lambert day ufc 88
Jason Lambert (23-8) and Jason Day (17-7) will meet inside the Octagon at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., on September 6.

MMAmania.com was able to independently confirm the booking, which was originally posted over at FiveOuncesOfPain.com.

“The Punisher” appears to be making the drop to middleweight after competing most of his career in the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions. Perhaps back-to-back losses to 205-pounders Wilson Gouveia and Luis Arthur Cane, respectively, convinced Lambert to try his luck in the 185-pound division.

Lambert has three losses in his last five attempts within the eight-sided cage.

Day was victorious in his debut for the promotion against Alan Belcher at UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2″ in April, upending Alan Belcher via first round technical knockout. The Canadian product was then stopped himself in the same fashion less than two months later when he locked horns with Michael Bisping at UFC 85: “Bedlam.”

Lambert was always kind of fat at 205. I always thought he should cut to middle. He’s going to knock some dudes out at that weight…maybe not Jason Day, but still he should be fun to watch at 185.

Leites vs Reijic has been reported for ufc 90.

Damn iT! Leites is my Dude, but Reijic scares the crap out of me (I am a fan of his as well) Its really a shame that one of these 2 will have to loose.

I expect Reijic to be a MONSTER at 185 lbs. He is really tall and lanky!

I would like to see:
Kendall Grove vs Goran Reijic two of the tallest middleweights in the UFC go at it! Kendall would get knocked out for sure, but It would feature some exciting striking.

Speaking of Kendall Grove, I havent heard any news about him. He last fought in June, we are due to hear about a match up involving him!

He could probably just get a doctor to cut 20 lbs of skin off his body for him to make middleweight. Jason “The Scar” Lambert.

hey Mania this is off subject but I have a suggestion regarding the shirts you guys sell. I bought a white one and on the logo on the back you should write the MMA and Mania in different colors like the website logo. I was wearing it and people were asking me “Whats Maaaaa mania.com? Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work!

i didn’t see this fight coming
i thought lambert was gonna fight sakara
i think lambert 3rd lose might be his last in the ufc

2008-08-07 13:51:45

i find it funny that lambert is cutting to mw, but yet I got trashed for saying a 6 foot fedor should cut to 205 and give us some great matches. Yes John, I realize he doesn’t have too, but there are a ton more fights for him at 205, and he’s not exactly an adonis at 230

Comment by john
2008-08-07 14:54:04

not really Kev! If he were signed with the uFC I would agree that cutting to 205 would provide more dream match ups, but there arent any LHW worth him cutting down to to fight at Affliction. Either way, he would KILL anyone at 205!

Comment by ViolentMike
2008-08-07 15:41:19

Or better yet, all the 205ers can simply not cut wieght and they can come in at what they naturally weigh after a full training camp without cutting the water wieght. The majority of them would come in around 225.

225 vs 230 sounds pretty darn fair to me?

That was the phatest figher I’ve ever seen. And also that was the most pointless comparison to David vs Goliath I’ve ever read, a bunch of C-class lards fighting spectacularly healthy skilled fighters who have 10 times more endurance and speed. I was thinking I was going to be reading something like a Serra beating GSP kind of thing. I have the DVD of the first UFC fight and that guy who got his teeth kicked out was weak stuff but it was exciting to see him get owned. Interesting post non the less
