Marlon Mathias
A swing bout between between Muay Thai black belt Marlon Mathias (3-0) and David Douglas (3-1) has been added to this Saturday’s (July 26) Elite XC: “Unfinished Business” event on CBS.

This lightweight match up was originally scheduled to be Douglas against Malaipet, but Malaipet suffered and injury at the last minute. Elite XC scrambled to find a solid replacement and definitely found one in Mathias.

He’s a Chute Boxe trainee with an undefeated (9-0) professional Muay Thai record. As mentioned above, he’s a black belt in the art of Muay Thai. He’s a confident fighter — as are most who come from Chute Boxe — and he feels grateful for the opportunity to fight in Elite XC.

Here’s a snip from an interview he did with MMAWeekly.com:

“To me EliteXC is one of the best events in the U.S, even here in Brazil we can see that EliteXC is growing a lot and we also see that EliteXC has the concern about his athletes. And now with the CBS deal EliteXC will be the number one event soon. They believed in my work and now its time for me to pay back and make a huge presentation.”

Douglas’ only loss is to top 10 featherweight, Jeff Curran, by a first round submission three years ago. He’s only competed once since then — in May of last year (a win over Yusuke Ikenishi).

His inactivity could prove to be a problem against a striker like Mathias who trains with one of the most feared camps in the sport. But then again, he has been preparing for Malaipet, who also is a world class Muay Thai specialist.

Perhaps he’ll have a solid gameplan for Mathias.

We’ll see on Saturday night because Elite XC plans to either air this bout as the first fight on CBS if there’s enough time in between the transition from Showtime or after the main event if time permits.

Regardless, its should be a solid addition to the telecast. One more fight certainly doesn’t hurt anything.

No, there is NO SUCH THING as a Muay Thai black belt. Muay Thai does not use a belt system. The article really should be fixed.

Any fight card is a lot better when it is free. So I’ll probably watch no matter who is fighting.

Mexecutioner: I dont believe you when u say that u wont watch EliteXC….If it were on pay per view, I would believe you, but I have a hard time believing that u r going to pass up a free event that will feature some pretty good fights.

Believe it. I have no plans on watching it. I like Diaz and Lawler, but the promotion is shit. They protect Noons and Kimbo. If Kimbo was the man like they put him out there to be, why wouldnt they have him fight Silva for the title? We all know the answer-he would lose to Silva. He’s supposedly is going to fight Grim, but I’ll believe it when I see it. They really had to find a guy outside the promotion to fight Silva for the title? If they believed their own hype, Kimbo would be fighting Silva. They just dont want the guy to lose, plain and simple. And with Noons they are doing the same thing. Like I think you said in another post, you said he won via cuts which I agree with. It was BS, and now it seems like they are letting Noons pick his fights, or that he is just ducking Diaz. That rematch should have happened immediately, but didnt. Elite XC protects who it wants to protect. Its a crap promotion. Hopefully Diaz, Lawler, and the other reputable fighters there can be signed by the UFC (again), Affliction or Dream exclusively. I bet Elite XC is gone by mid 2009.

I would have to suspend the boycott if it was Lawler/Diaz. Thats one of my favorite fights from when they were both in the UFC.

LOL! Riiiiiight….

Funniest thing I’ve heard all week. This guy is either brown-nosing, delusional, or both.

Hmm, I think it’s about time the WEC featherweight division was dissolved into the UFC events, Fabor would be a big draw on the PPV’s. Not that I mind watching his fights for free or anything..

They have to keep something for the WEC to drawn on…

I knew a guy who was a silver belt in Muay Thai. He would kick the corners of brick buildings as hard as he could to toughen up his shins. He’d work a corner of a building until eventually someone would politely ask him to stop because of the massive structural damage he was causing to the building.

I’m not even going to start on the guy I knew how was a FIRE BELT in Muay Thai.
