With all due respect, who would buy this dvd?? The main event was one sided, im a serra fan but he did nothing but pull guard the whole fight. The franklin/lutter fight showed how sad it is when a fiter doesn’t have cardio. Bisbings fight was ok. the quarry/starnes fight was a train wreck except the last 15 seconds. The danzig fight was pretty good I will say and the undercard fights were actually entertaining when I watched them but all in all this ppv was a disappointment.

Serra never once pulled guard. GSP took him down with authority, passed guard, and then destroyed him.

which fight were you watching?? serra pulled guard a bunch of times. that’s all he did in the fight. if he wasnt able to pull guard gsp would have beat him within a minute, but he won the fight at the end of the 2nd round after wearing matt out. stop being a gsp nuthugger

You obviously know nothing about takedowns. Serra tried to land the big punches, closed the distance, and GSP changed levels and took Serra down easily as Serra threw punches that missed. Serra never pulled guard once. He was trying to keep it on the feet, to land another miracle shot, his only chance to win.

Serra did not once pull guard. It just so happened that when GSP took him down he landed in Serra’s guard. GSP didnt stay there long either. He was passing Serra’s guard like crazy.

GSP took him down every time. He then made it a point to make Serra’s face his personal ass kicking canvas. I’m with you on the DVD though. It would be pretty boring to watch again unless you like seeing Serra curled up in a little ball getting kneed repetitively in the ribs :).

The only people buying this DVD are the people that buy every single one, as well as the families of the fighter’s that fought during the untelevised prelims.

I don’t own a single UFC DVD. I just watch all of the events live on PPV. I got a bunch of them on VHS that I recorded when I ordered the PPV. But I’m not spending $40+ to watch the PPV and then another $20 to have it on DVD. Too bad they couldn’t have something along the lines of if you ordered the PPV, with your cable bill, you get the DVD for half price.

I wish I started buying the DVD’s a long time ago because I’d love to have every event on DVD but its waaaay too late to play catch up.

From what was looking like a weak card at first, UFC/83 delivered some great fights, and turned out to be an awesome night of MMa…

But please Dana!, next time you bring the UFC to Canada, set it up UFC/89-Style!!.please.!!

1 of the worst events of the year in my oppinion, but some of the undercard match ups where good. For example: Maia’s “Submission of the YEAR” over THe red headed step child Ed Herman. Ed “Not only am i the best fighter, but I am the best looking guy lol” Herman!

I wonder who Herman fights next, I am also curious to see who Kendal Grove gets matched up against next because he looked Great vs. Tanner! Grove vs. Quarry isnt a bad idea!

1 good thing about thies event is that I think we have seen the last out of some of these bums that were figthing in the UFC, like:
Lutter
Goulet
Kalib
Tuppaware

Very happy that they wont be taking up space on UFC cards anymore!

The infamous Kalib backpedal that has made him a pariah in the MMA nation.

Anybody know what has happened to him since?

Does he still have a fight career?

Comment by O damn he got caught

No clue I just know the UFC let him go after that fight, and Dana White told him to look into a different line of work. But I will always remember that as the most hilarious moment in MMA history to date. I’ll buy the DVD just to watch Quarry’s “Running man” move and his “Hammer fist” attack at the end of round 3.

yeah, he had a good win att his event. I just have a bad taste ever since Bang Ludwig beat him in like 3 seconds. Not a fan of the road warriors at all!

However I will admit, that he is the best fighter out of the guys I mentioned!

goulet is not a bum, but he is one of the most boring laynpray fighters there is and has a weak chin. he gets rocked in almost every fight. he will never beat a top 10 ww and is probably only in the ufc cuz he’s buddies with gsp. goulet ryhmes with lay-n-pray.

