Elite XC Vice President Jared Shaw reveals he has been trying to put together a KJ Noons and Nick Diaz rematch for Noons’ lightweight title on the October 4 “Saturday Night Fights on CBS” event, but is having a hard time getting Noons’ camp to accept the fight. Could it be that Nick Diaz was right all along and the champ really is ducking a rematch? Of course, Noons did say in an interview right here on MMAmania.com that he didn’t really have a desire to fight on a CBS card, and he also said he planned on taking a couple boxing fights after his title defense against Yves Edwards. It’s possible that those things could be holding this fight up … we don’t know. What we do know is that Elite XC wants the fight to happen, and now it’s on Noons to step up.

Were do you train at? I have been training for 9 months and I am still a white belt with one stripe… BJJ takes ten plus years for black.

nice john….its hard to find camp with a good wrestling program as well as a good jits class…together that is…i live in Louisville Ky and im having trouble finding a good camp witha good wrestling base..too much all jits gyms here…i love jiu-jitsu…but the i come up against a real wrestler who has been taking jits…i know im gonna get out hustled by him. good luck bro. newguythegunman…i hear ya weve got a pable popavitch guy who is doing that and dissing wrestling at the same time.
Personally I feel bad for the BJ Penn’s Pe De Pano’s whom gotten their BLk belts in 4 years flat.. The destination is not as important as the journey to a Bjj blk belt.

Phil, John, Kevin or anybody that actually trains MMA. I have two boys, 14 & 11. They both want to train either MMA or BJJ. I’m Ok with it, so is mom. Recommed or not? Any advice?
I know moving up in levels is going to take a lot of time, I just want to get the whole “white belt” stage over with. Nah mean? lol
Phil, I want to focus more on NO GI Jits, but to start off is it better that I just go into “Gi” training? Or should I just skip the Gi altogether and jump right into “No Gi”?

Jrandolph: Ah man.. That’s awesome. I’m all for kids learning Martial Arts.. I personnally would just keep the kids in BJJ.. it’s safer and alot of fun for kids..The MMA idea is something you can introduce them to along with BJJ now or later on.. Wrestling is +, Boxing/Muay Thai depends on them and if they really want to do striking at this stage of their learning process. I would sign them up to BJJ.. Get them a Gi.. get them some grappling shorts and tops.. and leave them on the mat.. in time they will be who they want to be. Find a good BJJ school that offers Kids/teen classes.. if you want to join the party.. put a Gi on yourself.. it can definitly help if they see you having fun too.. I have no kids today.. but if i ever do.. They are in BIG trouble.. NO BASEBALL.. NO FOOTBALL.. BBALL.. My kid will be born a MAT!..

I would strongly suggest to start your kids in one area to start off. They need a good base, after they get a good base, then they can start MMA, or boxing or something.
So I would suggest you start them of in BJJ.
jrandolph, definitely start them with bjj. my son plays football and basketball too! He’s almost 7, and could rip my arm off if he wanted too. I feel bad for any older kid that tries to take his lunch money this year (he’s starting 1st grade)
I was thinking Bjj at first as well. I realy like the discipline of the training. Also my oldest can put his legs behind is head and walk around on his hands. He is naturally flexible and loves the submission stuff.
Not a bad idea, training with them, I actually might do it rather than going to the gym. I am in pretty good shape, but I am way too old (36) to be getting hit on. So Bjj sounds like the way to go. It also looks like a good opprotunity to spend time with the kids.

I can understand taking personality into account when deciding who you will be a fan of. But it’s not a personality contest, it’s about which fighter would make the better champion: the guy who ducks fights, or the guy who fight anyone at anytime.

He might own the lightweight belt for EliteXC, but he’s still a nobody when stacked up with the best in the world. I do think he needs to fight Diaz again, but I don’t think either one of them is really deserving of being called a champion.
Maybe Penn could wear a disguise (cheesy moustache and glasses) and go to Elite and give Nancy Boy a spanking.
ive read that noons is contracted to GARY SHAW to 2mma fights and 2 boxing matches. with the shaws who’s to not what’s true and what isnt true. that shows you the ignorance of pro-elite. they should definetly strip noons of the title, but if they let him sign a contract with a champions clause where he can pick who he fights and when he fights is their own stupidity. if noons wants to be a boxer, he should give up his belt, retire from mma and box. jake shields has already said that he didnt think that the rematch was ever gonna happen because of noons boxing contract with gary shaw. what a farce, father and son working together but saying 2 different things. i have always found it strange that jared always refers to his father as “gary” and not dad.(unless he is adopted, but even then, very wierd).

