Elite XC Middleweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith slugged it out in Newark, N.J. on May 31 during the network mixed martial arts debut on CBS.

It was without a doubt on its way to becoming one of the best fights of the year before it ended because of an inadvertent eye poke, resulting in a disappointing no contest.

The outcome forced Elite XC officials to set up an immediate rematch, which will be the main event on CBS this Saturday in Stockton, Calif., during Elite XC: “Unfinished Business” event.

In case the excitement of their first fight has worn off for you — and this rematch doesn’t have you drooling with anticipation — ProElite.com has decided to provide a free video of Lawler vs. Smith I. You’ll be able to watch the epic back-and-forth battle as many times as you like from now until fight time on Saturday.

XC is so WWE. It is staged for a fightert to win, not a staged fight but clearly set-up

How could they possibly stage it? U do realize that the judges are not hired by Elitexc right? All this fights being staged stuff is crap, and it cheapens the sport….I wish that mania, wouldnt let u post crap like that….

Hater.

Gary Shaw staged an inadvertant eye poke during the best fight EliteXC has ever had while its being broadcast live on national network television so that they would have to end the fight, and have a rematch.

That’s logical. lol

that last sentence was sarcasm for all the re-re’s out there.

Ditto. First fight was why I watch the sport. Crappy the way it ended, but that is also the sport.

This should be an interesting fight. I do think that the viewership will be a lot less than their last card though.

I think they should expect around 3.5-4 million viewers seeing as press has been high, the first event turned a lot of heads and at the end of the day the sport develops its own interest simply by being so intense and different from other sports.

I don’t see Lawler letting this one out of the third but hey, I didn’t think Smith would make it out of the first in their first fight so who knows.

It would be nice to see some Lawler ground work though, that might give some of his top ten naysayers less of a case.

I know a couple people that have never watched MMA but watched EliteXC on CBS and they loved it.

Just saw a commercial tonight for the Kimbo/tank DVD. I wonder if ANYONE will buy that. If they do, I have things of equal value in some large green cans out back of my house that I’m willing to part with for a small fee.

This is gonna be a stellar fight. It seems to be going a bit under the radar with last weekends incredible action, and the new announcement of Fedor vs Arlovski.

There are some good fights on this. Diaz vs Denny. Shields vs Thompson. If they dont screw up the production, it should be an alright event.

But, they aren’t going to get very good ratings. People tuned in last time to see the hype around Kimbo. That flopped. Some people saw a real fight in Lawler vs Smith, and want to see action like that again, so they’ll tune in, but the numbers are still gonna drop a hella lot.
