Hughes had to have surgery on his left knee and didn’t want to get trampled by all the big muscular fans (he is 5′ 8″ or so). He was wise to avoid a stampede and protect himself for his fight with Serra next year.

I think Hughes got his feelings hurt when GSP said that Fitch was his toughest test to date. Hughes was hoping that GSP would always idolize him and keep him in his thoughts as his toughest test. Times change.

When Silva fought Yushin Okami back in 06 he actually fought at 170. He really looked like a spider. He could easily be the WW, MW, and LHW champion right now. He’s the true P4P champ.

Thanks man. what can you say about a guy that picks a lesser wrestler as his training partner? Hughes didn’t maximize his natural talent and strength because of his ego. Sad, but true. He’s from Illinois, why not box in Chicago for like 6 months? It’s his own damn fault! I say that as a (mostly) fan.

There is no defending him enforcing his religion on others, but that’s another topic.

Agree with everyone but the dude who started this thing. I, like many people don’t know much of Fitch because he is so quiet and not in the press a lot. But that guy showed more heart in that fight alone than you have in your whole life. He could have crumpled and allowed the ref to break it up, but he kept on standing even if a couple times the fence was holding him up. But he didn’t quit until the final buzzer and he would have fought 2 more rounds if he had to. Point is he knew he was down in the scorecards and still put on a great show in every round. Guy’s got heart, no question.

Let’s not forget the opponents each has faced while defending said title. Although Hughes did defend against GSP and I will always respect him for that. Even if he is acting like a fucktard. GSP just beat Fitch to defend the title and he would beat anyone Hughes has ever had to defend against and would also beat HUGHES in his prime. So more successful champion-HUGHES
