Up-and-coming lightweights Chris Horodecki (12-1) and Dan Lauzon (10–2) are expected to tangle at Affliction: “Day of Reckoning” at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 11.
Sherdog.com was today able to confirm that the long-rumored match up has been agreed to by both fighters and is just awaiting signatures on the bout agreements.
Horodecki — the former International Fight League (IFL) 155-pound champion –- made his debut for the promotion back in June 2006, going 8-1 and looking sensational in the process. At just 20 years old, Horodecki has already made a name for himself in mixed martial arts, evident in the courtship that followed the demise of the IFL.
Among the suitors were WEC, Affliction and the American Fight League (AFL). Even World Victory Road got in on the action, which considered Horodecki as a potential opponent for lightweight diety Takanori Gomi at August’s ‘Sengoku’ event.
The Canadian has just one career loss –- a lopsided beatdown courtesy of Ryan Schultz at the IFL World Grand Prix Finals in December 2007.
Lauzon –- the younger brother of top UFC lightweight contender Joe Lauzon –- was the youngest fighter to ever compete inside the Octagon at 18 years of age back in 2006. He was essentially thrown to the wolves, getting paired up against veteran Spencer Fisher in his debut.
It didn’t last long –- Fisher finished Lauzon via technical knockout in round one. He then took on another very good opponent in his next fight against Deividas Taurosevicius, losing to the talented Lithuanian via submission (rear naked choke).
Since those back-to-back defeats, however, Lauzon has won six straight. And he’s finished every single one of his opponents during that span. He was also featured in a controversial episode of the “Tapout” reality shows that airs on Versus.
Affliction “Day of Reckoning” takes place on October 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring the main event of Josh “The Babyface Assassin” Barnett (23-5) vs. Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski (13-5).

Lauzon has fought tougher competition and his brother is a bad bad man. I’d say this one goes to him. Horodecki is like Huerta. He gets bonus points for being a poster boy, but really isn’t top tier yet.
This will be an excellent fight between 2 of the youngest stars of the LW division! The Polish Hammer will have an advantage standing, and Lauzon will have an advantage in self defense and training with tweeners.
You gotta give Chris and his camp the edge in this fight despite his lack of ground skills.
This is an excellent match up for sure! I say Advantage to the Polish Hammer. He has fought on a big stage plantty of times. All he needs to do is work his takedown defense, keep the fight standing, and pick Dan’s apart!
Great fight, I really look forward to watching these 2 young bright stars.
DAM! I was really hopeing the UFC would have picked Chris up! Or atleast the WEC? I dont know much about Dan, so my pick is Horodecki.
did anyone watch the bonus features on tuf 5?? well if you didnt theres like a 10 minute front yard brawl with joe and dan. it was pretty interesting to watch.
VM. i agree. this is probably the cheapest payout for affliction and could end up being fight of the night. who knows? smart move on afflictions part. this is how to start a fight org. sign guys who have some name recognition(to hardcore fans) and build off of them. if affliction can stay afloat(a big if) and keep making moves like this, they could possibly succseed.
I cant stand Horodecki… but he is a good fighter. I dont think Dan is going to make it through this one. I hope he wins but dont see it happening. His punches are too wide and uncontrolled. Horodecki is great with the scramble and has great stand up.
Horodecki by ko/sub round 2 at the latest. Wont be surprised if its the first round.
I think Horedecki will win. Lauzon looked kind of crappy in his fight on Tapout. His training program looked crappy as well.
Horedecki looks more like a 145lbr, but Hammer definitely wins.
“He was also featured in a controversial episode of the “Tapout” reality shows that airs on Versus.”
What was conterversial about that episode?
Yes, Mania. I am curious now. What was the hype about?
From Joe Lauzon’s official site:
The Tapout Show with Dan was Garbage
August 07, 2008
My Brother was on a recent episode of the Tapout show… and the whole thing came off terribly.
Training Hard on Tuesday when the fight is Friday? Terrible idea. The Tapout crew showed up on Monday when the fight was on Friday. What kind of training footage did they really expect to get? They wanted shark baits with fresh guys 4 days before the fight? Are they nuts? I love how they act like the authority on training and fighting when they would even suggest this. We do shark baits like this… when its not 4 days before the fight. Had they come the week before, you would have seen plenty of that. You would have seen one fresh guy after another rotating on Dan to work on his cardio and conditioning.
