jason macdonald vs jason lambert ufc 88
It’s Jason mania.

Jason MacDonald (20-10) will fill-in for an injured Jason Day and take on Jason Lambert (23-8) in a middleweight bout at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., on September 6, according to Sherdog.com.

“Dooms” apparently hurt his biceps muscle while training for the fight and was forced to withdraw, opening the window of opportunity for another Canadian to claim redemption.

“The Athlete” is coming off a third round submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC 87: “Seek and Destroy” earlier this month. It marked the third loss in his last five attempts inside the Octagon — quite a departure from his early success that earned MacDonald the nickname “TUF Killer.”

Lambert appears to be making the drop to middleweight after competing most of his career in the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions. Perhaps back-to-back losses to 205-pounders Wilson Gouveia and Luis Arthur Cane, respectively, convinced Lambert to try his luck in the 185-pound division.

“The Punisher” — like MacDonald — has three losses in his last five attempts within the eight-sided cage.

This match up isnt brain surgery. Standing up Lambert has a MOnster advantage. On the ground its McDonalds world. THe only question is can “The talented Fairy” get the fight to the ground? I say NO! Lambert has shown decent takedown defense at 205, so I believe that he will be tough to take down at middleweight and J-mac is too much of a Fairy to drag him down to the mat, which means the fight will stay standing for however long it takes “Man Boobs” to KO the “Talented Fairy”!

By the way, my sources are telling me BJ will fight Ken flo in december and then fight GSP in feb (if all goes right) at the superbowl show! GSP is a pussy!!!

Kevin, you really like to run your mouth about GSP when it comes to the potential Penn fight. GSP clearly is taking a much needed break for a few months, which in turn makes BJ do the right thing and attempt to defend his title against an extremely game Florian first. GSP knows BJ should take care of priorities by taking on Kenny at the end of the year. It’s astonishing to me how many fans of MMA follow BJ’s disrespectful antics without question.

F**k!! I was really hypin’ all of my friends up for the GSP_Penn match! But alas, we have to wait 2 months more[if all goes well]!…And I was also lookin’ forward for Doomsday to end Lamberts days!! But in any case, Ronald Macdonald will still be a good sub!

Lambert should take this one pretty easy. He’s very underestimated on the ground and he has very good GNP as well. He should be a force in the MW division

lol @ webgardenPriorities? as a fight fan, the only priorities I feel fighters have is to accept fights that everyone wants to see! Disrespect? It’s called hype, or selling a fight. You need to go to a marketing class!

My one question to that is how will BJ fight florian in december then “put on the weight correctly” to fight GSP in February?

John:
So much for the “Fairy”….. he controlled the fight except for the last 15 seconds of round 1. JMac’s stand up was superior to Lambert and once he got him to the ground, it was lights out.
Shouldn’t run your mouth to quickly next time.

News Worthy:

at the UFC 90 press conference, Alves said that he is weighing about 200 lbs right now and it wont be a problem getting down to 170, I hear that Dana gave him a dirty look. No Problems this kid will get the weight cut down. Keep in mind he debuted at lightweight but that was before he was so diesel.

Because GSP wont fight Penn on the December card, NBS is reporting that the UFC is looking at several mage fights to fill the void:

Wanderlie vs. Forrest (title)
Chuck vs. Anderson Silva
BJ vs. Florian (title)

Any of those will do!

I saw a picture Of my Boy Akahiro Gono, and he looks to be in top Form! I cant wait to see him fight again at UFC 89 against a very GAME Englishmen, Dan Hardy!

2008-08-19 18:37:00

Dave Meltzer is reporting UFC monteol in december. I heard the same as you john, BJ/Florian decembe, BJ/GSP superbowl show. Who knows at this point!

john. you liked that naked photo of gono. for shame! lol! and alves at 200. damn ive heard that fitch walks around that weight, when he’s not an any kind of training, and he’s 6″1. whats alves 5″9. he also mentioned again that he was 4 lbs over against hughes cuz he twisted his ankle 10 days prior and claims he couldnt do any cardio. has he ever heard of a stationary bike, a sauna perhaps. i’ll agree with you on one thing, he will make weight (he’d better) but he wont win. id rather see bj vs fitch or even kos at ww in december than florian(mismatch) at lw. fitch is dying to redeem himself, lets see if bj fares as well as gsp did.

