One-armed boxers. Retractable limbs. MMA death-tournaments. And of course a homicidal blind man with a flying guillotine.

Really, what more can you ask for when shopping for a classic martial arts movie?

I thought I would take a break from the usual UFC/PRIDE stuff and present one of my all-time favorites of the genre: Master of the Flying Guillotine. Now available in a deluxe anniversary edition teeming with bonuses and special features, this tale of murder and vengeance influenced video games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, as well as many of today’s top martial arts movies.

Master of the Flying Guillotine stars martial arts legend Jimmy Wang Yu (who also wrote and directed) as the One-Armed Boxer, a warrior who has remained true to the recently overthrown Ming Dynasty. A league of kung fu masters are tracking down rebels with a new, deadly weapon: The flying guillotine. An unbeatable, almost supernatural blind man is the king of these killers.

After the One-Armed Boxer defeats two of the blind master’s disciples, the blind master goes to a martial arts tournament to kill every one-armed man he meets until he has slain the One-Armed Boxer. The wild mix of fighting styles at the tournament (using ropes, swords, sticks, Eagle’s Claw, Thai kickboxing, and Hindu magic) provides a spectacular centerpiece.

It’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a martial arts movie and the culminating battle in a coffin shop by itself is worth the price of the DVD.

Check it out!

Master of the Flying Guillotine is available for purchase in our DVD store for $19.99 by clicking here.

This is a bad ass martial arts movie from the 70s. It’s probably what inspired Dhalsim from Street Fighter. Watch it, it’s bad ass, albeit cheesy at times. I’m a sucker for these types of movies.

mac danzig on forrest griffin

“I might be a little biased because Forrest is a good friend and training partner, but in my opinion Forrest won the fight hands down, three rounds to two. He outworked him from beginning to end, and even though not everything he threw landed, at least he fought the whole time instead of just looking for one big shot. You know, Forrest trained hard for this fight and it showed. He was training in the gym everyday, not running around with a chain around his neck, telling people he’s a thug.”

Danzig is not being a little bias.. he is being totally bias.. I realized who ever you were pulling more to win that fight.. is who you thought won the fight.. A real good friend of mine and me..it’s like we saw to different fights..we totally disagree..I was going to choke his ass out on July 5th..but cooler heads prevailed. How do we judge a MMA fight?? 10 point must system gots to go. It works for boxing, but not for MMA in IMO.. I liked how Pride judged fights..now regardless of who the judges awarded to “W” to on Saturday night..Page/Forrest need to rematch like sometime next week. F that.

I liked how pride judged fights, but there were some messed up decisions. Ninja Rua used to get screwed pretty bad on decisions, ie. Ninja vs Henderson, that was pretty bad = /

And also that fight between Nog and Ricco Rodriquez in Pride in ‘03; that was sad. Even Bas and the fight prof couldn’t hide their disdain on that decision. I think the only argument anyone made was that Nog attempted more submissions and maybe got the edge for trying to finish the fight but other than that he was pretty much dominated on the ground and the pride judges still gave it to him.

MMAM, WHAT IS KEITH JARDINE’S PHYSICAL STATUS POST THE WANDERLEI FIGHT???

Comment by PhilQNY
2008-07-09 08:20:30

At the fight against former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell at UFC 76. Jardine defeated Liddell by split decision[2] [3] and was considered one of the competitive candidates challenging the UFC light heavyweight championship. However, at the fight against the former PRIDE middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84, Jardine lost by knockout due to punches at 36 seconds in round one, which postponed his journey to a title match. Jardine was rigid and unconscious for up to three minutes after the knockout, prompting concern from the ringside medical staff, fans and even his opponent. He was hospitalised for several days following this bout, after receiving severe damage to his jaw previously from Alexander Houston, and now Wanderlei Silva, Jardine’s jaw is now held in place with wire, his continuation in the UFC is unlikely.

While watching the Wanderlei/Jardine fight, everybody knew that Jardine got SERIOUSLY beat down - rape choke and all! But possibly career ending??? WOW!!!!

Jardine had a big size advantage in that fight. Can you imagine Wanderlei Silva, or excuse me, the Axe Muderer, fighting at MW? He would literally kill people. If that is the case, can he please start with Bisping. LOL

Yeah, I think Wandy is just too scary for most of the UFC middleweights….He may catch a body if he drops down to 185 lbs!

I hope Jardine is OK, and can continue fighting…I am not his biggest fan but he is a top fighter who does not deserve to have his career cut short!

VM..Your post made me laugh..hard. hehhehehehehe…

John: That was a stiff KO that Jardine received. To add Houston did some damage to his frame to begin with..then to get touched up by a pissed Wany..coming off a loss to Chuck. Woah. When I saw that I knew he was hurt. I don’t know if the UFC will keep him on the roster with that kind of injury. I don’t know even if he wants to keep fighting with that kind of injury. If he gets slapped wrong it’s a wrap for him.

MMA fighters jaws have been broken in the past, and they did not have to retire. Aaron Riley comes to mind.

I am now VERY interested in finding out more about Jardine’s status.

I went to Keith’s website, and he appears fine. He says he is training and trying to get back on track. No talk of a broken jaw or injured jaw or retirement. i think the wikipedia quote is a joke or something.

Hey James S, i read that too but it’s really vague and gives no real specifics on his medical condition. I don’t want to sound paranoid but it just doesn’t ring true to me. I really like Jardine and hope he’s ok.

MMA Mania: i have contacted you a few times on this one, but haven’t heard anyting? We’re big boys and if The Dean is badly hurt then we should know about it.

Love this movie, especially the last fight. The shot of the master with the doves just shows who John Woo was copying.

What’s so deluxe about the DVD though? Is the image quality digitally remastered?