Going to Sityodtong was never something we wanted to do. Dan didnt want to go, but they pushed the issue and Dan finally caved to make them happy. They were not doing anything different than what we do… but we arent training like that the week of the fight. Mask offers his words of wisdom with “I like how he changes levels” like we have never seen someone shoot a double before. I am not sure who Mask thought he was talking to, but you dont get into the UFC when you have never seen a wrestler. Dan didnt really want to be there because I was fighting Kenny a few months later, and I am sure they felt the same way. There has been a lot of tension between the camps for some time and its definitely healthy competition more so than actually dislike… but its weird for everyone involved when that happens.
They did a horrible job of cutting up audio and chopping it into their own little story. They take bits of pieces of what everyone says, twist it out of context and then splice in clips of Dan saying “yea… yup… okay” to make it all seem the way they want to portray it.
Dan was training with Guido, the 15 year, old a few days before the fight. Now does Guido really offer any bit of a challenge? Absolutely not. However, Dan was there to sweat out and lose weight and just move around. It didnt matter who he was working out with and Guido loves the beatings so Dan was rolling around with him. But obviously, they make it seem like Guido is Dans primary training partner.
The whole “I am so sad my corners are going to be late” angle was pretty hypocritical as well. Dans corners were not going to be there right when the show started, but they were there in plenty of time to get him prepared for his fight. This was Dans 11th fight and he had the other guys from the gym there with him. He wasnt sitting alone in a corner somewhere, but thank god he didnt sit down for a moment without other people in the show or I am sure Tapout would have shown Dan sitting all alone as they played some sad and depressing music.
They made the gyms, the trainers and the training partners all look like garbage. I started at this gym and have done well training out of there… and Dan has too along with a bunch of other guys. We are doing pretty good for a small gym and didnt need to be shit on like that.
Was it good TV? Maybe for some. Was it a load of bullshit? Absolutely.
Thanks Mania!!! now it all makes sense.
ah ok
I was going to ask the same question.
Interesting.
After all, the show had to be beneficial to Dan because more people know who he is now as opposed to before the show aired.
And the fact of the matter is that Dan does not train at an MMA facility. He takes Boxing one place, and BJJ at a different place. And, he seemed to be the most advanced person at both places, so sparring/rolling partners of equal level is impossible. You do not get better by training with people that are worse than you. You need to train with the best to be the best.
Is Joe the only one upset about the episode, or does Dan feel the same way? I think Joe is just sour that he is the monkey looking sibling, and his younger brother is an Upgrade!
Wow, that’s really annoying. I like watching that show because you get to see some of the behind the scenes things going on in the world of MMA and you get to see an up an commer fight at the end. But it is things like this that make you just not want to sift through the garbage on the show to get to the good stuff if its just going to be fabricated junk. Lame.
V1: I pretty much see it the same way as you did. I under stadn the point of being 4 days out from a fight.. and long and soft training..because the hard training has passed already.. but between the Boxing spot and the recreational type Jits spot.. Dan was the BigDog in both spots.. even if they were going to do Shark bait drills.. I agreed totally with mask when he said.. ” You should always roll with 3 or 4 guys that can beat you daily. “
The episode itself wasn’t controversial at all, but Dan’s Brother Joe went on a tirade posting hate towards the TapouT crew on his website. Joe said he didn’t like how the gyms him and his brother did/currently train at, were portrayed. Honestly, Joe needs to take a chill pill because the episode was great, and any remarks about the gym(s) being less than great, are absolutely true. Dan needed to get away from that horrid boxing coach and terrible self-defense-and-now-self-proclaimed Jitsu coach.
n/m, Mania just posted it
WebGarden, sound like u have personal knowledge of that gym and coach?… I don’t know but the Lauzons brothers came out of the gates kickin’ ass.
3 grown men dressing up like idiots and giving themselves superhero names isn’t controversial? Ok, maybe not controversial, but it is really, really gay.
Yeah, I could do without the lame nicknames and costumes too.
The costumes and stuff are harmless, and just for fun. I mean, at the core of it all, they are helping up ‘n’ coming fighters. That’s what matters to me…not how “gay” they appear.
I call BS. They are helping themselves with their gimmicky, crappy schtick to sell their clothing line to posers and wannabes.
I agree OJR. I watched one episode where they just made the guy a superhero costume as well. I respect that they are in fact helping up and comers get a little notice but I would say their primary goal is to just earn some dough and promote heavily in the shows.
