This is a NO brainer in my mind….Affliction all the way!
Good heavyweights are hard to find and this card is just too stacked with most of the top guys in the weight class, that I cant pass this card up.

IMO this is a very Big Deal.

Just heard Trump on ESPNews…Promoting Affliction, he is the man, at the end of the interview he said Affliction is basically backed by a bunch of Ritch guys and we are going to have some fun with this….He’s the man, if I was in his position i would be doing the same thing!

My thoughts on Saturday nights REAL MAIN EVENT, Fedor/Sylvia

I was going through my Pride dvd’s all week, and man am I hyped. There is no fighter I would rather watch than Fedor.

His submissions and ground n pound get most of the praise, but people seem to under rate his stand up. He is NAST standing. He has a mean (leading hand) left hook that is very explosive, and he usually follows it up with some great combos: Hooks/uppercutts to the head and body of his opponents, also his leg kicks and body kicks are outstanding. Tim wont present anything that Fedor hasnt seen before…He already knocked off Semmy Shilt who IMO is a better version of Tim Sylvia. Look to the Couture/Sylvia fight….Tim was so worried about being taken down by Randy that he left himself wide open and let Randy outstrike him, and if we are being honest, Coutures stand up is pathetic when compared to Fedor’s…Randy lacks the power/speed/ that Fedor has in the stand up. If Tim was so scared to get taken down by randy, then he will be petrified of going to the ground against Fedor who has a ground n pound, so brutal that I really cant compare it to anyone elses….on top of that Fedor’s submissions are world class….I expect Tim to be frieghtened of being taken down (as he should be) which should make it pretty easy for Fedor to bang him up in the stand up until he gets the fight to the ground…then its…GAME OVER!!!!!

Intangibles: Go to Fedor! Why, simple, he is just a stone cold winner. Thats what he does, He flat out wins, he has that “It factor”. He wins every scramble always landing in a good position.

He handles the nerves so much better than most of his opponents. Come Saturday when they are both in the ring, Fedor will be calm and cool as Ice (business as usual) and if anyone thinks that Tim isnt going to be filled with Nerves and some doubt, then they are sadly dillusional!

QUESTION: Did anyone catch Cung Le’s interview opn ESPN the other day? I missed it, I would like to know if he said anything about his fighting career?…not so interested in his movie roles

john, you are forgeting that Fedors takedowns are pathetic compared to Randy’s. Also ,just like BJ believes licking the blood of his opponents, lets him steal there strength, well Sylvia believes licking their semen does the same. Tim will now also have AA’s strengths, so Fedor is done. LOL.

Dana White Comments On Rampage Situation

By Jason Perkins | July 17, 2008

Dana White Comments On Rampage SituationUFC president Dana White was a guest on the Los Angeles based KLOS-FM morning show and made the following comments on the Rampage situation:

“I’m actually here right now, I’m in Southern California,” said White. “I’ve been dealing with this all day yesterday, I haven’t really gotten to the bottom of this yet. I don’t know what I’m going to do about it yet. Last night when he got out, Rampage is very religious…yeah I’m dealing with it.”

One of the hosts of the show asked if Rampage would be fined for his behavior:

“It’s not really about a fine,” said White. “At the end of the day, we care about these guys. A lot of these guys are our friends. I want to find out what’s wrong with Rampage and get him taken care of.”

Dana did the right thing by going to bat for his fighter. It shows that he really does care for his guys. We all have to remember just how busy Dana is…especially 2 days before a major event. But what does he do, he drops everything and fly’s out to be with his fighter who’s in trouble.

Mad respect Dana…

Now in response to Johns comments about Fedors game plan. I HIGHLY doubt Fedor will be doing much standing with Timmeh once he relizes that his arms are about a foot shorter then tims. If Fedor comes in to this fight and tries to showcase standup…then we will be watching Tim put on the Wamma belt. I dont care how good his lead hand is since Tim will be using his long ass leg kicks and his jab to make sure Fedor “lead hand” is a non issue. Fedor will look to fake a shot and go for the take down. I really think Tim poses a great problem for Fedor. This is going to be fight of the year. Tims takedown def. and reach will force Fedor to change his gameplan from most fights.

U complain that Affliction is putting champions vs. Bums, well wake up you UFC nutthugger, that is what the main event is on the UFC UFN event! But since u saw Irvin Ko Houston (who is probably your favorite fighter) and u heard a couple of Irvin’s interviews the past couple of weeks, u suddenly feel like he is a worthy competitor to what people say is the best P4P fighters in the world. Learn to differenatiate between what is true, and what is marketing. Fools like u that just drink the company kool aid all day, are a marketers DReam… Like we say in Italy….A boca, A boca!

