What the hell, is up with that
What do you mean Ro-j. I agree with most of it. Fedor is defintly #1,
Yeah GSP should definitely be ahead of BJ Penn, he beat the guy didnt he?
Hence the term “lb for lb” get it?
Just like what I mentioned in my other comment. They don’t use the term pound-for-pound for nothin’ so right on Thorazine!
Randy is one of my favorites, but I tend to think that Chuck should have his spot. I also think GSP should be ahead of B.J.. Not only did he beat B.J., but he has a better overall record, with only 2 loses that were both avenged. I can’t say B.J. should be ahead because he fights at a lower wieght class, because he has fought at all weight classes except heavyweight, and I think he is more naturally a ww.
Forrest as a top 10 lb for lb fighter is PATHETIC!!!! He has 2 good wins on his resume. Just 2, and they are both questionable if you ask me. Even if they were both wins, 2 good wins, should get you in the top 10 of your weight class let alone the top 10 lb for lb list!
Forrest is a great fighter, and is exctremely hard working, but he has to be the most over rated fighter in the sport right now. Maybe he has gotten better. He may be a top fighter right now, but he still has to go out and prove it 1st, which is something that IMO, he has yet to do!
Fedor will always be the best fighter in the world. if him and Silva keep winning, which is what I expect. Fedor would still be ranked higher because he has been doing it through his entire career!
Agreed, lb for lb should focus on history of dominance and I don’t see anyone toping Fedor anytime soon. Silva is a great number two. I don’t get all the GSP over BJ. BJ’s done better for a longer period of time at 155 then GSP’s done at 170.
I also think the list gets too sketchy after the top 5… Sorry Forrest, let me see one title defense and I’ll sing another tune.
Forrest over Nogueira? this list is just trash!
Nog is a legend, Forrest has 2 decent wins. He beat a gimpy Shogun and won a very questionable and debated decision against Rampage!
This is so disrespectful to Nogueira, its not even funny!
I agree. The first ever Pride HW Champ..and now the current UFC HW Champ.. is behind the first “ultimate fighter” and the wwinnervia the split decision IMO LHW Champ Forrest.
Alright. First off, I got to work late, and just looked at the titles of the new threads.
Forrest Griffin as the #6 overall MMA fighter. WTMFF??????? The second I saw that, I completely disregarded the entire list.
Call me crazy, but afer about 2 more impressive performances, Miguel Torres is going to take an elevator ride towards the upper echelon of that list.
Forrest Freaking Griffin at #6. What is this world coming to….. Sure Forrest is champ, but in a lb for lb ranking, I got Machida ranked waaaaaay higher than Forrest and he ain’t even on this list. Forrest is 240+ lbs and cuts down to LHW. If he wants to prove that he is one of the best lb for lb fighters, he should fight a fight or two at HW. He actually has said in the past that he plans to have the latter fights of his career take place at HW so he can be a lazy slob and not have to cut weight either. However, Forrest having any concerns with lb for lb rankings is just obsurd. Forrest right now needs to be focused on one thing, and one thing only – defending the LHW belt.
Amen!
the Gospel of thE VIOLENT ONE!!!!
Here’s my list:
1. Kimbo Slice
2. Ken Shamrock
3. Hong Man Choi
4. Gina Carano
5. Roger Huerta
6. Butterbean
7. Tank Abbot
8. Mask
9. Justin Eilers
10. Phil Baroni
I’m sure that you are going to say that kimbo is #1!!! He is nothing but a trash street fighter!! He has no real talent and honestly nobody in their right mind would say that he actually won his last fight it paid off!!!
Get rid of those two WEC guys and its pretty straight.
faber can drop down a few but def belongs on the list and torres should be much higher, that kid is no joke, 135lb version of anderson silva. forrest, gimme a break, 10 is the highest he should even be considered for
I agree for the most part, the top 5 is on par. but after that i would have to disagree. Forrest is a great fighter don’t get me wrong, but 6???? Sure hes the champ, but he hasnt beaten that many great fighters to be ranked 6th. Couture, all respect, but hasn’t fought in a year. Torres forsure needs to be up there and “No Respect Nogueira as well.Rampage too should be up there for his resume, but sadly who knows when he will be back. Who should be in is Aoki, Hendo and i would even say, Liddell. Not a huge of his but The man has a great resume to back it, and beating Evans puts him right back in the mix. Just my take on things.
Forrest dispatched 2 top lb for lb fighters in their respective time, while winning a Championship title. No way does the guy look like the best lb for lb fighter or even Champion 205 lb fighter, … but he gets the job done. I know Forrest doesn’t fit the bill… It’s best lb for lb fighters right now, not of all time. MMA rankings are a rollercoaster.
Forrest has only 2 quality wins in his entire career. No way he should be on this list, especially since both wins were “questionable”. I like Forrest, but everyone over rating him so much makes me really not like the guy!
