ufc fight night 14 weigh in
Not to be outdone, the UFC will stage its weigh in event for “Silva vs. Irvin” on Friday, July 18 at The Pearl” at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the ballrooms located on the second floor of the Fantasy.

This event is also FREE to attend and open to the public … what a great time to be a mixed martial arts fan.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. local time and fighters are expected to begin tipping the scales one hour later around 5 p.m. local time. This event will not be beamed live online or on television; however, the promotion is usually pretty good about getting a highlight package up quickly.

We’ll pass along all the particulars and that video (if possible) as soon as possible.

UFC Fight Night 14 features the light heavyweight debut of UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva against James Irvin. It’s a non-title fight, but there is still a lot at stake … especially for Irvin. He has an amazing opportunity to defeat perhaps the best pound-for-pound mixed martial artist on the planet in front of a national television audience.

Five other bouts — six total — are all guaranteed to be featured on the three-hour Spike TV telecast, which is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 19. To check out the complete UFC Fight Night card click here.

Remember that MMAmania.com will also provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night. Of course, the latest quick updates of the prelim bouts will begin to flow earlier than that at around 8:00 p.m. ET.

It’s going to be a BUSY night of fights … check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight coverage you can handle.

This will be one hell of a MMa night this weekend! July in general has alot of fights booked and I cant wait for them all.

I will be purchasing the Affliction ppv, and watching the UFN on the replay later that night..I really want to watch Anderson’s debut at 205 live, but with what Affliction is planning on doing in the MMa world I have too support..(plus the line-up is crazy)..The UFC doesn’t “NEED” me right now, Affliction Banned does..They are most likely already not going to make money off this event, and they should know they will have to take a profit loss, but they still need to get enough buy’s too show them where they stand.

In my opinion the more MMa promotions the better! And when you can already see that the Affliction guy’s are on the right path with giving the fans what they want to see, then that tells me they should be a quality MMa org, So I must support.

Stager: I am completely on your side with this one. The reasons u stated is exactly why I will be supporting Affliction on Saturday night! They are trying to do something that fans have been asking for years…..I hope they succeed, and shame on those who wont be supporting them come Saturday!

We get affliction for free on the Sunday :)

I’ll be watching UFN 14 on my usual on-line channels first :)

Sorry forgot to add, hope affliction really takes off too, they’ll get my support.

The UFC has kind of shafted a lot of people in the UK by switching all their fights, including free ones, to a different provider (Setanta) who chrage you a monthly subscription i.e. we pay for free fights :(

I don’t think it should be a problem. It’s not like people that will follow UFC and people that will follow Affliction are mutually exclusive. In fact, I bet 90% of the people that will be online Saturday are following both.

silva will walk through this division just like he walked through the middleweights. He should have gotten a title shoy right away though.

I’m a huge Anderson Silva fan, but nog even he deserves to jump right into the title picture in the LHW division, its just to deep for that. Not to mention Silva has stated he has no interest in chasing that title as long as Machida is in the picture.

After Machida loses his next fight, Anderson will have no problem going after the LHW title… Anderson vs Liddell / Griffin winner!! Can’t wait to see it!!

so the spider is now a can? I understand you’re not a spider fan, but to call him a can is just beyond reality.

I like Irvin and was a fan until his fight with my boy Luis Cane..IMO Irvin probably could have waited the five minutes and still fought, but instead imo he acted more hurt then he really was..After that fight I kind of look at Irvin a different way..Dont get me wrong’ he is still a very entertaining fighter and I always enjoy watching him fight, I just feel he took the easy way out when fighting Cane…I mean up until that point Irvin was getting killed.

Maybe I am a little biased on account of I am a HUGE Luis Cane fan, and I talked highly about him before he came to the UFC and that fight was his first loss and his debut in the UFC..

The only way Irvin wins this fight is if he can land one of his “well timed, accurate” bombs he can throw..
I dont see this happening, but it is a possibility..
My prediction is Andeson Silva with a first round victory via “ballet of violence”..

Stager: I would like to see your Boy Cane (who u have made me a fan of) vs. Gorenj …that fight would be badass!

Or even Luis Cane vs. Antonio Mendes, who although he lost to Thiago Silva, is a beast of a fighter!

john, Cane is one nasty dude with a great all around MMa game..His stand-up is crisp meanwhile his JJ is what he does best, but he uses it as his back-up..He likes to stand and bang. He reminds me of Anderson Silva..
IMO-He will quickly move up the LHW ladder, and that is not easy with 205 being the most stacked division..

Reljic vs. Cane would be fire-works!!and Mendes would be a great scrap aswell..Or even Mendes vs. Reljic..

Wow you got to love the Light Heavy division, even the less popular 205er’s are great..

Linx-

FYI : In this context srd meant Irvin kicking Silva’s can (slang for ass or butt)

I don’t think he meant that Silva was a can (slang for a weak opponent)

Irvin will be a bigger challenge for Silva than Franklin or Leben were.. He has great stand up, very good muay thai, speed and power. He throws his punches straight and in the clinch he will fare far better than Franklin did.. Leben when he fought Silva was a catcher.. I am sure Irvin will have much better defense.. And it is FREE!!!!!
