Fitch has nothing but his wrestling, and GSP has already proven he can out-wrestle anyone in the WW division. GSP will put Fitch on his back, frustrate him into a mistake, then get the arm bar in round 3.
Why would BJ beat GSP now? What does BJ do better than GSP? I think there pretty equal, except in size & strenght. I would be one of the best fights this year so I hope it happens.
Benns Bjj, is world class, Gsp’s is no where close, on the stand up it’ Benn also, the only thing better that GSP has is his wrestling, But been has some of the best takedown defence in the world. Everyone is always on a Champians nutts.
Grr, wouldn’t post my last comment, anyway, Bj is way better in his Bjj, and his stand up, the onlything better that GSP has is his Wrestling, and BJ has some of the best takedown defence in the game, I think now thats he’s in better shape Condition wise, he can beat Gsp.
BJ does have world class BJJ, but GSP’s BJJ from top position is obviously world class, and Penn is not a guy to sub many people off his back. He isn’t subbing GSP off his back, and that’s where he’s going to be.
As for an in-shape Penn, he’s in shape at 155. If he wants to fight at 170, he still has to prove he can be in shape at 170. GSP is a monster at that weight, with great cardio, strength, and explosiveness.

BJ obviously has the better BJJ than GSP.
I would also say that he has the better improvosational skills.
The stand up would either be relatively close, but I would give the advantage to GSP for sure. BJ does not utilize kicks. He is a boxer as far as striking goes. GSP’s striking arsenal is much larger.
One of the main factors to this fight will be how BJ gains the extra weight. Even if he adds all muscle though, GSP will still be bigger and stonger.
Im just saying he’s the only one with a chance, VM, I love Kos, also, so mabey is he figures out how to combine everything together, and actually use his wrestling in there next fight, then he might have a chance also.

“Everyone is always on the champions nuts” thats funny considering your talking about BJ who is also a champ. I just cant see how BJ would win. The only thing BJ has improved is his cardio. GSP has improved everything, thats why he was in Brazil training his JJ. It would be a good fight though.
wow he was in Brazil training his Bjj for a few weeks or months, benn’s been doing it his whole life. and yeah benns a champ, but not at 170. I just hate Gsp, Becuase He beat old man hughes for his first title, then Beat Serra to get it back, Not impressive. If he beats fitch without a decision, then i’ll give him respect.

Beccuase I can’t spell worth crap, and don’t recheck what i wrote haha. I can see fitch beating gsp also. Gsp hasn’t convinced me yet, not finishing guys like Kos, and Benn, that have the ability to beat Gsp, But finishing cans like Hughes, and Serra.(I like Hughes but he’s past his time).

LOL at the troll Chase saying GSP beat “old man” Hughes for his first title. That same “old man Hughes” had just smashed BJ Penn’s face in 2 months before that to retain his title. Did he get old during those 2 months?
BTW, GSP has faced and beaten the toughest opponents of any champ. Just do a quick check on the records of all the guys he’s beaten (and mostly destroyed).
I’ve been watching ufc for like 5 years, Like I said i just favor penn more then Gsp, Fitch is good, and I can see him beating GSP also, I don’t see how he is more of a threat though, If Penn was actually Bigger in size, i think more people would bett on him, But when your as talented as benn and Gsp, Str does come into play, I don’t care is fitch beats GSP, that would be better, Cuase Penn could fight GSP, and earn a title shot at fitch.