Griffin and Chuck are poster boys for the UFC.
However, there is nothing questionable about Griffin choking out an injured Shogun or outstriking an uninspired Rampage.
Not his fault.
He is the epitome of the hardworking blue collar underdog who inspires you to root for him.
Unless you are pissed that he beat your fav fighter.
Which, clearly, is the case for you, john.
no the case for me is that 2 good wins, whouldnt put you on the top lb for lb list. Can u list more trhan 2 good UFC wins for Forrest? i cant!
Most of the other guys on that list have beaten the who’s who of mma. Forrest is not yet in that class. I dont care WTF u say, its ridiculous!
My list:
1)Fedor
1A)A. Silva
2)Nog
3)GSP
4)BJ
5)Faber
OJR: explain to me how beating 2 good fighters in his entire career gets him on the list of top 10 fighters in mma today? This I have to hear….Come on, Explain it to me
If you even try to argue this point, you will loose all credibility. What do u have to say?
I would put Griffin at #10. BECAUSE he beat 2 big names and has the belt. That’s it. If you notice, my 5 all have belts besides their resumes. Griffin is beginning to put his resume together but because he has the BELT and he beat a TOP FIGHTER to get it, I give him his due.
so u r saying that Forrest is the 10th best fighter in mma? r u on crack?
I can list a handful of fighters that DESERVE to be on that list over Forrest, how about Takanori Gomi for starters?
Not at all. I think Wand is better. I think Hendo is better. And on and on… But considering that he has the belt and who he beat, he should be ranked at 10. Why have the belts then? That’s all.
So according to your Logic, Matt SErra should have been a top 10 lb for lb fighter for about a year when he had the title? I read your posts, u r much better than that!
I’m really only interested in #1, the rest are always going to be a bone of contention.
#1 is BJ Penn based on his pure natural skill
Nobody, but Fedor can be considered #1! BUt BJ is in my top 3 for sure!
I’m more in agreement with OJR than John. Yeah, Yeah,… I know Forrest?? It never occurred to me he would make that list, but when I think about it, I begrudgingly give Forrest a #10 spot or so.
I don’t think any 205 lbr should go on that lb for lb list before Forrest, Shogun was considered #1 contendor, Forrest whupped him. Rampage consider to be best lb for lb fighter and a 205 lb fighter, Forrest beat him, it wasn’t a lucky KO, these fights went the distance and Forrest won.
HOWEVER, most of the top 205 lbrs at their best could beat FORREST most of the time. Yeah, there’s guys at lighter weights that could maybe should be there. But if 205 lbs is considered the toughest weight class in the UFC then maybe there should be a representative from it in the lb for lb ranking, who should that be? Rampage and not Forrest?… right now I have to go with the unspectacular, likeable guy Forrest.
Exactly.
By the way – Serra beating GSP was a total fluke. EVERYBODY knows that. Griffin’s victories were not.
Many people still believe that Rampage got robbed!
Many people also believe that Forrest lost the 1st round to a legged fighter shogun.
I just think that to make such a prestigous list, the overall body of work has to count for something. Rampage has been DOMINANT beating countless former champions (bustamante, Randleman, Liddell, Henderson, his only losses are:
-THe GREAT, LEGENDARY Sakuraba in Rampage’s first pride fight
-2 wanderlei (DOMINANT at the time)
-1 shogun (top fighter)
- Forrest (I give him his props but many people still question that win and thats a fact)
Forrest on the other hand has 2 good wins in his entire CAREER!!!
-He beat the best in the world, Shogun, who did fight on 1 leg, that can not be ignored!
-He won a much debated decision over Rampage
On the other hand he has losses to not such great fighters like Jardine who knocked his block off and Tito.
Top fighters on the pound for pound list should not have these kinds of losses as recent as 2 years ago. Rampage lost to only great fighters.
Did you notice that he is THE ONLY fighter on that list with losses to inferior opponents? Who has Nog lost to? Fedor, Barnett.
Urijah, doesnt loose. Miguel, doesnt loose. Anderson, Doesnt loose. Fedor, Doesnt loose. Only other fighter with a bad loss on his recent resume is GSP, but he has beaten the who’s who of 170 lb fighters!
I am sorry, but I DO NOT THINK Forrest should be on this list! I dont think he would make the top 20! This has to be about the 10 best fighters….forrest is not one of them. He may become 1 in the Future, but right now, it is a joke to have him on there. I know he is the goldenboy, but who’s next? Kimbo? lol
Please lay down the shlay ,Forrest dominated shogun ,beat rampage ,give him respect .Second of all i remember GSP beating BJ ,Who is your supplier because he must have the best product in this world ,cause i hear you constantly hating on Forrest ,you have to be hallucinating if you think BJ deserves to be ahead of GSP ,and if you think Forrest don’t deserve to be on this list
It’s not the best lb for lb of all time. 205 lbrs all have some suspect losses on their records that’s why it’s considered the toughest weight class in the UFC put any 205 lbr on that list, you’d see some losses.
