buentello nelson affliction mma
International Fight League heavyweight champion Roy Nelson becomes the latest IFL orphan to be adopted by the Affliction brand.

Nelson (13-2) will try to prove his worth by facing former UFC heavyweight contender Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello at Affliction’s sophomore effort ‘Day of Reckoning’ on October 11.

Buentello (26-10) is coming off a dominant performance over late-replacement Gary Goodrich at Affliction ‘Banned’ on July 19. Mr. “Fear & Consequences” is 5-1 in his last six fights, with 4 (T)KO’s. He’s a talented striker with ten years of experience.

He’ll have his hands full against the heavy-handed Nelson, who was last seen dropping off UFC and TUF veteran Brad Imes on the corner of Lights and Out. His two losses were by decision and despite his radius knows a thing or two about submissions, having ended three straight via choke.

Affliction “Day of Reckoning” takes place on October 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and features the main event of Josh “The Babyface Assassin” Barnett (23-5) vs. Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski (13-5).

Also confirmed is the rumored middleweight showdown between Matt “The Law’ Lindland (21-5) and Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort (17-8) – pending Belfort’s medical clearance for his post-fight medical suspension from Affliction: ‘Banned’.

More fights are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned.

I hear that Vitor wont be cleared, but its still just speculation.

as for Big Country vs. Buentello, this is a very solid Heavyweight match up. I look forward to seeing what Nelson can do against a fighter of Buentello’s magnitude. I like B ig Country in this one!

I cant stand the HeadHunter! I still recognize this as a quality match up!

The UFC bought the IFL:, but most of their biggest stars are signing with Affliction. Didnt they learn their lesson with the aquisition of Pride?

Affliction 2 will feature top IFL fighters:
Jay Heiron (welterweight champion)
The Polish Hammer
Big Country Nelson

Affliction 1 had:
Savant YOung
Ben Rothwell

what the hell did the UFC get out of the deal?

The miller kid? Rob Kimmons? WTF did they even bother buying this company?

I was wondering that too…about the UFC buying IFL, yet all the talent from there going to Affliction. Weird.

shultz looked like the ony ufc worthy fighter. hordecki, heiron, vladimer and young and look more like wec fighters. nelson is an elitexc fighter all the way, he could never get passed rothwell and rothwell was exposed at affliction. i think the ufc had the old okey-doke pulled on them just like in the pride deal, just at a lesser cost. i think the ufc thought that they were going to get most of these fighters with the buyout but didnt. can you spell l-a-w-s-u-i-t. any way this buntello vs nelson fight could be a fun fight to watch, just fine for an undercard fight.

i don’t think rothwell won the fight against big country and rothwell showed he could fight with one of the best in the business at afflicition.aa was on that night and only 2-3 h.w.’s in the world would have beat him that night and rothwell had his momments and showed he can take a punch and keep fighting.

Fedor hasn’t been cleared, so he’s not fighting AA, Barnett, or anybody for a little while. That’s the risk Affliction took by betting all their chips on a small pool of fighters.

Nelson looks like he’s on the Tank Abbott training regimen.