The problem here John is your comparring the UFC and the Affliction card when most of the things people want to use to seperate the cards only points out what is the same in the card. For example what do you think they are doing with Arlovski and Sylvia? They are marketing them becasue they are well known in the UFC and this is how they want to build their company. Afflicition is trying to do something great and I understand that but you shouldn’t be cramming it down peoples throats and saying they would be hurting MMA if they don’t purchase it. Honestly why should I purchase something when I believe I know the winner of most of the fights and know I can catch it for free later on? Why pay $40 for something when I can get a similar product for free? I just don’t get it, not to mention that the UFC has their fights on again immediately following Affliction giving the fans the chance to see both. You also forget that the whole world does not have supreme cable with 3 dvrs per room man. I can’t throw $1500 on a fight and lose it and be good to go like a lot of the guys on this site are doing. If I lost that kind of money I would be forced to give up MMA. This is apples to oranges do you want to save some money because lets face it both of these cards we basicly figure Silva and Fedor are going to win, Vera and Arlovski are going to win. Also man do you see how much you market for Affliction? You are basicly Afflictions whole marketing campaign I swear. Best of luck to Affliction cause I will watch their fights and I do hope they do good but I don’t need to dish out another $40 for it.

Irvin is a very exciting fighter, but if you are going to try and sit here and tell me that he deserves a fight with who you all label the best pound 4 pound fighter in the world, then you are all crazy! Can Irvin win the fight, Absolutely, its MMA and he has 1 hell of a punchers chance…but to say that he deserves to be fighting a top pound for pound fighter when he isnt even a top 10 Light Heavyweight is disturbing! Get a CLUE!!!
I actually bet on Irvin, so of course I think he has a shot at winning….That doesnt mean I feel he deserves to fight the Spider.

If Irvin wins it will be a Collosal upset…up there with Serra over GSP. The odds are 7-1 HELLO!!!!

The fight wont mean anything, because if Silva gets upset, it wont change ANYTHING!!! He will still be champion and this fight will be reduced to a hyped up exhibition fight. It may be exciting, but it means NOTHING!!~!!

Affliction is providing us with 2 top 5 Heavyweights that could never fight against each other before, in a 5 round fight.. What is wrong with you people. Do u not know who Fedor is? This is a relevant fight to mma!

This is a real main event!

I would rather see Silva defend his title against the Boring Yushin Okami, in what is actually RELEVANT fight, then have Silva vs. Irvin….Entertaining, yet pointless!

U people are all dislexic. I bet on Irvin, HELLO!! THat means I think he has a shot…..That in NO WAY means that he deserves to be fighting the spider.

I cant believe its even a comparison in some of your eyes. I think Affliction is the Obvious choice!

To each his own!

You’re hyping up Fedor like he’s meant something the last couple years. I much rather watch someone fight (Silva) who has been EXTREMELY relevant the last 2 years, and now that he’s cleaned up the MW division he’s fighting a strong 205 KO power guy just to challenge himself and solidify his greatness (even though it doesn’t “mean” anything to you).

Sorry Silva vs Irvin is much more intriguing.

Comment by Smokes
2008-07-17 17:17:52

How can it not be relevant if Silva loses to Irvin? I’ve heard a lot of people saying the fight is irrelevant but for Irvin he just beat considerably the best P4P fighter in the world. Also when your the champion of your weight class and can’t beat the B class fighters in the class above you thats saying something as well. We all know that if Silva can’t beat Irvin they can spin it but a loss is a loss and when you are supposed to be the best 20 to 30 pounds is not something that should be able to beat you. I am also thinking that if this fight does not go well for Silva will they even consider moving GSP or Penn up in weight classes. I mean look Liddell had to fight for his right to go fight in Pride and when he lost nobody has cross promoted since. Just because this isn’t for the LHW title contention doesn’t mean the fight is irrelevant. All you are still comparing is the fight cards which isn’t really that big of a deal. The only fight you can really say should make that card worth the money is the main event and I don’t agree that its worth $40. Tim has been a bum in his last few fights and Fedor has been fighting lower level fighters. That doesn’t get anyone amped up, they have already put a title on the line and to be honest a lot of what Affliction is doing is scaring me. I don’t want them to end up like EXC which I hate and Affliction might do that because I don’t like half time shows and Tom. I love their card but other than the HW’s who do they have to keep me excited. I know this has been pointed out but HW’s are usually slow and boring man, your telling me the most technical and explosive fighter around is not worth Free but a sluggish bum and Fedor (I wouldn’t trash talk this man) is worth $40?

SMOKES: Of Course I am comparing the 2 cards! Read trhe thread! It sure looks like it says “UFC vs. Affliction”, We agree that is what it says? Then why the F would I not compare them.