alot of people underestimate gsp’s flexability, he’s not all double jointed like penn, but it does enable him to stay on top of his opponents(along with his stength) and not get subbed. bj. never came close to pulling anything off on gps in their 1rst fight. b.j is a much better fighter now, but so is gsp.
I wonder if Roger and Kenny will come out to the same fight music.. in both their last fights they had the same fight music. ( Victory 2004 )..I’m just curious.
I would imagine that they would come out to different songs.
Instead of being a #1 contender fight, perhaps this fight should be to decide who gets to keep thier entrance music. Now that’s something to fight for!
Which way do you think the odds will start to move? Its kinda tough taking Kenny at -140 even though I see him as a slight favorite. I was expecting more along the lines of Kenny -115 and Huerta Even
At first people were dissing this card. Especially when Lesnar/Coleman was the first fight announced. I must say, that I am actually quite impressed with this card. A couple of the prelims are pretty weak, but we won’t see those on the PPV telecast anyways.
Of course the Main Event is going to be great. People on here, and hopefully GSP himself, have been sleeping on Fitch. A Fitch win is definitely not out of the question. Actually, as for the UFC, main event upsets usually happen in bunched, and we all know what just happened this past weekend…
Brock Lesnar vs Heath Herring is going to be a very interesting fight. However, I think that Heath is still too well rounded and too experienced of a fighter for Brock to be fighting. Yeah, he wants to fight the top guys, but if he just loses to them, what good is it? Coleman was the PERFECT matchup for Lesnar to get a win under his belt. The only time that Heath got dominated in the UFC was against Jake O’Brien, who was a great wrestler. So that is the one thing that Brock got going for him, well, that and the massive strength advangtage. I actually think that Jake O’Brien would have been the perfect replacement, for Coleman, to fight Lesnar.
Kenny Florian vs Roger Huerta: You know its GREAT matchup and fight when you can’t even predict a winner. This is for sure one of the toughest fights to pick a winner. I myself, have been leaning toward Florian the whole time so far. He has the experience against top competition and I think that Roger Huerta is a bit too wild. The fighters that Huerta have fought did not have the level of BJJ or muay Thai that Kenny has. Huerta is overly aggressive and constantly leaves small openings that top notch guys can take advantage of. I think that Kenny is going to win via submission. But if it goes 3 rounds, I would give the slight edge to Huerta. MAN, I can’t wait for this fight!
I am looking forward to Demian Maia dominating and hopefully bloodying up Jason MacDonald before submitting him. Is this fight on the main card?
Cheick Kongo vs Dan Evensen: I want to see where Cheick’s Kongo’s head is at after his loss to Herring. But I know NOTHING about Evenson. This is a fight to get Kongo back on track. Honestly, I would prefer to see Ben Saunders vs Jared Rollins over this fight. I expect that fight to be very entertaining.
I am looking forward to seeing Chris Wilson back in action after his spectacular performance against Fitch. Watching that fight, you would never think that he was a 6.5 - 1 underdog.
Luke Cummo vs Tamdan McCrory is a fight that MUST be shown. These two are going to set the house on fire. They both bring it everytime and have pretty similar everything, with the BJJ edge to Barncat. This fight would never make the main card, but I am rooting for it to be on after the mian event, or free on ufc.com as long as they don’t spoil the winner for us
Manny Gamburyan vs Rob Emerson: Should be one sided win by Manny, takedown…….
Andre Gusmao vs Tomasz Drwal: Nothing to say about this one, except that Drwal had a little bit of hype behind him when he made his UFC debut.
VM..Andre Gusmao..is a beast. did you see his IFL fianle win..he is brown belt under Renzo and hehas legit striking. He is a big LHW.. if you are goingto bet on this fight.. bet on Andre..IMO.
If GSP controls the fight with Fitch it should be fast-paced and exciting. If Fitch is in control it will be 25 minutes of soft-core man porn, and nobody wants to see that. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I think Herring gets too much credit for his experience. There’s a world of difference between fighting all the top guys and beating them. Mir beat Lesnar the only way Lesnar can be beaten, and Herring doesn’t have anything even close to Mir’s sub skills. Lesnar will put Herring on his back with a slam reminiscent of Hughes in his prime and pound him out with a 3XL fist.
Florian-Huerta has fight of the year written all over it. They are two of my favorite fighters, but I think Florian has the technical superiority to control the fight.
Who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to televise Manny “British Prostitute” Gamburyan against Rob “Tha OG From Tha OC” Emerson?
And finally Maia is going to give J-Mac a painful lesson in BJJ.
The reason Herring’s experience keeps getting brought up is because while Heath was in Japan fighting the likes of Fedor, Nogueria, Cro Cop, Evan Tanner, Vitor Belfort; Brock Lesnar was wrestling Stone Cold and The Rock. That is why experience is a big deal here. During the fight, Herring will never be in a position that he hasn’t been in already. However, if they stand for 5 seconds, that would already be something new to Brock.