Comment by Ro-J
2008-07-29 12:32:58

it’s Goulet not Goulai, wich doesn’t ryhme with lay and pray and you’ve obviously only seen him fight in the UFC. Wich he was a part of before GSP I beleive.

ive only heard his name prounounced as goo-lay. youre right ive only seen his fights against bang ludwig, luke cummo, koscheck and hazlett and he didnt look so great in any of those fights and his name was pronuonced that way in all those fights. so if i got his name wrong , my bad, but its not my fault. he’s just not a fighter that i look forward to seeing fight.

I really liked the undercard fights, and thought the night turned out to be pretty good, for such a lack-luster card..
The undercard definitely made the night for me..

I do agree that it was great that some of the shitty-ass fighters got canned for being “cans”, but I thought Goulet’s fight was one of the better fights that night..Have you seen it??..I dont think he is a bum, but do agree he is not “UFC LEVEL’” ready, and needed to go elsewhere for now..
But yeah, Lutter,Kalib and TupperWare were definitely guy’s that needed to be caned…These guy’s need to find a new profession because they are not fighters..

Herman is scheduled to fight Belcher…the two losers from this card. It should be a decent match up.

Maia’s top mounted triangle was sweet but Aoki gets submission on the year for the Aoki-plata.

I was at this card live and I’ll buy the DVD since I haven’t seen any of the fights since I was there to see them all anyways. There were some really good undercard fights and the crowd was insane. I agree that the next Canadian show should have a more well rounded card with better matchups.

John, I know you’re a big Hazelett fan and I have to say…I’m on board the bandwagon for sure. I think a great fight for him would be the winner of Cummo/Barn Cat. I think Hazelett and Barn Cat are two future superstars in this division. Them fighting each other would be a great one to watch. They both have the same size, age, and a relatively similar skill set but Hazelett might be a bit further along. I relaly hope we get to see Cummo/McCrory…I like both of these guys and I’m not sure who to cheer for.

Ever since I first saw Tamdan fight, I thought that he and McLovin would make for an excellent fight between two YOUNG rising stars in the making.

PS. I, as in ViolentMike, turned John onto Dustin!!!!!! LOLOL Although, I must admit, that there is one person on this site that is a bigger McLovin fan than myself. And that award goes to……… Mr.NC-17

John what do you think of Nate Marquardt vs Kendall Grove?

Or Kendall vs Bisping..that would make for an intresting story line..both being on season 3 of TUF..the 205winner vs the 185 winner.. both at 185

Comment by NorthStar

I would love to see this fight. The only reason I want to see it is so I can see Nate tear Kendall a new one. I think this one would be a little one sided. You never know though.

Kendall vs Bisping would be a good fight as well. I think Bisping takes it though.

JOHN. what about that rematch with grove/herman. thei tuf finale fight was one hell of a back and forth war and was 2nd only to griffen/bonnar for a tuf finale fight. i think there still at the same level and have wanted to see that rematch since their 1rst fight. i think a 2nd fight between the 2 could be just as exciting.

What the heck happened? Did Abby die? This site all of a sudden turned into an “Ask John” newspaper column.

I think that that figth would be fine if Herman can get a win. However, this fight would have to be on an UFN, not a PPV.

some great ides on here today.

I would like to see Marquardt Hammer Grove, but like north star said, its a little one sided,

bisping vs. Grove would be great but I think Grove needs a win. It would be awesome to hadline a UFN, just as Grove/Herman 2 would

if anyone wonders why im so high on a grove/herman(niether are contenders right now) rematch, they need to watch their 1rst fight. you should be able to find it on myvideofight.com and or mmascraps.com. its worth the time to take and watch it. plus i think there still about at the same level right now. grove has a weak chin and herman is succeptable to submissions. i dont think grove’s win over grandpa tanner makes him a contender again.

I’m going to be skipping out of work in a little bit to pick it up. I haven’t seen much of this since I was there. The card and the night turned out to be alright. I hope that Quarry’s Rocky IV speech is on the DVD. Maia’s submission was also incredible. I want to see if the F*** you Serra chant can be heard on the DVD too because it was loud as he** at the Bell Centre.