Long time no blog fellas:

Just got back from Mexico (vacation)

Thursday Thoughts by OJR – UFC 87 !!!

After watching GSP’s dominating performance over Fitch…I don’t see BJ winning and I am a BJ nuthugger.

Brock is an incredible athlete but he needs to chill with the WWE tactics (no shoving your opponent after the bell rings).

I howled for joy after watching Emerson ko Manny. I really dislike Manny G. so that was a sweet sense of satisfaction for me.

Maia’s jits is scary and McDonald (sp?) is an absolute moron.

Kongo did not impress me. Viking looked like a scared queen.

What did I miss?

Did Stinky post his $500,000.00 winnings? Hahahaha

JV i agree man…i use to love BJ and then i hated him when went off on his whole crazy fighting and out of shape adventure and losing fights that he should have won…then i started to love him again after he came back and just walked through Stevenson and shirk. BJ has improved for sure…condition wise. but GSP is just on a crazy level of athlete right now. if BJ doesn’t keep careful when he doesn’t cut the weight right for his return at 170…he is in for a long night…although I’m sure he will give GSP another bloody nose while this happens. GSP wins.

OJR the BJ fans seem to be few and far between, don’t turn you back on him already. Considering some things GSP has been saying it leads me to believe something is going on? I don’t know if you saw this on Mania. Scared???

BNF, I dont want to just talk sh*t? Like the youngsters say (Im keepin it real) How can you guys think GSP is scared? Would you be scared of a guy you already beat? Theres nothing wrong with shutting it down for the rest of the year! I think it has to do with contract negotiations BNF.

I don’t think he is scared, I just don’t see GSP acting very enthuastic and I have know idea why. He has never once seemed interested in fighting BJ, in the interviews before the Fitch fight, when BJ came into the ring, and with that statement I posted. He can take 1-1/2 months off and still have 12 weeks to get ready for BJ, so what is the problem? When was the last time you had 6 weeks off from your job? BJ said he just took 2 months off and wants to start training now for a December fight, why won’t GSP step up?

Comment by Shadyone33
2008-08-20 08:39:49

I think he doesn’t like BJ because of the special treatment he gets. The first time they fought, GSP was about to get a title shot and BJ comes in and interupts it. This time, he walks in during his interview and doesn’t leave him time to thank his family or sponsors and this time demands a shot at the title. Would you not feel disrespected?

OJR. welcome back. i agree with all your statements. i think that will be the last time you see brock behave in that manner. espn’s mmalive reported that herring and his camp had alot negative things to say before the fight (including herring complaining to dana that brock didnt even deserve to fight him before the fight) and now herring is saying he doesnt remember any of that. yeah right, and i think brock is usually a pretty repectful guy. how anyone could not be totally impreesed with gsp’s performance against fitch is beyond me, and there were a few. the big news out of that was gsp wanting to push the fight back to early 09 instead of dec 08 becuase of all the fights he’s had in the past 12 months and quite a few fans are saying he is scared of bj because of this. hogwash imo. they are both great fighters and i dont believe either is afraid of the other. oh well, once again welcome back!

BNF-

I love BJ but GSP looked laser sharp. I give BJ a 50/50 shot if he comes in GREAT shape. Otherwise, I see BJ giving GSP hell before slowing down and succumbing to GSP’s superior athleticism.

I am still a BJ fan and I will be actively pulling for BJ but I will not deny GSP’s talent.

JV-

You gotta love Stinky! Maybe he had dinner w/ Phelps? ;)

“‘Dooms’ apparently hurt his biceps muscle while training for the fight…”

I don’t know why I found this to be amusing. I suppose even people with menacing nicknames are subject to getting boo-boos. Just look at the “Soul Assassin”.

Anyway, Jason MacDonald provides for a great match-up. Whether it was Day-Lambert or MacDonald-Lambert, my prediction stays the same: I see Jason winning this one. ;)