Yes, but how much success did Herring actually have against any of them? I could perform open-heart surgery on 10 people, all of whom would die very quickly, and that would not somehow make me more prepared for an 11th attempt at open-heart surgery.

so? Herring isn’t 0-13, the guy has WINS too over some pretty decent competition as well. Brock is a newbie in MMA I think the experience factor will come in on pacing, not panicing in a bad situation, and having had the benefit of being in a crap load of fights and being able to study past tape and correct flaws. The fighter most likely to make a mistake first in this fight or not come up with/stick to a gameplan is Brock, but we’ll see I guess. Advantage: Herring; just my take on it.
I loved this card since they put on GSP vs Fitch and Huerta vs Florian. And when Coleman was replaced with Herring that just sweetened the deal. The best card since UFC 79.
i dont see how penn would actually beat gsp yeah penn was outta shape but gsp wasn’t there mentally, and wasn’t half as good as he is now..
i see that one being a gsp destroying penn like penn did to sherk.. and huerta is gonna get his face bashed in, so will herring, and i hope fitch wins but in all honesty who in the world can beat gsp right now other than himself? nobody
Mabey is beacuase I hate Gsp, But Penn, his Bjj is better, His stand-up is better, Gsp has the wrestling, And know Penns inshape so he can go all out, and keep up with gsp. Wow, Gsp Beat Serra For his title back, im so impressed.
Hughes is getting old, His wrestling did nothing to Alves and Alves is not on Gsp’s wrestling level at all , Serra is still wack, and it’s good, But you can’t tell me that it’s close to Bj’s. and looking at both there recent wins, I’d rather have a win agianst sherk then to Serra.
Your argument is stupid. Serra has better BJJ then GSP and how did that turn out? And I wouldn’t say Penn has better stand up then GSP. GSP’s stand up is more refined and fine tuned. Plus he will be able to use his reach to keep Penn at bay. And we haven’t seen Penn submit anyone off his back which is where he very well might end up against a monster wrestler like GSP.

I just love the idea of GSP reading all the news and comments about him and BJ Penn on New Years. Hopefully it will keep his head off of Fitch and then he’ll pull a rampage (all the tools but never shows up)
I keep saying, come September there is a brick in Canada with Jon Fitch writen on it…
Being out of shape is not an excuse. If that’s the case, Lutter has never lost because he has never showed up in shape. That makes absolutely no sense.
Thats amazing i never knew that Jon Fitch is 6′10, maybe the camera makes u look smaller or something. Hey i dont know maybe its an error on the website, but i’m going with the camera trick.
Chase, you really think thats going to be the outcome.
did you see how bad he killed Serra.
A Black Belt in BJJ. there is no way Gsp will get caught in any
submission, Like VM said, bj’s boxing is better, not the whole stand up game. Gsp is going to Run though BJ like a fast moving Train. Then you can tell me how good his cardio is.
Serra is a bjj blackbelt, But you can’t compare him to Penn. Serra is a joke, and the knockout he gave to GSP was a joke. If Gsp Destroy’s Penn, then I’ll say I was wrong.
Serra is a can, His Bjj is no were near where Penns is at, Serra is 1 demensional, Bj has skills everywhere, If Gsp acctually finishes the new penn, Then I’ll say I was wrong and give Gsp his credit.
Atleast he made it to a desicion when he was out of shape, Serra got Destroyed. Penn didn’t.

Serra also fought the current version of GSP. Penn lost to GSP over 2 years ago. GSP is vastly improved since then. Penn has to prove he can be in shape at 170, and he’s never proven it.
The data we have says Penn and Serra are very closely matched.
Look at the Sean Sherk fights. GSP destroyed Sherk on the feet, he absolutly mauled him. Penn was beating Sherk, but didn’t land any big shots up until the end.
We need to stop breaking down BJ and GSP, and look at this Fitch fight, we have yet to see the Fitch that Manhandled Thiago, and distroyed Burkman, and made Larson look like a fool, we have only seen subpare performances agaisnt Diego, Wilson, and Carnaro (if thats how you spell it ahaha)
Fitch is a beast, and GSP can’t get caught thinking what you guys are, and thats BJ vs GSP, because Fitch will beat him if GSP isnt focused
Fitch has no advantages in any area. GSP is bigger, faster stronger, his stand up is better, he’s the better wrestler, and his BJJ is about equal with fitch’s. GSP is just a little better then Fitch in all areas.
but which GSP is going to show up, the one that fought Matt Sera and Matt Hughes the first time or the one that came back and destroyed both… he’s just not a safe bet IMO …
You can tell you look up highly to BJ Benn lol.
you dis everyone that GSP has fought. so what if BJ looks better than he did. he lost some weight and dropped down a class. maybe trained on some boxing. its going to be the same outcome as their last fight. im Not about to say Gsp is going to destroy Penn but i bet the odds are 60/40 GSP/PENN.
Penn is an amazing fighter but i just dont think he’s as god like as you make him out to be!
Ro-J I saw your a french Canadian, thats Probbaly why your supporting GSP so much, Do you atleast give Benn a Chance when they rematch?