Forrest lost to Tito and Jardine in 2006. Forrest consecutively beat 2 guys on that list and won a title. Jardine also beat Chuck Liddell, does that make Chuck a can? Or does that mean Jardine is one tough MF? Forrest is a much better fighter than when he fought then ranked #5 205 lbr Ortiz and then Jardine over 2 yrs ago.
Regardless of the 205 lb UFC division being the toughest in world, maybe no 205 lbr should be on that top 10 lb for lb list?
The top 10 lb for lb list is a rollercoaster, things could change with 1 fight…. what if Arlovski whips Fedor… he lost to Silvia twice!…. that’s just an example of how quickly things could change.
Amen to that Thorazine. For a person whose name’s a drug, you sure do make a lot of sense. hehe!! Nice example with the Arlovski-Fedor-Sylvia analogy.
So john, you say the overall body of work has to count for something (which I agree), but then you say BJ is in the top 3. I know you don’t put him in front of Fedor (and he shouldn’t be). Are you saying he is in front of Silva, because anyone with any MMA knowledge KNOWS that the overall body of work of GSP (avenged his only 2 losses in utter domination) is WAAAAY more than BJ’s (he LOST 3 out of his last 7 fights and he is 1 for 3 at WW).BJ has to keep winning and hope one of the other 3 falters to even hope to get into the top 3. BJ has won 72% of his fights, GSP has won 89% of his. GSP BEAT BJ, it a no brainer, as of now GSP should be ranked higher and only a nuthugger would put BJ ahead of him.
GSP behind Penn? Griffin 5? Rampage only 8? I’m sorry but that’s bs
I agree. GSP beat BJ Penn and has fought a ton of tough guys. BJ Penn is tough but I still think he’d lost to GSP a second time. Griffin is tricky and rampage deserves a little higher. I’m glad to see Torres in there, though.
Rampage slid down the ladder due to his incapacitaion[if there's such a word] to fight right now due to his “flip-mode” state. In BJ’s case, I think they placed him based on the much debated “pound-for-pound” status. But IMO, GSP and BJ Penn’s places are very much interchangeable.
Good thing they haven’t forgotten Randy “Murders” Couture, LOL!
Holy fuck, c’mon now….
1. Anderson Silva
2. GSP
3. Fedor
4. Urijah
5. BJ
get ur shit together
GSP over Fedor?i can understand Silva, but please give the man his due respect. Fedor is the best p4p to wear the 4 oz glove, but that is just this lowly commenters opinion.
I think the 1st one of these guys to win 2 titles will be #1, with the exception of Fedor if he keeps beating everyone at hvy. To basically go 30-0 while dismantling most of them, is legendary, I don’t care if its not as tough as some of the other weight clases… 30-0 in MMA and left Silvia looking like a highlight from UFC 3 where Keith Hackney KO’s a 600 lb sumo wrestler. Freakin’ A Bob.
“I don’t care if its not as tough as some of the other weight clases”
compared to what, 185? 205 is more stacked than heavy but Fedor is only 230 looking pudgy and would destroy most of those guys (although they all have a punchers chance or could come up with some hole no one sees yet). By fight time Forrest weighs the same as Fedor. I wish he were in the UFC because Machida/Fedor Chuck/Fedor Anderson/Fedor would be great fights. Fedor slips punches and kicks a lot better than Randy so he’d do better with the likes of Chuck, although Randy/Fedor is decent I guess

Holy fuck, c’mon now….
1. Anderson Silva
2. GSP
3. Fedor
4. Urijah
5. BJ
get ur shit together
‘
So you’re saying Urijah would beat BJ in a fight? Haha.
These guys are just hypin’ Urijah Faber. Don’t you get it. They think they seem to know everythin’…!
So you’re saying you don’t yet get the pound for pound thing. P4P says nothing about who would win between 2 fighters. It’s simply a measure of who is the most dominant against their peers in their own weight class.
Nice to see Torres get the recognition that he deserves. GSP should not be behind Penn. Personally, I’d put Silva above Fedor.
Top 5 looks right on but after that it gets a little debatable.
BJ Penn is right where he should be, he has accomplished more then GSP as of right now, so no complaints there. He has been champ in two weight classes, and has fought in far greater weight classes then he himself is, and held his own.
BJ more accomplished?!?!?!! HOW?!?!?! EXPLAIN TO ME WHO HAS BEATEN MORE TOP 10′S IN THEIR WEIGHT CLASS?!?! GSP over BJ ANY DAY!!!
