Elite XC fight card takes shape for ‘Saturday Night Fights’ at Bank Atlantic Center
By: James Iannotti
Five fighters will likely compete on the under card of “Saturday Night Fights on CBS III” at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., on October 4.
In a 160-pound bout, BJ Penn-trainee Mike Aina (9-6-1) will face off against Florida native James Edson Berto (14-5-1) — this bout is official. UFC veterans Crafton Wallace (15-3-1) and Seth Petruzelli (9-4), as well as undefeated Muay Thai specialist Lorenzo Borgomeo (4-0), are also expected to be in action against yet to be determined opponents.
Aina opened a lot of eyes with a strong performance against number one division contender Nick Diaz at Elite XC: “Uprising” last September. In fact, many people believe the Hawaiian got hosed in the split decision loss. He took a brief hiatus from competition and was able to rebound with a unanimous decision victory over Kaleo Kwan at “Return of the King” nine months later.
Berto has been competitive in all four of his fights under the Elite XC banner, but has fallen victim to two highlight reel knockouts at the hands of now champion KJ Noons and former number one contender Yves Edwards. He was victorious in the other two bouts, finishing John Shackleford and Victor Valenzuela each in impressive fashion.
Wallace was unsuccessful in two trips to the UFC octagon while facing stellar competition in Nate Marquardt and Martin Kampmann. Since the loss to Marquardt near the end of 2006, he has ran off four consecutive wins in the smaller shows. He is a great athlete and belongs in one of the top organizations such as Elite XC.
Borgomeo is the childhood best friend of UFC fighter Alessio Sakara. Sakara introduced his pal to MMA, bringing him to the United States to train with one of the top camps around at American Top Team. He made his Elite XC debut in February at “Street Certified” with a second round submission victory over Mike Bernhard.
Nobody has been able to last past the second round against the Italian.
None of the four bouts are expected to make the CBS telecast, but each should be exciting fights for the fans at the Bank Atlantic Center on October 4. Elite XC usually streams the under card fights live on ProElite.com. However, the promotion has not officially announced plans to do that for this event, but we’ll let you know if and when they do.

I rather watch WWE then this joke… Let me guess are we going to have fireworks, girls dancing, and philp boroni type antics again……..BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
mikeybear: Reading your posts is a joke! Its a damn undercard, xomething you will never even get to see, so what is there to complain about? This event will still feature a great fight between Sheilds vs. Daley, and we will get to see both Gina and cyborg (who I want to Bang) in action. Along with a solid fight between Benji vs. Ninja!
EliteXC has done every well in toning down their undesirable antics. This is a solid card, especially when FREE!
No its not.
I do believe I have been moded!
I HOPE XC folds. I hope Kimbo gets choked out! I hope Nick Diaz gets back in the UFC!!!
Silva vs Filho : Could it Happen???

Interesting phil. I wouldn’t mind seeing it, but I honestly dont think that Filho has anything for Anderson. Filho’s only chance would be to turn it into a grappling match.
As bad as I want to see competition in the MMA market, I can’t get past the fact that most of XC’s fighters are guys that were eventually, unsuccesful in the UFC. I know there a few exceptions, but lets be honst, this is not where a fighter wants to finish thier career. If you’re an up and coming guy, I get it, but other than that it’s alway going to be second tier to the UFC, (if it can even stay in operations). I think Affliction actually has an opportunity to be known for an oranization made up of 1st class fighters. Maybe not in every weight class, but as long as they are headlining with guys like Fedor and Arlovski, and so on, as opposed to guys like Kimbo and Baroni, they should be able to stave off the “second tier” accusations. However, this is to say nothing about thier business savvy or the wisdom in paying guys that kind of cash, but at least they have some great fighters. I just think that XC is really smelling up the place, and I would’nt cry a tear if it just quietly went in to the night.
…and there it is.
Well, I don’t see my comment and I don’t have the patience to rewrite. Sigh…So, in a nut shell:
XC: dissapointing
Affliction: Potential
UFC: hard to beat
Oh, and something about XC just going quietly into the night.
I will be in Coral Springs, Fl around the time this happens. Its not far from the Bank Atlantic center. I still would not go if I was given free tickets.
i hope edson berto wins…