Oh for sure I do, I think it’s 60/40 pen has to put weight on, that chnges your speed, fluidity and of course “riddumm”.
I think BJ should have to fight someone else in that weight class before getting a tittle shot, and he would be more adapt to the ww class from it. ( I know he fought in it before, but loss to GSP and Hughes)
But in there first fight, Serra destroyed GSP, and in there 2nd fight, GSP won, and in Benns and his First fight, He beat serra, and in there 2nd, He would destroy him also. So No argument there.

BJ might get lucky with a knockout(i.e serra )
but thats about it. he will literally pound the shit outta PENN

Phil, I haven’t seen the IFL since they left MyNetwork, or whatever it was. It was channel 9 in my area.
Gusmao is the real deal, I have seen him fight a couple of times and have always been impressed
Drawal is getting choked out! Guarentee it!
You mean Jake “The Irish Wet Blanket” O’Brian?
Chase, he didn’t just beat him, he annihilated him, and Serra’s BJJ is pretty damn good.
Then there’s Hughes, the world class wrestler, who GSP took down at will and threw like a rag doll.
And in recent memory, Penn has big wins over a declining Jens Pulver and a non-juiced Sherk.
GSP’s resume is better.
He’s not 6′10 haha, it’s an error.
haha two inches taller than sylvia and nobody noticed. come on!
How can Serra be so bad when BJ couldn’t do anything to him when they fought, and won a controversial decision?
I guess that makes BJ Penn only controversially better than a “can”.
That just makes me laugh. You’re funny.
Look at the Sean Sherk fights. GSP destroyed Sherk on the feet, he absolutly mauled him. Penn was beating Sherk, but didn’t land any big shots up until the end.
This better not be an upset!
Thats what I want.
BINGO. Thanks for getting everyone back to the topic!
Fitch’s best chance at winning is to outwork GSP. However, I can’t think of anyone ever outwoking GSP.
Nah, I really would rather everyone keep talking up GSP and Penn; leave Fitch in the shadow till August 9th…
Has anyone seen the lines on Fitch’s odds yet?
Would you rather have a win over serra, Or sherk, as your latest win? and I just hate how people are saying Penn would get destroyed.
how about both. and bj and the list goes on and on.
Well atleast you giver him a chance, thats all i’m saying, i give gsp a chance, i just see Benn winning it like how you see GSp wining it.
Doesn’t really matter if Serra or Sherk is the most recent win. GSP destroyed Sherk much easier and much quicker than Penn did as well.
Ro J- that was a smart ass comment haha, But funny.
GSP destroyed Serra in there last fight, BJ has a close decision win over Serra. A lot of people even think he lost to Serra.
But in there first fight, Serra destroyed GSP, and in there 2nd fight, GSP won, and in Benns and his First fight, He beat serra, and in there 2nd, He would destroy him also. So No argument there.
serra never destroyed GSP. sure he won but didnt destroy him. and their second fight, GSP DESTROYED serra. GSP has beaten all the fighters Penn has lost too. so its not like you can say BJ will kill GSP.
BJ might get lucky with a knockout(i.e serra )
but thats about it. he will literally pound the shit outta PENN
I see a win with a SUB. and how can you say he didn’t get destroyed the first fight, What do you call it luck? It was luck, but a lucky destroy.
I think a first-round KO counts as destroying someone. I don’t care if it wouldn’t happen in another 100 fights, it happened once, and it counts.
well not really. and wasnt it was a TKO. didnt the ref stop it?But he got caught with a couple good punches. everyone has a bad day. and For GSP, he has only had 1 or 2. but the last three fights show his dominant performances and thats how he will fight against Penn and Fitch. now you try to tell me how he is going to lose if he puts on a fight like his last three. now i am not in love with him i just wanna back him up when all the BJ nut huggers are calling Penn GOD !