BJ accomplished MORE LOSSES (including 1 to GSP). He accomplished getting TKOed by Hughes while GSP was OWNING Hughes. He accomplished getting a freebie title shot at WW because he COULDN’T win one at LW. He later proved that unearned title shots prove nothing, when he LOST his next 2 fights at WW. BJ won 72% of his fights vs GSP’s 89%. GSP has beaten everyone he has faced. What more can he accomplish? So what if BJ went up in weight and won a decision against Renzo, who won 1 out of his last 7 fights,LOL. Rodrigo only had 5 fights and BJ lost his other fight. All in all GSP faced a little better competition and he came out with a better record. Maybe BJ will pull ahead in the future, but as of now, GSP has been more consistant and should be ranked above BJ.
1 – Anderson Silva
2 – BJ Penn
3 – Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira
4 – Randy Couture
5 – Fedor
6 – Georges St. Pierre
7 – Rampage
8 – Torres
9 – Forrest
10 – Urijah Faber
bradpittfightclub. Wow! nogueria at 3 and fedor at 5. Fedor beat him twice (two and a half if you count the NC).
I just figured it out bradpittfightclub your dana white. Well, at least your finally admitting that fedor is in the top 5 now.
P.S. start paying your fighters what their worth!
lol couture over fedor. couture has won 2 in a row and dropped 2 of 3 before that. fedor has won over 20 in a row.
28 in a row if you don’t count the cut caused by an illegal elbow.
there is no way Forrest deserves to be above Urijah, and I do not even think he deserves to be in the top 10…….. he won the title and I’ll give him that but I don’t think he did it in an impressive fashion. plus if you look at the big picture, Jardine deserved a title shot before he did but the only reason he got it was because he is much more marketable. Forrest even admitted he doesn’t have knock out power but he’ll keep coming after you……. so he has good strategy, but I still don’t think he should be in the top 10 in the world
What’s this Fred, an MTV music countdown?
MTV music countdown thenegation? What does that mean?
LMAO, Fedor and GSP 5th and 6th. Someone knows NOTHING about rankings. It’s not the order of your favorite fighters, lol. These 2 guys only have 1 and 2 losses and they avenged them in dominant fashion. Their records are as PERFECT as they get. I can’t think of anyone else that has fought top competition and has as pristine records as GSP and Fedor. Not even Silva. If these rankings are based on how dominant a fighter has been his whole carreer, then Fedor and GSP are definitely 1 and 2 HANDS down.
Tricky thing there, I’m pretty sure they’re looking at everything and who’s on a roll right now. What’s holding GSP back is probably successful title defenses and BJ Penn left GSP’s face looking like he’d been pounded on with a meat hammer.
Well then, take Nog off the list,he always looks beat up, but he WINS. Winning is what counts, not how pretty their faces look at the end of the fight. This is fighting, not a beauty contest.
I suprise u dunt have kimbo in there
lol
??????????????
Chuck will be back in there soon. John Fitch a possibility soon.
Jon fitch? Im sorry hes good but not gonna break into the top fighters in the world.. Hes might make the fight with GSP tough but hes not gonna even get close to beating him.
Oh bradpitfightclub your going to get it. fedor at 5? i feel bad for the hell your going to get for that.
First off anderson silva is the best fighter in the world. screw fedor, yes his win over tim sylvia was nice but hes gotta continue to fight top level competition. dont go back to fighting cans.
Who the fuck made this list? Obviously they know fuckall about mma and should fuck right back off to the hole they came from. Dropkick cunts.
NBC Sports.
I actually agree with a lot of these but think Urijah Faber should be higher and Miguel Torres.
As others have mentioned Forrest definately doesn’t deserve to be there just because he beat a mentally unstable Rampage and Shogun with a bad knee! He hasn’t had any impressive KO’s or finishes. Dont get me wrong I like him but his record is not worthy of a Top 10 fighter.
As for Fedor this guy truly deserves to be the best in the world. I just dont get why people can’t see it. Everyone I know has been saying it for years and the only people who dont are usually people that weren’t watching Pride back in the day and have only seen his fights on Youtube.
Glad to see he is finally getting recognition but as I said this will be demanded following future fights.
ALL HAIL KING FEDOR!!
I bow down to the King of MMA, Fedor!!!!!
From now on, I do not even want to talk to anyone that doesnt have Fedor as #1 on their list, or at the very least tied with Silva as #1, although Fedor is the clear cut #1 in my eyes, because he has been consistently dominant for longer than Silva has!
If you dont think Fedor is the best or 1 of the 2 best fighters in the world, please dont address me ever again!
I vacillate back and forth between Fedor and Silva. I love to watch both of them. I actually think the comparisons between the two of them are quite similar. Both know how to finish fights. Both make their competition look silly. I would say both guys respect their competitors and show lots of class in victory. Both guys represent the sport of MMA in a very good way. The only knock on Fedor has been his lack of legit competition, but I don’t blame him completely for that because the UFC’s acquisition of Pride was a mess.
