The weigh-ins for Saturday’s Elite XC: “Unfinished Business” will be open to the public at the Stockton Arena, in Stockton, Calif., this Friday, July 25. The fighters will begin to tip the scales at 2 p.m. local time on the North Side Concourse Level of the venue.
With there being so much local talent on this card, the weigh-ins will likely be an event in itself. If nothing else, it’s always interesting to try and get a read on what mindset a fighter is in as he stares down his opponent.
Plus, we all know Nick Diaz had a lot of trouble making 160 pounds in his June 14 fight against Muhsin Corbbrey. He came in at a jaw-dropping nine pounds over the limit. His opponent for Saturday — Thomas “Wildman” Denny — has not been shy about saying Diaz better be on weight for this fight or he won’t hesitate to pull out.
It should be noted that Nick Diaz is always in great shape. The fact that he was also training for a welterweight title fight against a super-tough Hayato “Mach” Sakurai around that same time may have had something to do with him not making weight — he was likely trying to bulk up to deal with Sakurai’s strength.
It’s doubtful Diaz will put this fight — the first of his pro career in his hometown — in jeopardy of being canceled over a weight issue. He’ll likely be on weight, but we won’t know until he actually gets on the scale Friday afternoon.
See you then.

I wonder if Scott Smith will be able to find a game plan that will pay dividends this time. He was being out classed by Lawler prior to the cut. I like Scott. He’s got a nice ass.
Gary Shaw’s quadruple chin is awesome.
i live in sac and this isnt even worth the tank of gas it would take to get there… il watch the fight but im not paying for it
These are the fans of mma we need to get rid of.. THE CHEAP POOR ONES WHO JUST WATCH THE FIGHTS FREE ON THE NET. you dont buy pay per views , you dont go too events so how the hell do you Show your support for the sport you love. Go get a job you cheap s.o.b
This isn’t a ppv card, it is on ABC this saturday, with a couple of fights on Showtime. That being said, I have paid for a lot of cards, but I would never pay for this or probably any other Elite XC card. They just don’t have a great product.
Correction, it is on CBS. Also, has anyone seen much press for this? Most people I know forgot all about this card.
I see comercials for this event all the time. This will probably be IMO, the best EliteXC event to date. I cant wait to see Big Foot in actyion and Sheilds vs. thospn and Lawler vs. Smith shouulhd turn out to be hard fought WARS!
i have a job…i love the sport…im also a struggling student with a bunch of school loans, a gold-diggin gf to take care of (she mooches off my financial aid), and a life outside of MMA. so buyin PPV and goin to MMA shows isnt exactly in my budget…but i did buy a poster of gina carrano for a couple bucks from a kid down the street (supporting the sport AND the local economy!).
AND kleenex AND aloe vera lotion
Ridiculous comment. Completely ridiculous. So what if someone picks and chooses what they watch, or doesn’t purchase PPV. All you have to do is watch the commercials, which will make you a possible customer of the companies that pay to support MMA (just like in every other sport). Then, when given a choice of which products to buy, purchase one that advertises on MMA. I don’t buy PPV’s for football, basketball etc. And secondly, why bother buying a PPV that one is not interested in? If you aren’t interested in a company’s fights, don’t buy it. That sends the message to put on better fights and productions. That is our right as consumers. Thirdly, THIS IS NOT A PPV!
I can’t think of the last football/basketball game that was on PPV.
Unless you’re referring to cable’s “season ticket” package where you can watch every game, like if your favorite team is from the opposite side of the country.
VM, I was making the point that you can be a fan of other things and not have to buy PPV’s. Sorry , sometimes my brain goes a million miles a minute and I leave things out. I also post mainly a t work and there might not be time to put everything in that I want. It just gets me a little riled up when this whole “you’re not a real MMA fan if you do or don’t do certain things” gets brought up. IMO a real MMA fan is: someone who enjoys watching MMA enough where they will watch it again and encourage others to do so.
Chef: thats a solid definition! cant argue with that
im in the same boat as this guy
i live a little north of sac city but still in the county and i wouldn’t pay for any elite xc product i might consider it if gina was fighting or kimbo was fighting bigfoot so i could watch him die but not this sh!t
Shaw just looks like a big mess
I couldn’t care less for this event. I’m turning my attentions towards the real fight of the weekend - COTTO VS MARGARITO. I’ll catch the results for lawler vs smith on sunday
Thats what I’m talking about!!! I’m still a boxing fan also, so finally a fight worthy of PPV. I have to go with Margarito on this one. Cotto is the man though, real tuff mofo. But, Margarito has an iron chin, throws about 100 punches a round and has punching power. Cotto has the better boxing, and can also punch. Who do you think Cristiano from Brazil???
Other way around, I will watch EliteXC on Saturday and catch the replay of Cotto/Margaritto the next morning because that is one of the few boxing fights that are guarenteed classics now a days! I have no idea who wins that fight….If I had to guess, I would say Cotto!
Is the Cotto fight simply on HBO or is it PPV???
Miguel Cotto is a SCARY dude in the boxing ring!!!
Its PPV
This is the first Elite xc card I am looking foward to.
Well JV, it’s hard not to go with Cotto nowadays. I think Margarito will be his toughest test to date (even tougher than Mosley). I’ll have to go with Cotto by close decision, but anything can happen. This fight has everything to be an instant classic, just like De la Hoya vs Mayweather.

Sorry for the double post, I thought I was being moderated