OJR. me too. i think that they have helped up and comers in the past, but now see to have gotten big heads, and are more focused on themselves now instead of the fighters. mask always talks like he is reading scripture from the bible. plus you would think mask’s hand would start to hurt from patting himself on the back so much. reminds me alot of kevein. lol!
everytime i watch that damn show i just wish mask and scrape would shut up and let punkass do everything. he doesnt seem like that much of a moron compared to them. he does all the hard work anyways, and he seems actually serious about his work. i feel bad for him always having to deal with those asses
WebGarden, perhaps “gay” was too strong a word. So I’ll go with either assinine or riciculous. I’m glad that they help up and coming fighters and I respect they are building a brand and making money. But I tried watching the show a handful of times, and I just can’t get past grown men dressing and acting like that, especially since they say they are ALWAYS in character. Maybe I’m getting to old to relate to those childish antics.
Chefdaddy, if the show was anything else other than MMA I would refuse to watch it. I’ll scan channels and run across it… usually catching a rerun if nothings better on.
It’s a shame, because a show like that could be sooo’ much better.
Agreed THORAZINE!!! Fantastic premise, douchebag main characters. We all (I presume) want to see more into the business side of MMA, but more importantly, into the lives and training of the fighters. But these guys are such @ssclowns, that I can’t take one f*cking thing seriously. Like I posted before, maybe I’m getting old, but I gave up dressing like a superhero when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. I just can’t associate with these guys on any level whatsoever. So, I will quit my b*tching, and continue to not watch the show.
WORD!!!!
LOL… I haven’t decided if them having a show helps or hurts the sport? They remind me of heavy metal bands from the 80’s, that try way to hard.
I’m all for Dan in this fight. Horodecki the 8yr old will get torn a new one, for sure.
Aren’t they like the same age, deuche?
isn’t “deuche” spelled douche, dork?
ROFL nice
that beatdown by Shultz was Sick!!
Hell yeah it was. That made my whole month. I was the happiest person in the world to see that. Horodecki is a cocky mofo. I hope to see him take another brutal beat down soon.
On the topic of TapOut, did anyone watch this week? We’ve all been hearing alot about Team Takedown and Jake Rosholt lately and him and Johnie Hendricks were featured this past week. I had already seen the fight against Chad Jay on HDnet but I love seeing the inside training.
My question is this, Do you believe the hype that Jake Rosholt could be the next big thing in the MW division?
After watching that episode, my answer is a resounding YES. It is absolutely possible, but nothing in MMA is a given. But with his raw athletic ability and strength combined with his work ethic makes for a VERY dangerous fighter. Keep working them hands and BJJ and he is going to be something special!
True.. on another Tapout topic..did you see the episode that featured the catch weight fight at 161. The Mcantyire( Something like that ).. That episode inspired me. The guy had Colon Cancer!!!! They had to remove his F’n Colon.. for every 3 bottles of water drinks.. it ’s like drinking one. That guy is the man. His opponet from Greg Jackson’s come off..like the only prick.. granted he didn’t know about homeboys medical situ.. but damn.. it was qtr-pound that he bitched about.. I sure if he didn’t feel like a dick then. he felt like a dick when watching that episode.
Anyone ever see the video that Dan made before Joe’s fight with Kenny making fun of how Kenny says “I finish fights”? Ever since that video I have had a dis-like for him.
I have yet to see that vid.. got a link?
Here ya go…it is pretty hilarious.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSuunj8YAjc
Thx man.. they didn’t have nothing better to do with their time??
Hahaha – well, Joe is still a tech geek at heart so I’m not really surprised. Plus, Dan seems more than happy to goof off in front of the camera. So while they entertain themselves in a hotel room (probably killing time waiting for fight night), we get goofy ass YouTube clips to laugh at. The hotel bathrobe and lamp shade were priceless though – LOL!
yeah i was impressed too, greg macyntire has heart!
as for rosholt, that guy he fought was no joke and he broke his hand in the first round and still controlled the fight with his wrestling and got his tko. awesome athlete
Check ME Out!
Mania- I’m pretty sure Horedecki was never the champ. He lost the first ever fight for the belt against Shultze.
Your right.
This one is a gimme. I saw Horodecki in person a few weeks ago. The guy is like 180lbs.
Horodecki’s been working big time on his wrestling and takedown defense.
Horodecki by KO, round 1. Mark my words!!
Horodeki’s 180? he looks like he could lose a few at 155lbs.
if you base dan’s standup skills based on the episode of tapout, then you don’t know what you’re talking about. look for highlights of his fight with brendan hoxie back in june and you will have a whole different view on dan’s standup skills. the tapout episode was almost a year ago and he even admited it was sloppy