I think both guys are deserving of being called the best p4p fighter. You can make a case for both of them.
I agree, anderson silva and fedor share the number one spot!
1. anderson silva
2. bj penn
3. fedor
4. gsp
5. nog
I would only switch Anderson and Fedor from 1 & 2. Besides that pretty solid list.
The only reason Anderson should be number one is that he has been more active and hasnt fought gimick shows on new years eve like Fedor has. Anderson fights more often and until Fedor fights more opponents he doesnt deserve number one. Now, after watching Fedor dismantle Sylvia I do believe he can be the best in the world, im just waiting for him to fight a couple more top fighters to prove it.
LOL at forrest and Couture as Top 10 p4p. Nog needs to be at 5 maybe even 4.
Anderson
Fedor
GSP
Nog-(based on MMA resume instead of hypothetical skill level)
BJ
His resume is out-of-date & past three performances haven’t been top-notch at all. This is CURRENT best p4p list and he’s there b/c of a hypothetical resume & star power, not b/c of his performances..wow, identical to all Sherdog lists!! People don’t realize that many fighters outside of the UFC/WEC are more worthy than them, including: Alistair Overeem, Shinya Aoki, Sergei Kharitonov, Joachim Hansen, and Jake Shields (to name just a few..)
i would agree with Overeem and maybe Sheilds
When you say hypothetical skill level, are you refering to BJ,lol.
there’s no way you can say bj penn is ahead of st. pierre. not objectively anyhow. same goes for fedor being #1.
Forrest on that list is laughable… He didnt even beat Rampage. I think Lyota Machida, Thiago Silva, Wanderlei Silva would all beat him. And he’s already lost to Tito Ortiz and Keith Jardine!
1. Anderson Silva
2. GSP
3. BJ Penn
4. Fedor
5. Faber
Fully agree. Anderson #1 and GSP a little higher. Although Faber should be top4 at least. GSP still has to yet defend his title, then dominate his div. Until then, there should be no talk about GSP vs Penn or Anderson Silva. Both the LW and WW div’s are stacked and both champs have a handful of deserving, hungry contenders…..Ken Flo, Huerta, Guida, Thiago Silva, Diego, Kos, Fitch, etc…..
well seeing as how in the past couple of years Anderson has been amazing, gsp has looked sharp, and Fedor has had one reall fight in a couple years. ( linland is a mw, so it doesnt count) I give the nod to Anderson. Fedor is the best HW on the planet, but his inactivity for the past few years slides him down out of the #1 slot
Whoever doesn’t have Fedor as #1 is an absolute clown. Miguel Torres?? No. I know his stats and he’s impressive but a win streak w/ very VERY few notable opponents. Penn/GSP rankings are debatable. The rest is good, I’m glad to see Forrest above Nog and Couture.
ok, that is the biggest lol ever! Forrest Griffin no.6?? wow this guy is getting a little ahead of himself.. Im basing this on who is the best, not some bs wins that Forrest got or something like that, sometimes the better fighter lose…
1.Anderson Silva
2. Fedor
3. BJ Penn
4. GSP
5. Arlovski
6. Rampage
7. Big Nog
8. Thiago Silva
9. Diego Sanchez
10. ??
Thiago Silva? He hasnt even fought a top ten yet.
Forrest does not belong on that list. at least not that high. 9 or ten could be argued but are a stretch.
No way Urijah Faber could be ahead of Big Nog, no f*** way. Who has he fought? His 1-1 against top competition. I’d say bull****. I’m a big fan of Kid Yamamoto but he hasn’t fought in a while so it’s hard to rank him. I simply can’t accept Faber’s position. It simply doesn’t make any sense for me.
A lot of Penn nuthuggers. I can understand different arguments for Fedor, Silva and GSP for the top 3, but BJ should NEVER be ranked ahead of these guys, EVER, there is NO argument.
Penn lost 3 out of 4 fights, enough said.
I agree with u with the exception of NEVER and EVER… I would change that to ‘not currently’…
Gord-
Just like its obvious that you are a GSP nuthugger…
Maybe people see BJ losing to top tier athletes while trying to fit into weight classes that are not natural for him and give him credit for that.
Or the fact that BJ has not lost to lesser talented opponents like Matt Serra.
Or the fact that GSP has become tentative with his offense since his loss to Serra.
GSP looks scared of losing instead of the monster he used to be.
Or that BJ inspires people to root for him because he openly looks for the biggest challenge even if he gets his butt kicked now and then.
Then again, GSP did beat BJ so BJ SHOULD be ranked after GSP.
However, now you know the reasons for BJ’s popularity.
