matt brownFormer The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 contestant, Matt Brown (7-6), will take on undefeated Korean import, Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim (10-0-1), at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” in Atlanta, Ga., on September 6, according to MFight.co.kr.

Brown — who was eliminated from the show by eventual tournament winner Amir Sadollah via triangle choke in the semifinals — bounced back to defeat Matt Arroyo via technical knockout at the TUF 7 Finale last month. It was just his second win in his last five fights and the first inside the Octagon.

That makes him essentially perfect within the eight-sided cage (1-0) just like his opponent when it comes time to throw down in the “Peach State.”

Kim stopped Jason Tan in his inaugural Octagon appearance at UFC 84: “Ill Will” back in May, pounding out his opponent with elbows in the final frame. The promising DEEP veteran will look to keep his perfect record intact and climb the welterweight ladder one rung at a time.

Should be exciting. Kim is a beast, and could be pretty big in the future

Stun Gun is the real deal. His ground game is as if he trained in Sao Paulo Brazil. The guy is a beast.

THats his nick name? stun gun? I like it! This will be a great fight stylistically.

Advantage has to be in Kim’s favor, he is freaking HUGE for the division! I would like to see 2 of the bigger welterweights go at it:

Kim vs. Rumble Johnson that would be a great fight!

That is an ugly record for Matt Brown. If he demeanor inside the ring could only match up with the one he has outside, he could be a serious threat. I didn’t see his fight with Arroyo, how did he look at 170?

impressive…his record is misleading, he’s lost to some tough guys/bad style matches…he is definately not someone to overlook.

Matt Brown by, uh, murder. Nah, nevermind. He sucks. Maybe he would have a chance if he caught Kim tea-bagging his chaw.

the brown/arroyo fight was awesome. arroyo was doing well early on, but brown is a tough dude. see for yourself.

If Matt Brown starts off slow, he will be crushed. But the dude can take a hit, just his submission defense is average and it scares me.

Kim is definitely someone to keep an eye on. He is freaking huge for a WW. The guy is 6′3 and fights at WW and still a bit muscular. He is like a WW version of Yushin Okami, but with a better ground and pound. My money would be on Kim.

Thanks for that link Jack, been wanting to see that fight. Brown is a tough SOB for sure, this fight is probably a little over his head though. Maybe you guys can remember, but I can’t think of any TUF alum - especially someone who didn’t even make the finals - having this tough an opponent in only his 2nd UFC fight. Usually its the exact opposite, cans for TUF vets early. Not sure what that means for Brown as far as where the UFC thinks he fits in.

Nah, usually they feed the losers to up and comers that were signed. This is the typical trend.

whats the point in the ultimate fighter if they carry on bringing in the losers? they lost and shouldn’t be in it as far as i am concerned ! there’s better people out there that deserve a shot

They don’t get guaranteed contracts like the winners. By virtue of being on TV for 3 months most of the UFC-watching public knows who they are and has some interest in watching them fight. If they lose once or twice, they’re out.

dh kim deifinitely looks like an exciting an addition, but i think it’s still too early to say who he should be fighting and who he shouldn’t. as a korean-american myself, nothing excites me more than to see a a fellow korean gain recognition and make it to such a big stage such as the ufc (and to mmamania). but i think the ufc’s intentions would be that they liked what they saw against tan, and they think he can do very well in the WW div, but they’d like to see what he can do and figure out more about him in matching him up against an oponent such as brown.

so in essence, i think we’ll all have a better idea what kim brings to the plate after we see this match up. regardless of who kim fights next, it would be without a doubt his most important fight ever, as a convincing win in a dominating fashion would solidy more fight/tv time.

Matt Brown will be outclassed in every area just like Jason Tan.

there is a difference between a punch and a grapple. you cant get out if you get in to a good grapple. even though you can take a single good punch

Matt Brown might have a chance but Dong Kim has a better advantage becuase he’s taller and more skilled.

Dong Hyun Kim has a much better advantage because he’s fought in the ufc longer than matt brown and he’s undefeated but matt brown might have a chance and would br a good fight for Kim maybe!