It is not a good sign when the VP of the org in which you fight is calling you out. Either it is by design (to craft a mega grudge match), or it is just silliness coming from Noons camp. I wouldn’t put it past EliteXC to invent a hubbub to create buzz.

I am sick of their - Moderate MMA stars(i.e UFC rejects) vs Cans format as a pitch for why people should watch them. KJ Noons is a complete douche bag. He proved that to the world on his Inside MMA appearence. To show up for the show with a picture of the guy’s face, with a lame, rehearsed little speech just proves how little class he has. Especially when you take into consideration that no fighter actually ever wants the fight to stop due to a cut. Diaz could have kept going if it were up to him.
I know one can argue that a fighter should defend themselves, etc, etc…granted. Diaz cuts like butter. But at least he keeps fighting.
Too bad Diaz would most likely come out striking against Noons. Because if he came out and made him tap, that would be a real way to make a bitch out of Noons. But that’s just my opinion. I’m a submission guy. Tap outs are voluntary, knock outs are the body simply shutting down. Tap outs aren’t lucky, knock outs can be.
I see this move by Shaw to be very financially motivated seeing as the next show on CBS could be make or break for Elite XC, and I don’t think he really cares about who the No. 1 contender really is, if not Diaz. But regardless of the motivation, it is the fight everyone wants to see.

Do you think he could be holding out for a behind-the-scenes deal with another promo? Affliction? I doubt his EliteXC contract would allow it, but I don’t know how EliteXC contracts are structured. Shields (Strikeforce) seems to want to fight at an Affliction event, though I think that would be very risky for his main promotion, especially if he gets beat (lowers the drawing-power of their champ). Anyway, I realize this is total blind speculation. Just throwing it out there.

i think GARY SHAW might be the one holding this fight back. he has noons contracted to 2 boxing matches as well as mma. i mentioned this in a post above about the inept ways of the shaws and pro elite. at least noons should come out and make a staement about the whole deal. i argued a while back that i didnt think noons was ducking diaz because of their 1rst fight. i think the cuts diaz suffered, saved him from a lopsided decision or his 1rst ko loss cuz noons was whoopin that a$$. diaz was getting beat to the punch and could’nt come close to taking noons down and looked slow as molassess, but the way things are transpiring now, it’s hard for me to still make that arguement. it really does look like noons is ducking diaz. noons is coming across as a chickensht and needs to atone for himself and quit making excuses.

This is a MUST see video. BJ Penn talks about his upcoming fight with GSP. The lady giving the interview is asking some pretty tough questions. BJ also talks about what will happen with his fight against Kenflo after the GSP fight. It is also interesting to noe that Penn was stuck in his hotel elevator the weekend of UFC 87 in Minnesota.

Regardless of what you think about the Diaz brothers they are both good fighters. Classless, thugs, or whatever, they bring excitment to the ring. Is it good for the sport, maybe not. But is KJ NOONs champ worthy? Not at all. When was the last time you heard a fighter happy about winning a cut stoppage? That is lame. Are they top 5 no, but there style works for them. They way they work, they get beat up. As your confidence builds, you open up, next thing you know you are on the floor, half asleep in a triangle. Nick cuts like butter from all of the scar tissue, but that won’t happen again because of he had the surgery to remove the scar tissue. Those of you who think Nick has no hands why don’t you ask Chris Lytle(who is considered one of the better boxers in MMA). Robbie Lawler(gave Nick everything he had) and he got KO’d by Nick. Sean Sherk couldn’t shut finish him and Diego while he was on fire barely got by him. Like I said he is MMA’s greatest not even close. Is he a top tier fighter, yes. He has been in with some great competion and has stood his ground. What has KJ Noons done. HE got KO’d in 20 seconds by a guy whonever trains and sells dope for a living (Crazy Horse)….