When refering to their records as they stand today , BJ should never be ranked higher than GSP. Of course the future could change things, but that would be a totally different ranking. I see what you are saying OJR, about giving credit for fighting at higher weight classes, but you can only give so much credit for beating Renzo, when he was on a MAJOR losing streak (1 win in 7 fights, come on). GSP tentative? He was all over Hughes and Serra like white on rice. GSP has been using more wrestling than striking and confused Kos, Hughes and Serra “I didn’t think he was going to take me down”. Soon you will see him come out swinging and when his opponent gets KOed, he will say ,”Gee, I thought he was scared to strike”. Even if GSP if afraid to stand (which I highly doubt), he is much more dominant on the ground anyway. Why not use your best tools the most often.
1. Anderson Silva
2. Fedor
3. GSP
4. BJ Penn
5. Urijah Faber
6. Couture
7. Miguel Torres
8. Jon Fitch
9. Lyoto Machida
10. Forest
11. Kimbo =P
ha kidding nowhere near…but i am a kimbo fan
how is bj above gsp?? what a joke!! first of all what has bj done so spectacular. yah he is the lightweight champ. lets not forget he was chased out of welterweight after going 0-2 in his last two fights. so he goes down to the weaker lightweight division and dominates. BIG FRIGGIN DEAL!! im tired of hearing about how great he is when he only beat muscle shark who was coming off a long suspension and didnt quite look like the usual sherk. none the less he won and he deserves credit for that, but aside from that hes done nothing impressive. oh wait, he beat the crap out of joe daddy….. WOW!!! thats a real accomplishment. now hes running his mouth sayin he wants gsp!!! y?? because now you take fighting seriously and therefore youll beat the crap out of him all of a sudden?? newsflash penn, gsp is 10x the fighter he was last time you fought and he has beaten much more impressive competition lately than you have. why dont you stay in lightweight and take on guys like koscheck who deep down knows he cant beat gsp so he wants to come to lw and try and steal your title.
i got a little off topic there, the point is gsp is far more proven than bj at this point in their respective careers, not to mention he beat him. sure it was a decision, but it was a win. i shouldnt be too shocked though, its NBC afterall.
heres my top 10
1. fedor
2.anderson
3.gsp
4.bj
5.faber
6.nog
7.rampage
8.couture
9.chuck
10.wanderlei
I agree with u, GSP should be above BJ. However, BJ beat the snot out of a physically dominant 155 lbr in Sherk, he’d do it again. 1 n’ 1 with Hughes (fractured a rib, even though BJ doesn’t bring it up, because breaking bones is fair game!), KO’d Gomi, turned GSP’s face into a nice shade of purple and took on 205 lbr Lyoto Machida. Lots of talk about BJ’s flexibility, but his ability to take a punch is among the best ever; making his standup among the best. I can’t see Wanderlei or Chuck up there at the moment but that could all change. It’s a rocky MMA ranking, in a few mths lyoto, Arlovski could be up there, or Fitch could be there if he beats GSP… Crazy shit those rankings.
1 – Fedor
2 – Anderson
3 – BJ
4 – GSP
5 – Torres
6 – Urijah
7 – Nog
8 – Machida
I really don’t know if there are truly 10 fighters that can be considered pound for pound the best. Only 8 in my mind.
IMO Fedor is just consistent and a relatively small HW, the fact that he can win against much heavier tough fighters time after time speaks for itself.
BJ’s seems to be strong in his commitment to being the best p4p. If BJ and GSP were to go at it tomorrow, BJ would whoop that ass.
Torres is much like a bantam weight version of Fedor.
And all you Machida haters: mark my words, he’s soon to be the next UFC LHW champ. Just google some of his pre UFC fights…
Switch BJ and GSP, switch Forrest and Rampage- then the list is fine
Forrest on there is the worst ranking they did.
miguel should NOT be up there he hasn’t fought anybody good at all..
i think anderson silva has more skill in his left nut then anybody on that list, and machida should be way ahead of forrest on everybodys boards whether he is boring or not,and urijah should be lower then 5th im a big fan but he only fought 1 guy i consider credible
this is a never ending argument…fedor could whoop anderson there for he is #1
That’s not how P4P rankings work dude. Fedor would beat BJ too so BJ could never be P4P king? This guy knows nothing.
this list is somewhat correct.Forrest does not belong on that list.
GSP is a freak. The wrestling ability he suddenly acquired is unparalleled. If he wants to GNP, I don’t think there’s anyone that can stop that from happening at lightweight, welterweight, or middleweight. The only questionable thing is his chin. The only chance anyone has of beating him is to hope he chooses to stand and wish upon a star that they land a KO shot before he embarrasses them. BJ isn’t going to knock him out so he’s never going to avenge his loss. The best BJJ in the world isn’t going to compensate for GSP’s wrestling. And I love BJ and I was doing BJJ when BJJ wasn’t cool so I’m not being biased. Oh, at it kills me to nuthug on a French Canadian, but he’s talented beyond the credit he gets because his losse to Serra. I would dare say that GSP could hold down Sylva and pound him out. He’s not unbeatable because of his questionable chin, but he is capable of beating anyone below LHW.