THere is no right or wrong answer, its all a matter of taste an oppinion. I simply said, that in my eyes, its a no brainer! watch what u want but if Silva gets Ko’ed by Irvin, it will get swept under the rug and it will be like it never happened. Silva would still be champion, and would still be the man… Not a bad deal for Silva, he gets to headline an event with out risking his title! Silva has very little on the line, especially since he has made it clear that he doesnt plan on going after the light heavy weight title.

Fedor vs. Tim is a very relevant fight. Anyone who hates on Fedor, is just stupid in my eyes, and we will probably never see eye to eye, so there ius really no point in debating. I am not saying Fedor hgas to be oyur favorite fighter, but if you dont acknowledge him as a top heavyweight and one of top mma fighters in the world, then I have no respecvt for you and I think your knowledge of the spoort is NOVICE at best, and we probably shouldnt be talking!

Cheers! and enjoy your saturday night!

I hope Irvin KO’s Silva in devastating Fashion just to shut up the naysayers. This is fighting…the onyl fights people should “deserve” are when we talk titles. That is something you should earn and “deserve.”

I personally think Trigg as a broad-castor does a horrible job. The way says “OH NO!!” all the time is annoying. “Oh no” what? Affliction takes it by a long shot you UFC FANATICS….so i guess there are ufc fans…then there are MMA fans that will watch both like myself and most here i take it. competition is great! This is why we were telling all ‘ufc be all end all fans’ that any competition was good for the sport, though many kept saying we dont need competition we just want everybody in the same UFC organization…sheesh we woulda never had these fights if that were the case.

I agree that we all benefit from more MMA, but this is there very first card in a new sport. This will not determine there staying power. Affliction will have to have a few cards before even its owners/promoters know what kind of business they are getting into. I know they cross promote, but with their current stable of fighters and the other fighters not signed in the ufc, we’re looking at round robbins for there first two or three cards. Same exact fighters with different match ups. I am a big Fedor fan, but he is figjhting Tim sylvia. fedor by sub or Tim by decision. I’ll get the results from mania, and watch the fights online.

I’ve been on dates at by Brazilians spots where I spent with tip and everything..50 or 55 dollars. for 2 people.

There Brazilian Res..like Porcao..or Plataforma.. which is some hig hend shit.. your spending 75$ a head easy. no drinks included. only reservation type shit. F’ That.. I stick with my Dee L spots.

Hence the myth that Herring didn’t attack Nog after dropping him with a kick, which has been spread by people who obviously didn’t watch the fight (he hit him with like 15 shots, then got up after nog regained guard).

You should try to watch the UFC with MMA fans, it´s much more exiting.

Not, seriusly, it´s hard to belive that there´s still someone out there that don´t know the best fighter of the short history of the MMA. Fedor is a live legend, a man that has fight the best in the world and have beat their asses, not only winning, but passing over everybody he has fought (in fact the only loss in his record is a cut stopage due to an ilegal elbow, so you can say he is unbeated).

I´m very exited about the fight, I just hope that Fedor will not suffer some rust because of the inactivity.

Let’s face it…I’m much more a fan of the UFC than any other organization, but I’m much more excited for the Affliction card. Fedor, Tim, Josh, Pedro, Andrei, Ben, Aleks, and Paul. Those are some very stellar HWs and possible]y 6 out of the top 10 in the world. Plus the Lil Nog, Lindland, and Vitor. Anyone who was with MMA before 2000, pre-TUF, and is well versed in the UFC and Pride will obviously know that Affliction is a MMA fan’s card. I can’t wait to see Fedor get smashed by Tim, Josh is one of my favs and IMO is better than Fedor. I can’t stand Rothwell and I hope AA slaps him around. I always love seeing Lil Nog’s BJJ and Vitors comeback will be choice. I haven’t seen Lindland in awhile and IMO he would make Anderson Silva say uncle.

UFC’s card is nice because it’s free. I think Anderson Silva is very, very overrated and I’m dying for Irvin to put all of this P4P ish to rest. The only other fight I like is Hermes vs. Frankie, but the Vera fight I could carless about. Andy Reese doesn’t do it for me.

So, coming from a huge UFC fan the Affliction card is better.

Affliction is the better card by far, I agree.

If he can get him down..which he should be able to..it’s over for Tim. He’ll pull the same style that couture did on Tim and he should finish.

If Tim can keep it up, it will be alot more interesting.

I am happy that there are two events on that night. I’ve watched UFC for a long time, but I’m a major fan of Andrei Arlovski, and that has my attention. Not to only mention, that this is the best fight card (Affliction) that I’ve ever seen.
