not him. Kimbo wanted Brett Rogers and he publicly stated that. The only thing that I would say that is Kimbos fault is his party lifestyle. But even Chuck Liddell does that. I don’t think Chuck smokes though.

Fair enough, Mic. Fair enough. I wouldn’t say I hate the man personally. Hell, I don’t know the man, so how could I? I wouldn’t even say he’s the worst MMA fighter I’ve had the displeasure of watching. He certainly shows more heart and dedication than whiney shits like Starnes or Lutter. I think the reason so many people have a problem with him, and here is where I find myself guilty so often, is that for many of us, he simply represents the misconception trappings of MMA embodied in a single man.
For years, the image of MMA is something that I think most of us have wished could be ratified and looked upon with more consideration for it’s intricacies and subtleties, or at least I know I did. Many of us have also watched the sport evolve from basically a handful of BJJ artists and an uneducated army of pit fighters. Over the course of the last 15 years, though, the sport has changed and the MMA artists have become a higher evolved athlete from those darker years, and each generation of fighter seems to expand in finer areas where yesterday’s fighters might have been limited. All in all, we’ve all grown to appreciate where this sport started, but almost more importantly, where it’s come.
Enter Kimbo Slice. The man is not the problem. What I see the issue as is that he represents all of this evolution being thrown back into those darker years where fighters of his education walked into the cage to cheers from an ignorant crowd of boozers looking for blood, and lots of it. We don’t like to consider ourselves, the fighters, or the sport in that light anymore, man. We’ve past it, for the most part. Kimbo, however, is unknowingly bringing this kind of attention and fanbase back into a sport that has fought for over a decade to shed it.
Our fear is that Kimbo Slice, while not personally responsible for much of the hype or praise gifted to him, is sending MMA backwards again. All violence for the sake of violence, and no concern for the subtler nuances that set this sport apart from pit fighting.
If, I think, Kimbo is someday willing to risk a loss instead of accepting lopsided fights (and don’t ever think he doesn’t have a say in who he fights, my man) and subsequently continues to train, we might see a Kimbo Slice evolve just as our sport has. The day he begins excelling at submissions, displaying a well-executed ground game and building an athlete’s cardio, he just might help educate the new fans he’s brought to the sport.
Then, and only then, can the rest of us relax, stop worrying for the future of our sport, and accept having to call him by some ridiculous street-theater name like Kimbo Slice instead of Kevin Ferguson. Till then, it’s just pretentious, insulting, and infuriating.

I hope Kimbo actually gets good. It seems inevitable that elitexc is going out of business, I really dont see cbs keeping them on air either. The ratings for their last show were lower as expected, but low enough to show that MMA or EliteXC gained any fans… just kimbo and gina. Not that I dont hope they turn things around, I just cant imagine they are making a whole lot of money right now. Anyways if kimbo does improve hopefully he can earn a spot in the UFC which I think we all agree has better capabilities to bring in new fans.

No seriously, ok here is the deal kimbo is a 1 dem,fighter and not that good at what he does cause he gasses. if he was serious he would get with a better camp,he will get caught if he keeps fight the way he does,and what is worse is that it will be,judging on what elite has thrown at him a washed up old fighter that will ruin his chances of becoming anybody in the sport. Kimbo get away from bas get with a good jits trainer and cardio,let go of ur stupid ass possy, try to sign with a good company.Tht would test u so you know where your at and wgere u could be… Att would be good learn kicks also aka,the pit ,or extreme cotoure would be great learning game plans insted of just head hunting. I would put a bet on Shamrock but due to how the last fight was reffed and ultimately how the fight was called, I am very suspicious of elitexc. Josh Thompson layed on Kimbo and hit him in the head like 20 times unprotected and there was no warning and obviously they did not stop the fight. Thats crazy, it was like a different set of rules. So I would not bet my hard earned money on a fight that could or could not be called fairly.
I think Kimbo is trying his best and he is learning. Thing is that he is “from the streets”, so he may not be taking his training seriously. The thing is the top guys are all very skilled and technical. They are not going to be intimidated by Kimbo’s muscles or anything like that. If he is going to stay around he is going to have to respect the art and respect his training. Some things I don’t know if he can do.
Personally, I do think he is negative on the sport because he doesn’t represent sportsmanship, athleticism, and discipline of somebody like GSP. New fans of MMA might look at him and say, “oooh i want to learn MMA so I can knock guys out like Kimbo.” when in reality thats the last thing a true martial artist thinks of. He is a thug or a “bad boy” so of course uneducated fans like him but he is doing nothing of improving the sport or the art.

I feel a little bad that everyone keeps on ragging on Kimbo. Personally I think he doesn’t seem like a bad guy and in reality you can’t blame the guy for the promoter pushing the guy too early. He is trying to make a living you can’t blame the guy for that, and people want to see the guy so he should get paid. My issue isn’t with Kimbo but for EliteXC for pushing a guy who is unproven and really not ready for main event status. If he was in the UFC he would still be promoted just as hard however they would test him with better opponents. That is the way it should be done don’t feed this guy washed up fighters or cans because when he finally fights a qualified fighter he will get crushed. Bring the guy along slowly sure but do it with better opponents that way he will be a better fighter in the end.
Maybe Bas made Kimbo take the fight,in maybe hoping Kimbo ko’s Ken for revenge for the loses to ken in the 90’s.

You know, like him or not, it’s pretty amazing to see what this dude has gone through to get to where he’s at. When all I knew about him was youtube videos, I thought he was a punk thug. Now I think he’s a pretty ok guy who I cheer for during every fight.
Let kimbo fight who he wants when he wants we should all cut him some slack. He is going out and doing what he loves to do regardless of the out come. Eventually he is going to get beat but why trash talk him tell then.