What is the reasoning for people to place BJ above GSP?
GSP beat BJ and he will beat him again when they fight. BJ is good but I think he will have issues when and if he fights GSP again. I just see GSP as a much stronger and athletic fighter. BJ has some sick BJJ but it will not be enough.
BJ Penn has more fighting talent. If you were to look back at their first fight, it took GSP a take down of a gassed BJ Penn, who at that point relied mostly on talent than physical conditioning (not anymore). Thus far, it was BJ’s decision victory. Plus, GSP’s face was a bloody mess, and BJ’s was fine. IN the end it was barely a split decision for GSP. Both guys are superior in talent. It’s just a matter of the mental game at that level. Right now, I think BJ is mentally tougher than GSP.
If GSP wants to hold BJ down and pound him, BJ can’t stop it even if he is a contortinist. GSP is at olympic level wrestlig at this point. Even if BJ’s Jits is the best in the world, the decidig factor becomes one of power and size. That goes to GSP. Only GSP choosing to stand gives BJ a chance and since BJ doesn’t pose a real knockout threat, I don’t think it’s a very good chance.
Torres needs more respect. I put him and Urijah in the top 5. GSP, Fedor, and Silva can join them.
Oh, and I think sylva should be number one although I believe GSP has a good chance of beating him. This pound for pound business is strange since you can have a guy ranked above a guy he lost to. And the associative property doesn’t work. For example, Wandy beats Page, Page beats Chuck, so Wandy beat Chuck right? No. OR Chuck beat Shogun, Shogun beat Page, so Chuck beats Page right? No Or Chuck beats Randy twice and he doesn’t make the list, but Randy does. There’s no crazy math for MMA.
theres no way on Gods earth that Liddell shouldnt be on there!! Hes lost 2 fights in what 3/4 years, beat randy twice in that time and also defeated the whos who of the 205 division bar rampage!! What a joke!
Yeah, but he’s also dropped two of his last four, and if we’re going strictly with current records, 50% is not a passing grad. Not to mention with his ham string injury on the horizon, who knows if he’s going to be back to the way he was.
Fedor and Silva are both awesome, but Fedor is the best P4P hands down. Those putting Silva ahead are drinking the DW koolaid.
Fedor demolished Sylvia in 36 seconds; a top HW opponent, 36 lbs heavier and 8 inches taller. UFC counter programs with a laughable matchup of Silvia v. Irvin. If you are going to counter-program your best P4P against Afflictions best P4P, don’t put your guy up against a smaller, (basically) no name opponent and expect us to be in awe because he won. Fedor dismantled bigger opposition in less time.
these lists devolve into “top 10 guys who I like most that are winning at the moment”

Fedor is better than anderson silva. This guy is the definition of well-rounded. He beat tim sylvia stand-up and put up a good fight against cro cop and mark hunt the best heavy weight stand ups. Takedowns theres no argument sambo champion and judo medalist and lastly ground well you saw what he did to nogueira 3 times.
Anderson Silva on the other hand is probably pound for pound best stand up but not fighter. He’s a good stand up and ground fighter. But if some one can control and ground and pound they will win like dan henderson in the first round. Dan henderson shouldn’t have attempted to stand up with him. And also anderson lost against Daiju Takase who controlled silva and then got him in the triangle. But Anderson Silva has been beaten and beatable.
Its sad to see so many UFC fans who has never watched pride

I can’t have Couture on the list without Liddell ahead of him. Liddell is too one dimensional.
I’m not the biggest Chuck fan, but I still don’t get how he is one-dimensional. He’s a great striker, obviously, but he’s also one of the best defensive grapplers in the game (or at least he was in his prime). He’s hard to take down, he’s hard to keep down, and he’s hard to sub. He’s only been subbed once (by Horn in 1999), and only a prime Randy Couture (yes, Couture was in his best form at 40 yrs. old) has grounded and pounded him out.
The only guy that can prove hes the best is GSP …He can beat BJ Penn come December, then move up to middleweight and face Anderson Silva. AND if he can do all that, well then he’s just a god!
Griffin above Minotauro?! Hahahaha
I personally think that Couture is maybe a little overrated. He beat Sylvia in a decision and Gonzaga, who hasn’t exactly impressed aside from a perfect high kick to cro. Nothing else notable. BJ deserves it because he destroyed everyone at lightweight. Sherk and Daddy. GSP should be higher than BJ though because he’s faced stiffer competition.
I can’t not “weigh” in on this one. The big ? is GSP and Penn and the fact that they are likely to fight by the end of the year is almost too good to be true. I’m picking BJ to beat GSP, but at the moment you have to give GSP the higher ranking. As for Fedor, he wins the best fighter ever award hands down, but P4P is always going to include current momentum and how impressive the last handful of wins were. Silva’s destruction of Hendo put him over the top, but Fedor is only a fight or two from claiming his spot. The winner of BJ/GSP will be right there as well.
