kala kolohe hose

Icon Sport Middleweight Champion Kala “Kalohe” Hose (6-2) will be back in action against one-fight Alaskan Fighting Championships (AFC) veteran, Rolando Dominique (1-0) at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 2, according to MMAWeekly.com.

The bout, however, will be a non-title affair and be contested at a catchweight of 180 pounds.

Hose won the 185-pound gold in March after a thrilling fifth round knockout of Phil “The New York Badass” Baroni. The title was vacant after Robbie Lawler was unable to defend it on two separate occasions because of injuries.

The possibilities seemed endless for “Kalohe” after being crowned the champion of the Hawaii-based mixed martial arts promotion. In fact, MMA forums lit up with potential fantasy match-ups for the hard-hitting former heavyweight, but he lost a ton of that credibility when he was defeated by Robert “Bubba” McDaniel (11-4) on June 14 just 41 seconds into the first round of their non-title tilt.

ICON Sport immediately offered McDaniel a rematch for the title, but McDaniel declined, saying the belt belonged around the waist of a Hawaiian.

Hose is eager to get back into the win column and will have a good chance to do that against an inexperienced Rolondo Dominique. There isn’t much out there on Dominique other than his first round technical knockout win over Ali Isaako (1-1) at AFC 34 in April.

Each of the champ’s six victories have been by knockout. And this looks to be a fight set up for him to get his seventh. We’ll see how game Dominique is come August 2.

No other fights have been announced for the event at this time.

What a joke of a fight. When you need to put your champion in a non-title fight against an undersized fighter with one fight under his belt then………….. I don’t even know what to put. That is just ridiculous. How many times does this BUM need to lose before he isn’t the champ?

Any fighter with halfway decent wrestling would beat him. Throw in a little bit of BJJ skills and they would win in round 1.

CHASE, Kala Hose is simply a “stand and bang” fighter. As for the guy he’s fighting, not too many people outside of his immediate family have heard of him.

Hose is a very dangerous and powerful striker…And that’s about it.. I think he needs to leave his camp and go to the Mainland and recieve much more quality training and training partners.. One idea would be to go to Hilo and train with BJ to improve his BJJ and ground game. He has a lot of potential, but if he wants to become better he needs mainland training and exposure.

Why arent his fights title defenses? WTF is up with that? He has the title, so let the man defend it!

Its a Hawaiian promotion, thus wanting to keep a hawaiian it’s champ. They know if he fights anyone good he will lose the ‘coveted’ Icon title. Its kind of like what EliteXC is doing for Kimbo, and recently KJ Noons at their Hawaii show, except on a smaller scale. Big Deal if he beat Baroni, that says nothing. I know about 20 guys personaly that could beat Baroni and they dont even train MMA. And like John said, there is no point in being a champ if you dont defend your title.

yeah its pretty Corny! Especially since title fights are the ony way of seeing 5 rounders. Not defending the title just means less five round fights. I like the guy, he is a hard nosed, power hitter, but defend your title already, and if you cant defend it successfully, u dont deserve it anyway!

How is it like what they are doing with Kimbo???? Kimbo is not the champion, and he is not Hawaiian.

You make zero sense and are just trying to find a way to hate on Elite XC so you can tell everyone to boycott it.

I would bet you my life savings that you do not know 10 people that can beat up Phil Baroni that are his weight or less. GURANTEED.

Well I dont want to take your $500 life savings, I do know a lot of guys that probably beat the shit out of Baroni, no doubt. Ill take that bet when your life savings bankroll gets up to $1500, Maybe. And what I was refering to with Kimbo is that they shelter him. I know Kimbo isn’t Hawaiian you goof, and I know he isnt a champ, but Elite XC does shelter him. Its no secret I dont like Elite XC because it is a flat out joke and crap promotion, But I dont have to find ways to hate on Elite XC. It does a good job itself of finding ways for people to hate on it. You’re smarter than that I hope.

hose/baroni was a freaken brawl! baroni dropped hose in the 1st round and was actually foot stomping his HEAD!! hose came back in the later rounds and TKOd baroni in the 5th with a right hook BODY SHOT that tipped baroni over. basicly it was just a good ol fashion bar fight.

I really dont think its complimenting to ones self to go the distance with Baroni. Especially if you are real championship calibur.

another honorable mention. when baroni was on his back, he upkicked hose’s face. it looked like it pisssssed hose off and he immediately answered wit a BOMMMMB windmill right!… of course its not as exciting to read, but i liked it.