1. Anderson Silva
2. Fedor
3. GSP
4. BJ Penn
5. Faber
6. Lyoto Machida
7. Torres
8. Nogueira
9. Randy Couture
10. Forrest Griffin
Note: Forrest is debatable, but purely on paper, his last two W’s strictly name wise (Rua, Rampage) rank right up there with anyone’s and might actually be the best.
A little side note on Couture: He has the ability to beat a guy and break him so badly that he is never quite the same again (ie: Belfort and Gonzaga). Say what you will about Gonzaga, but he’s got the tools to be a seriously top HW: a big guy with great striking and jits.
The fact that Couture is a small HW plays into his inclusion on a P4P list. And he’s won his last 2 impressively, both title fights. That’s something to keep in mind as well. Randy’s only fights title fights. When’s the last time he fought that wasn’t a title or interim title match up. That means his level of competition is first rate. But I wouldn’t be going on like this if I didn’t think that he was a little debatable because of recent inactivity. He needs to fight Fedor or Big Nog sometime in the next 6 months if he’s to be considered still in the conversation.
1. Fedor
2. And. Silva
3. Nog
4. GSP
5. BJ Penn
6. Rampage
7. Torres
8. Faber
9. Couture
10. Franklin
Forrest would be in the 12-15 range on my list. I know Franklin can’t beat Silva, but, who can?
1. Fedor
2. And. Silva
3. Nog
4. GSP
5. BJ Penn
6. Rampage
7. Couture
8. Faber
9. Torres
10. Franklin
Forrest would be 12-15 on my list, Franklin could be lower but he is the 2nd best middleweight right now, he still needs to fight Hendo though.

2. A silva
3. nog
4. GSP
5. shogun

Are you kiddin’?!Nog above Penn and GSP? Surely you don’t know the meaning of “pound-for-pound”.
*10. penn/hendo
I’m good with the list, and they came up with some solid reasons for their picks as well. The truth is, the whole damn thing is so debatable its ridiculous. The ONLY true way to see if someone is better than someone else is to have them fight. And even then it’s hard because of the sheer unpredictable nature of fighting. Are Fedor and Anderson interchangeable? Probably. Does Forrest really only have two notable wins on his resume? Yeah. But really, look at everyone else on the list and tell me if they have more than two wins over notable opponents? Except for Fedor, who has none recently, no one has more than two notable opponent wins. In fact they all have more than one loss to crappy fighters. If you are looking for the best lifeteime career, it’s Fedor, hands down. But when looking for the best in the world RIGHT NOW, it gets very very hazy. So in my opinion, the best fighter on the planet is whoever your favorite is, because that is the guy you are going to be sweating blood for during a fight anyway. Go with who you like and who you can get behind, because the rest of it is just speculation crap.

Everyone on here is stupid… it goes like this:

lets do a catch weight 205 fedor vs silva then we will know for sure
here is what the list should look like
1. A.Silva
2. Fedor
3. Bj
4. GSP
5. Couture
6. Nogeuira
7. Torres
8. Forrest
9. Rampage
10. Machida
Faber shouldnt be he only beat a washed up jens pulver and couldnt even put him away Tyson Griffin owned him and he isnt on the list.
I think BJ should be way down the list, also I dont get the whole Rampage being in the top 10, I like him but really he just lost to forrest (and even if you think he won it was less than impressive) his proformance aganist Henderson was less than impressive and really the fight with Chuck was not much of a fight, Chuck just got caught early in the fight so we really dont know how that fight would have went, Wandy has his #, they fought twice and both times Wandy clearly won, Rua has beat him, so Rampage is a good fighter and a great character but top 10 not a chance, he will never see the title again. in my opinion A.Silva is the #1 in the world…
In my opinion Rampage had no business hanging with Henderson in their fight, but he did, so I give him credit for winning a fight that’s not his typical fight. A 100% mental & physically fit Rampage (that has learned how defend a leg kick), wins any fight with any 205′r, even against W.Silva, Shogun and of course Forrest.
Forrest shouldn’t even be on the list! The guy is a B-league fighter at best is just 3-2 fights. He beat an injured Shogun and pulled out a very controversial decision over Rampage. The guy won’t defend his title because he just isn’t as good as the talent the LHW division. Mark my words.
1. Spider
2. Fedor
3. GSP
4. BJ
5. Faber
6. Forrest – current belt holder of the toughest division in all of MMA
7. Machida – future belt holder of the toughest division
8. Nog
9. Torres
10. Chuck – only man to ever KO Captain America… twice
Basically, here’s the list…
1-2[interchangeable between Spider and the Russian Experiment]
3-4[you could shuffle between GSP and The Prodigy]
…The rest is bullsh*t!!
faber is a BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
